European Fan Faire cancelled at last minute

Were you planning on going to the Fan Faire in Paris? Well, I hope you bought cancellation insurance or you may find yourself spending a lot of money for nothing. Personally, I think this is a pretty lousy thing to do to the fans who have pre-booked air, train and ferry fair, hotels, etc., taken off vacation time, and made plans to meet friends. C'est la vie. Did you expect otherwise? Here's Sony's official announcement without the advertisements: Sony Online Entertainment and Ubi Soft today announced the postponement of the European Fan Faire. Our European community of EverQuest® players has seen much growth in the past year and we are excited about all of our initiatives in this market and beyond. While we regret the delay in bringing what has been an incredibly successful and one-of-kind event in the U.S., we know that all of our international initiatives will enhance the player experience, increase our international fan base, and lead us overseas in the coming months. We want to thank all of the fans who had planned to participate in this inaugural event and will be sending a full refund in addition to a special gift from our Fan Faire team. While we are disappointed that we cannot meet you next month, we hope that our presence in Europe continues to grow. We will be able to better serve you by postponing this event to a more suitable time and place for everyone. We apologize for any inconvenience. Can you really tell where people come from?

Paris is a great city and there is nothing wrong with the French. There is at least one French or mainly French guild on the main server I play. I've been to a different European city for a week each year and from what I've seen they would all be as sutable as each other for a Fan Fair. Saying all of that, most of the EQ players I've met are actually American and the rest (apart from one or two) I could not have told that English was not their first language if the subject of nationality hadn't come up. Incidantally it was the French players who's nationality was most noticable as they will use French in game to talk to each other, instead of switching to English which is as close to a universal language as we have these days. I just regret to say that my French is nowhere near as good as their English.
grow up and leave paris alone

I think you people that are Parish bashing probably have never left your hometown in your entire life. What makes it any worse than, say New York? Yuk.

This isnt about Paris this is about Sony's bad planning and inability to sell tickets because they didnt take measures mentioned in another post, trying to arrange package deals, etc.

Oh well I was waiting for it to come back to America anyway, as much as I'd love to see France I already sacrifice income to play time as it is, Im broke hahaha

hmm,,

I beleive it would be far better attended

It was a good idea just cost too much. It seams that the Americans are more willing to pay for events. The cost of travel and somewhere to stay are high too expecially for places like Paris. I'd have only gone to this if I was going to be in the city anyway. Maybe if there was some sort of package deal arranged eg hotel at a special cheap rate included in the price somewhere close to the event and maybe if you travel with a certain company you get cheaper rates as well. This is an option which is practical as there would be bulk bookings made by Sony which they would be selling on so they would recive the discount for group deals which could then be passed on to us. What does everyone think ?

BTW an example of this is a trip to london I made with a corse I was enrolled on last year. The entire trip cost £75. The hotel showed that it's cheapest standard price was £60 per person per night. The £75 included travel by coach and breakfast and we stayed for 2 nights.
Why Paris

It's easy to say why they choosed Paris :

as you all know Paris is the most visited city in the world (you didn't know ? hehe), and mostly by Americans.

Guess these Americans are not EQ fans, here's the problem. :)

Paris? Eh! I don't want to go there... Vienna or Salzburg would have been a better place, or Munich, or even Verona with it's Arena and Castle. Much better places to hold it than Paris. That city seem too expensive anyways. About the only good thing there is the metro system.
Anyone surprised?
# Aug 30 2001 at 3:08 PM Rating: Decent
Can't say this surprises me.
I reckon about 10 people signed up.
Why?
Paris.
Sorry you Frenchies, but people do not like going to France.
I actually spoke to some Spanish friends and they said they'd go to any European city except if it's in France. (This was before it was announced.)
Hey presto, it was Paris.
Well. For me to get there for 2 days (staying overnight) would have cost about $450 including flights, hotel, transfers, train fare to and from venue...
Not a chance. I can fly to the US for that kind of money and not just for 2 days either.

my opinion they should make it cheaper, and in at least 3 europian towns, in london, paris and berlin or munich or vienna (that it will be avaiable also for ppl who are playing at east europe). me, im from czech republic, would never get so much money for 1 day event. but i would like to participate on one.
and to all who says it just should take part in usa, please dont forget, that except usa, there are other countries, with their citizens, and they should be treatet with the same respect like us-citizens (players).
till now i dont see, that someone cares of us, even GM events takes place at times, when i mostly europian players just cant play while too late.

What do you expect?

Who the F*&K wants to go to Paris? I live in London and I cant be bothered to go at a cost of £40 for a train. Its damp and full of french people.

Hold it somewhere interesting like Amsterdam

This is off-subject.

But why do so many ex-equers constantly come to EQ sites and state how glad they are they left?

If your so ecstatic don't come back here.
RE: odd

Don't you see? The people still like the game. When they constantly visit EQ sites, they must still thirst for the game. I can't think of any other reason besides that they are trying to act cool, but inside their a crying little baby. When you get 3 EQ Accounts banned like the person below [not the anonymous who started the "odd" topic], you must be:
A.)An idiot
B.)You got caught cheating by telling everyone you WERE cheating.
C.)You began swearing to GMs thinking that everyone around you would be like "Cool man! You're a hard-***!" But meanwhile, when the GM threatens to ban their account, they start whining like a little baby.
D.)All of the above

I should have known better.

Seeing as they value overseas customers this much
Canceling my 3 accounts!
Just a drop in the ocean?.. But even a butterfly's flapping wings can start a tidal wave

Iv never seen company with such a good product inconvenience and exploit its customers
Repeatedly and with no remorse. And still have the arrogance to be vague about their logic and reasoning.

Anyone else notice how there is less and less people on during weeknights ?
Hmmm where's that ebay bookmark. (can they really stop you? I think not)
Then again. Like i give a flying F....

Which parallel universe were you playing in?

The servers are busier than I have seen them for at least 12 months by the time I call it a night and log out, and I'm not even playing at prime time.

Seems to me that well over 2,000 people per server is more than busy enough.
this is why...

This is a prime reason why I don't play EQ anymore... Too many red hot pokers up the backside.
