Become a part of EverQuest's future! We'll be launching a new server in the coming months and Zatozia will be looking for your input into what it should be named. Keep checking http://eqplayers.station.sony.com/ to find out how to choose your favorite.

To help make this transition as smooth as possible, we will be offering one free server transfer to all affected characters for seven days after your character is moved to the new server as a result of the server merge. Please see below for additional details. We will also be offering reduced rates on several customer service items in the in-game Marketplace between June 22nd and July 6th, 2010. These will include the following:

  • Character Transfers
    • New Rate During Transition Period (June 29th - July 6th only): 1000 SC
  • Potion of Amnesia (character name change)
    • New Rate During Transition Period: 500 SC
  • Potion of Disgenderment (gender change)
    • New Rate During Transition Period: 500 SC
  • Witness Protection Pack (character name and gender change)
    • New Rate During Transition Period: 700 SC
  • Transmogrification Scroll (race change)
    • New Rate During Transition Period: 1500 SC

Character Transfer Tokens are subject to usage rules available in the Marketplace description.

We hope that these changes will provide players with an even more enjoyable EQ experience.

Character Transfers
The next time you log into game once your character has been moved to the new server as a result of the server merge, you will be prompted to transfer servers. If you choose to defer the transfer at that time, you can access the transfer again by typing "/servertransfer" into your in-game window but please note that this service will only be available for the 7-day period following the server merge.

Character Names
Priority for character names will be based on the date the character was first created. Subsequent players with the same name will have an "x" appended to their name until a unique name can be determined. The same process will be applied to guild names. Players that receive an "X" appended to their Character Names can change it by typing the "/changename" command into their chat window. Guilds that wish to change their names will need to use the "/petition" command.

Inactive Characters
Accounts with characters below level 10 that have been inactive for six months or more will be purged from the EQ system.

Accounts with More Than Eight Characters
Accounts with characters on the merging servers will have their character names alphabetized, and only the first eight listed will be accessible until characters are deleted to make room. Any characters past the first 8 are not deleted, they are simply inaccessible until one of the first 8 is deleted to make room.

Shared Banks
If a player's account has characters on both servers, the most recently updated bank will have priority unless it is empty. Players must empty out the shared bank they don't want to keep before the merge. If players wind up with the wrong shared bank (they didn't empty out the other one in time, etc.) they can use "/petition" to have the other shared bank copied over.

UI and Character Settings
All character UI and character settings will need to be reset.

Corpses
All corpses will be sent to Shadowrest.

EQ players
Player information will be updated to reflect new names/guilds/servers.

Artifacts
New servers will allow two of the same artifacts.

Hi folks,

For those of you who don't know how to rename your character files, or know what files to rename, I put together a free utility to do this, as well as perform other tasks such as backing up/restoring your character data, ui files, audio triggers, etc., installing maps and so on.

If interested, you can view screen shots, and download the app at the following link:

ok I have the kind of sony station account that allows me to have 10 chars on a server. If I have 10 chars on one server and it is merging with another server that has 0 on it, does that mean I will automatically lose two chars if they are only allowing 8 now? or does that not pertain to the kind of account I have?
wake up

I agree that lowering the cost is not an answer. I mean honestly, you have to have a pretty decent computer to run EQ, if you can afford that, you can afford the subscription.

The reason why guilds are having such a hard time keeping numbers is the nonsense that many guilds employ, ie requirements. I know you dont want beginners in your guild always, but i See spam eveyday "Guild XXX recruiting, 85 with xxx AA points, Tier 5 flagged, etc etc."

Most people, unless they are already in a guild cant get half the requirements and the existing guilds do not backflag to get the other members up to speed, theyre too busy farming higher levels.

The game has gotten to easy, newer players can go from 0-70 in a few days. I took a rogue from 0-70 in less than a week. It took me over 2 years to do that with my first lvl 70 character. Once you get high end, youre blocked due to the above scenario.

MAKE THE GAME CHALLENGING AGAIN!!!

So... Sony is merging servers and then making a new server, I guess that makes sense......

Sony needs to open 50/51 server for transfers and merge it too.

Seems to me the best way is to lower prices and leave merges be because all they seem to do is merge and then make more server names. What is the point?
Over Due

This was way over due! With server population so low and half the accounts that are active being a 2nd (3rd 4th 5th or 6th) of someones and so many one man guilds, as well as groups being (sadly) dependant on T5 mercs to fill needed gaps (that are seriously coming short for Underfoot difficultly). This merger is music to the ears of most of us! Especially those of us who are guild leaders and struggling with numbers. That goes for guilds, including the top guilds on servers. I'm glad they finally have taken this step to help our game play be more enjoyable.

I agree this was over due, but in a different way.

#1. EQ has a lack of members due to the current price of monthly subscription. The economy still has high unemployment all around the world. If you want to sell something in large quantities, then lower the cost. This "server merger" will continue to happen and EQ population will continue to dwnedle until they lower the monthly subscription..

#2. Sony came out with SoD & mercenaries for one reason and that was people like myself that rarely group still have the ability to group but with out having to babysit others that AFK constantly, dont know how to play, or are there to mooch off the group for their own selfish needs, then they move on; same thing happens with guilds.

#3. I enjoy a lessor population on servers as well as many others because I dont like being trained, listening to peeps argue / fight over "boo hoo" you took my camp; or certain guilds or 1 player boxing 5 others claiming an entire zone, etc...

#4. Some people are sick of working hard to acomplish caping a charachter only just before they do yet another expasnion has came out and they dont have the option to cap a charachter class and say "hey that was fun now its time to make a new race class and try that out to the end".. Sony needs to have a couple server's with expansion caps on them. It would not only be fun but once your done you can either go back to a normal server or start over again.

Just some thoughts but idea's that would once again boost EQ membership, mainly LOWERING the monthly cost. If you see it hit $19.99 you will either see the population decrease by 1/2 or more then that will be the end of EQ..

I honestly doubt lowering the costs would do anything positive to EQ. The game is 11 years old - unless it's for free I doubt any old players would return or new ones would join, not with all those other MMORPGs out there.

IMO all that lowering prices would do is preventing current players to leave.
