Underfoot: Unfolding the Lore - Volska's Husk

The final part in Underfoot's Unfolding the Lore series centers around Volska's Husk:

Volska's Husk

Volska's Husk is the carcass of a slain Greken. The Greken are a race of massive serpents that live in the lava of Underfoot. They are shepherds of the magma, which is the life blood of Norrath. These serpents exist to herd magma to where it is needed within the Underfoot, on Norrath, and in other realms. The Cliknar killed Volska to test their skills of war and for entertainment. The great serpent knew nothing of war and was confused by the pain. Now that the Greken are aware of what other creatures might do to them, they avoid other races of any sort. The massive adults simply remain in the deepest lava rivers. The young are not so lucky and have been forced to learn to defend themselves.

What remains of Volska is a shell of hardened lava with various cavities inside. An ecosystem of caverns and growth can be found inside the shell and areas surrounding it. Obsidian ribs hold up the stone corpse. Lava has seeped into the carcass, and creatures use fallen chunks of stone hide as bridges over these burning rivers. The creature's massive heart can be found near the center of the corpse cave, still glowing with the heat and magic that Volska possessed while alive.

Groups of Underfoot citizens have congregated within the husk, many of them unsure of their loyalties. These citizens worry that Brell has abandoned them, but are unwilling to accept the bizarre Faith of Self. But the husk is controlled by the Autarchians. The Autarchians are rebels who have turned to the Faith of Self and they are living here to get away from those who do not and to keep control of the undecided lest they get confused and return to their normal way of life and worship of Brell. No longer happy with simply carrying out the wishes of Brell or wandering aimlessly in the Underfoot, these Autarchs have chosen to follow another master.

Sporali that have wandered into the Underfoot have also taken to dwelling within the husk. These fungi flourish in areas of unimaginable heat in the body of the Greken.
