Tack Shieldson says 'Ahhh, worthy o' Brell hisself or so they say. Ye know when I was just a pup, back before the exodus, me uncle used te talk about stompin' trolls and then sitting back with a Boot Beer te celebrate the day's victory. I, ummm, really would be able te get in touch with me heritage were I able to sample some o' that fine stout. Ye'd be a true friend to the Validus Custodus fer helpin' us out friend. My thanks to ye in advance.

Tack Shieldson gingerly takes the boot from you, handling it as though it were a fine porcelain. With a look of thanks to you he slowly lifts it to his lips and suddenly tips it back to empty it in one gulp, frothing his beard in the process. 'Yar! That's the ticket! Reward is experience and faction. For instance a hand-in of 550 might take one from "just scowling" through threatening and into dubious with Magus. But be warned: you will slip an equivalent amount with Nathyn. ie. from aimiable down to dubious.

Drenic Garrison says 'The Magus Conlegium are assisting with some studies on the physiology of the Vampyres of the Coterie of the Eternal Night and are in need of [ash and blood] samples. Maralicis Dilsm our Governor of Health is assisting in research on [counteragents] to the venom and diseases native to Luclin. Finally, there have been reports from the agents of Erikal Wolfeye that there is a civilization of [snake people] that live on the furthest reaches of the light side of Luclin in a region devoid of atmosphere.'

You say, 'What counteragents?'

Drenic Garrison says 'Since our Empires first arrival on Luclin a citizen or in some cases several citizens occasionally fall victim to terrible diseases and toxins. The effects on our people were devastating at first but over the years we have become more accustomed to life on this moon. Still, if we were able to eradicate these diseases and poisons entirely many lives would be saved. The damp subterranean Fungus Grove and Paludal caverns are among the most infested areas. If you brave those dank passageways and return with a Muck Beetle Mandible, Black Fungal Fiend Spores, Green Fungal Fiend Spores, and a Grimfang Poison Sack I will gladly take them to the researchers for further study and experimentation.'

Corporal Donfeld says 'Oh yes, hello there. I am sorry to be so short, but Governor Erikal had asked me to investigate the Recuso and... well, the going has been slow as of yet.'

You say, 'What about the Recuso?'

Corporal Donfeld says 'The Recuso are a delitescent people that wander the lands outside Sanctus Seru. They do not have the most open society, so gathering information on them has been tricky. We have reason to believe that they are quite hostile towards Seru and therefore our potential allies- the enemy of my enemy is my friend and all of that. To learn more about them, it was decided we send someone in to try to blend into their society, but he is more than a week past due checking in and we can spare no one to go after him.'

Corporal Donfeld says 'It is quite the journey, are you sure that you are up for it? Your best bet would be to start the search in Marus Seru where the Recuso can be found. Legionnaire Marais had a lead in Shadowhaven as well, but I do not believe it had gotten him anywhere yet. You will need to give him this, he has the other half and will recognize it as a signal that you were sent directly by me. Oh, and let me give you a file to hold your evidence in, do you have room for it, my friend?'

He hands you a Torn Half of a Note. The text is fragmentary and refers to Katta and contains no names.

You say, 'I have room for the file.'

Corporal Donfeld says 'Here, this should do, there may be some extra space in there when you are done. Just put all the evidence you find in it and get it back to me as soon as you can. Best of luck to you, and my thanks as well.'

He hands you a Recuso Case File container.

Corporal Donfeld says 'I know that to most it seems as though we do not even pay attention to each other anymore, but the silent war between Seru and Katta has never really subsided.'

Find Legionnaire Marais in Marus Seru around 200, 300.

You say, 'Hail, Legionnaire Marais'

Legionnaire Marais looks up at you wearily, 'Corporal Donfeld?'

Give him the Torn Half of a Note.

Legionnaire Marais shows relief in his eyes, 'I knew someone would come if I... just held out... long enough... Take these... be careful... ' And with that, Marais allows himself to finally die.

You are given 2 Marais' Notes ~ upon reading them they talk of killing Regan Ellar for Rifkin.

Find Regan Ellar in Sanctus Seru. She spawns in the tavern to the left of the zone and then wanders.

After you kill her, loot a Promise Ring (identifies as "for those truly in love.").

Find Rifkin in Shadow Haven, directly straight of the bazaar zone.

Rifkin glowers at you dubiously as though wondering what it is your tombstone might say.

You say, 'Marais sent me.'

Rifkin's head snaps in your direction, 'Do you have my ring? No? Then quit your yammering!'

Hand him the Promise Ring.

Rifkin says 'Aye, this is it, did you kill her? Well anyway, here, I really didn't want this anymore- I was hoping some fool would give me something of value for it. Thanks.'

You say, 'What grave robbers?'

Yurddle the Caretaker says 'It is unfortunate that there are so many disrespectful people that would rob the graves of the dead. The citizens of Katta Castellum do not commit such crimes against their ancestors but thieves from Shadow Haven, greedy Vampyres, and even members of the traitorous Inquisition seeking old combine relics have been caught digging up the dead. I have [lists of belongings] that have been stolen, it would please the spirits of Katta Castellum greatly if these items are returned.'

You say, 'Tell me about this list of belongings'

Yurddle the Caretaker says 'Here are some lists of items that have been stolen from the crypts of the mausoleum in the past. You may bring each crypts set of four missing items to me separately. It is not necessary to find all three sets of items before returning but any set you do return must be complete to please the spirits. Perhaps you should ask around the shops in the other cities of Luclin if the merchants there have seen the missing items.'

In Marus Seru, kill recuso smugglers until you loot an Aeridia Family Signet Ring.

Find Bertol Flagerty in the Twilight Sea (location -625, -1015, -11). Kill him and loot a Tarnished Copper Runed Wand.

Find Rolktim Cogtop in Fungus Grove (location -1250, -635, -277 -- behind Ebben's tavern). Kill him and loot the Faded Silver Embroidered Robe.

Find Mark Blotter in Shadow Haven (findable with the Find feature, CTRL+F -- location 1185, -295, -45).

Find Maricella Slithra in the Paludal Caverns (location -1425, +1375 -- just outside the camp with Yelloweyes, close to Shadow Haven). She has a place holder. Spawn time is approximately 13 minutes and she doesn't drop the item every time. Loot an Ancient Ornate Combine Dagger from her corpse.

Find Ebben Quickblade in Fungus Grove (location -1165, -575, -275).

Toktonn Geerlok says 'Yes, it is a marvelous luminescent ore that when properly smelted has properties similar to the finest of steels, and sometimes even better. Depending on the purity of the ore of course. The Tenebrous Mountains are rich with very pure acrylia veins but unfortunately the Grimlings have overrun the mines and are not willing to allow others to mine the ore. Instead they horde it for their tribes to the south. I am permitted by the Validus Custodus to reward those seeking to cleanse the mines of the Grimlings. More precisely to pay a reward for every four grimling mining picks presented to me.

Bring him four Sturdy Grimling Mining Picks. Found on grimling orefinders, geomancers, laborers, and foremen in the mines of Tenebrous Mountains. Seemed to be an uncommon drop.

If I can figure out what makes it tick, it'd sure be a boon to some o' that crazy engineering the gnomes're always doing. This sample is running out though, and it ain't easy to come by what with the durned grimlings hogging the mines, I'd sure appreciate it if someone were to bring me some more. Careful though, it's deceptively heavy.'

Rakshasa Skulls (Normal): READ THIS QUEST CAREFULLY BEFORE YOU DO IT

This quest can NOT be done solo, some of the camps can be but, the turn in battles are too much for a single player.You will need a single group of at least 4 to complete this quest.The Shield is NOT No Drop. The quest can be MQed.

Go to Katta Castellum. Go up to the top of the castle to the main building and walk out on to the red carpet on the first floor turn left and go to Loc (neg 234, pos 161)last door on your right, you will find a NPC named Roshawna Rhorer.



You say 'Hail, Roshawna Rhorer'

Roshawna Rhorer says, 'A pleasure to speak with you! You appear to be a foreigner to Katta Castellum as well. I hope your reasons for visiting this noble city are more leisurely than my own. In addition to my normal duties as a Shar Vahl Emissary to Katta Castellum there is the issue of the [Tormented Vah Shir] in Tenebrous Mountains that must be dealt with.'

You say, 'What tormented Vah Shir?'

Roshawna Rhorer says, 'Recently the skeletons of Vah Shir have been spotted wandering the Tenebrous Mountains ferociously and blindly attacking the living.'

There are legends among my people that speak of Vah Shir warriors that were murdered dishonorably in their sleep by a traitor allied with [dark spirits]. The spirits of these murdered warriors become trapped in their decaying mortal shells for often many years before they are driven mad by the despair, rage, and torturous experience.

When this negative spirit energy becomes strong enough the corpses rise and attempt to slaughter all that crosses their path in their state of eternal rage. Spirits tormented in such a manner must be assisted so that they may finally find peace in death. Will you [help the souls]find peace?'

You say, 'What dark spirits?'

Roshawna Rhorer says, 'Not all spirits that can be called upon by those who are in touch with the spirit realms are of good intentions.

There are spirits who seek to destroy and corrupt.These dark spirits are best avoided and kept from manifesting their influence on the mortal realms.Unfortunately the foolish or the weak willed are tempted by their promises of power.

Most who deal with the dark spirits are shortly driven mad by the spirits influencer destroyed by the very powers they were promised.

There are tales however of powerful shaman capable of harnessing and controlling the dark spirits and their evil powers of corruption. These wicked traitors to the Vah Shir teachings are called [Rakshasa].'

You say, 'Who Rakshasa?'

Roshawna Rhorer says, 'Like I said the Rakshasa are spoken of only in old tales. Whether they truly existed or not can not be proven for sure and the elder spiritualist insist they are nothing more than creatures of fiction.

If there truly is a Rakshasa alive today it would be a powerful creature indeed.

They are said to no longer have a physical body of their own, having traded it to a powerful evil spirit so that it may enter the mortal realm in exchange for dark gifts.
Because the Rakshasa no longer has a physical body of its own it must take the forms of other creatures and can not be destroyed with conventional weapons.'

You say, 'I will help the souls'

Roshawna Rhorer says, 'The only way for a tormented undead Vah Shir to be put to rest is to destroy its body and take its skull to Shar Vahl where our spiritualists can perform a ritual to cleanse and free the imprisoned spirit.

Fill this chest with skulls and return it to me and I will make the preparations for it to be sent to Shar Vahl.

The spiritualists there have just recently received word of the situation and will be prepared to perform the proper rituals when the time comes.'

  • Collect 8 Tormented Vah Shir Skulls. 0/8 Tenebrous Mountains

    Head to the Tenebrous Mountains and look for A Tormented Vah Shir he's waiting for you.



    Skulls: Just turn right when you leave the Katta zone line and go to Loc (neg1265, pos 1774) (Yes clerics you can use sense undead to target them) also the LOC given is a spawn area but all in that area from the back of the tree by the rocks to just in front where the hill starts to slop they can spawn so keep your eyes open. The second spawn area is at pos 303, neg 85.

    Spawn times on the PH are every 6 min. The Mobs do roam so if you miss the pop just wait 30 min and it will reset.

    The 1st Camp is a nice safe camp, no roamers only problem is that sometimes the mobs get stuck in the wall or the tree that is close by and they will despawn. (This was /petitioned and /bug)

    The 2nd Camp is not so nice, it's out toward the middle of the zone and seems to be the Grand Central Station of the place, you will get lots of green agro at this camp, but if the other one is camped it beats not doing the quest at all.

    There are 3 Placeholders at camp 1 that I have seen, they are these stooges here:



    Yes you get a faction hit for killing the nice Grol Baku, but it's ok though it's not like they know where you live.

  • Combine the 8 skulls in Runed Iron Bound Chest.

    When you combine the skulls it turns the container into Sealed Runed Iron Bound Chest.

  • Return Sealed Runed Iron Bound Chest to Roshwana in Katta.



    (The skulls are so cute all in a row, makes you just want to keep them doesn't it, quote the raven never more)

    Roshawna Rhorer purrs an incantation and waves her claws back and forth over the chest.

    The runes inscribed on the chest and iron bands begin to softly glow with a golden light.

    Roshawna Rhorer says, 'You have done a great service for these poor souls.
    I have sent for a courier to come for the chest of skulls but he is quite late in his arrival.

    I will keep it safe until the courier arrives.'

    A Vah Shir courier tucks the crate of skulls under his arm and nods to Roshawna. Suddenly the courier begins to shake, his fur stands on end, and his eyes glaze over expressionlessly.

    The courier runs for the gates of Katta Castellum with an other worldly howl echoing in his wake.

    Roshawna Rhorer says, 'Stop him! Stop the courier!
    An evil spirit has possessed him!
    He must not escape with those skulls!
    Catch him and bring back that crate of skulls!'

    *READ THIS CAREFULLY*

    At the time of writing this walk through, I found a bug in this part of the quest(Shocking isn't it) you MUST kill the courier in the great hall, the one you first walk in to when you enter the castle with the red carpet down the center and the stair way going up, if you do not you will only get 7 out of the 8 reanimated Vah Shir and you will have to destroy your stuff and start the quest over again.(Been there done that thank you very much)

  • Kill the Vah Shir Courier.

    A Vah Shir courier has been slain.

    A Vah Shir Courier's corpse slams the crate of skulls against the ground with unnatural force as he falls jarring it open.

    With his dying breath the possessed courier mutters a dark incantation and the skulls burst from the chest sprouting new skeletal forms.



    (At this point 8 Reanimated Vah Shir's will spawn, you have to kill them, you will need a group for this or at least a melee with a chanter or bard and a healer, the Skellys con light blue to level 56.)

  • Loot 8 Vah Shir Skull's from their corpses

  • Combine the skulls in the chest and hand them back to Roshawna Rhorer.



    Roshawna Rhorer says, 'It appears this situation is much more dire than we had first presumed. It would be unsafe to send this crate within the walls of Shar Vahl should another innocent be possessed and the tormented Vah Shir be resurrected once more.'

He is easy to find once you zone over from Hollowshade Moor as you exit the cave to your right just down the hill is a VahShir Outpost, just go in the gate and turn to your left he's standing by a big rock at the foot of the hill.

    Spiritist Roleko says, 'Greetings Traveler. If it is rest you seek then I'm sure you may rest safely within the walls of this outpost. As the sentries keep watch for physical danger I commune with the spirits of this territory to watch for less noticeable threats.'

    Spiritist Roleko says, 'It was wise of Roshawna to send you to me instead of risk bringing something so tainted by the dark spirits within the walls of Shar Vahl.

    Scribe Cholsa says, 'So it seems there is more truth to the legends of the Rakshasa than is commonly believed.
    I recall much of the tales of the wicked shaman who sold their souls and bodies to the dark spirits.
    There is a ritual that must be performed to force the Rakshasa to fully materialize in our realm so that it may be slain.

    I will write down the instructions for the ritual but the [components] I'm afraid may be difficult to obtain.'

    If you manage to procure these items please take them with the instructions I have provided to Spiritualist Roleko at the Grimling Forest Outpost.

    The Rakshasa shall be summoned and slain there away from the citizens of Shar Vahl.'

    Ok now we are off to find 3 more items, it does not matter what order you do them.

    The Amulet of Golden Rays come from deep in the Scarlet Desert, at Loc (pos 570, neg 740), it is a rare spawn off of the Burning Priest he has a PH every 32 minutes but the upside here is that the Revenants are awesome exp. You can not kite these mobs, your going to have to get melee here for this. (The Burning Priest is a Cleric he will Complete Heal)



    Black Flame Charcoal comes from the Umbrous Toilers, it is a rare drop. The best place I have found to camp these guys are at Loc (pos 1680, neg967) in Maidens Eye.



    (Yes I see that the Charcoal is LORE and stackable)

    Thought Leech Brain from a Thought Leech in the Thought Leech Cave in Mons Letalis, a rare drop. The LOC for the Thought Leech cave is Loc (neg 1029,pos 36). Mobs in here are light blue to level 56 and I had no problem soloing them with my ranger.

  • Turn in Thought Leech Brain, Black Flame Charcoal, Amulet of Golden Rays and Rakshasa Materialization Ritual to Spiritist Roleko. Grimling Forest

    Scribe Cholsa prepares the ritual components according to the ritual instructions.

    Spiritist Roleko says, 'I will need to maintain my concentration to keep the Rakshasa from escaping back into the spirit realm.
    If you kill him while he is materialized he will be slain and his body will remain material.
    Bring me the head of the Rakshasa when he is slain.'

It is a shame that we are not capable of supplying the nutrients necessary to maintain flora from the light side of Luclin. If you wish to assist in the maintenance of the garden I have some [tasks] you may be helpful in completing.'

    You say, 'What tasks?'

    Tobala Honeyjar says 'I am in need of ingredients to create more [fertilizer] and in need of a competent forager to gather some [rare plants] for me.'

    Tobala Honeyjar says 'I am seeking seeds and plants that I may extract the seeds from that are native to the light side of Luclin so that I am prepared should the Illuminarium Industria succeed in constructing a lantern that will provide the plants with the nutrients they need to survive here on the dark side. It would be a tremendous help if you could bring me a Twilight Orchid, Dawnflower Seeds, a Red Sands Cactus, and a Letalis Zenith Vine.'

    Tilbok Furrunner reads through the report, hands you a small satchel then starts to explain, 'Finally news from Euzan. I knew that it would take a long time to get planted within Seru, but I still worried about their mission constantly. This report shows that you have earned trust from Euzan, so I in turn will show the same trust. Euzan and Torsten were placed in the city for information. They are deep undercover and risk their life everyday. Every person in that city is ingrained with the [purpose] of either destroying Katta or converting his people.'

    From here, go back to Sanctus Seru and proceed to kill...

There are other matters of defense as well however that you may be of [assistance] in dealing with.'

    You say, 'What assistance?'

    Saumeem Unja says 'Ah... I'm glad that you have asked. There is a special
    matter that may benefit from your skills as an adventurer. I would love to
    explain the matter in full detail, but I'm afraid that I am not your best source of information at this juncture. The matter was delegated to Kellari Autumnfall. Seek her out and see if she requires your assistance. She is looking into a matter of grave importance. Tell her that I sent you, should she ask. Be well and good luck with it.'

    Kellari is on the 3rd floor of the caster building. This is the building shaped like an X with circles at each end. To get to the upper floors, click the symbol mounted on the wall.

    Kellari Autumnfall says 'Most of the attacks have come from the area around the cemetery. We have noticed that the undead there have all been covered in what appears to be the same set of arcane symbols. I will need a complete set of those symbols to progress any further in my research. Oddly enough, the last set that I had was removed from my quarters without my authorization. Just make sure this set is completely legible. The skin samples must not be damaged. Do you think you can handle this matter?'

    Kellari Autumnfall says 'Please, place the skin samples in the separate trays within this box and return it to me. Maybe, I'll have an idea of what to do from there by the time you're done. Thank you for your assistance. Good hunting.'

    Receive a "10 Tray Specimen Kit". Head to the graveyard; as you run around, you'll get emotes and occasionally spawn an undead creature. Every kill will randomly drop one of the ten skins you need. Collect one of each and put them in the box. The ten you need are:

I will go and notify the authorities. Take her back to Governor Unja, if you capture her before help arrives. Good luck!'

    Colain Jasior will spawn somewhere to the northeast of you and run towards the Coterie outposts further to the northeast. A tracker will likely make this step easier, although I was able to intercept her without one. Find and kill her, then collect "Colain's Head". Return with this to Saumeem Umja (not Kellari Autumnfall).

    Saumeem Unja says 'It is very unfortunate that you had to be exposed to such corruption. Please, do not consider what you have seen during this situation to be the standard for our community. This was a rare occurrence. This situation did however allow you to prove yourself to us. We thank you for your bravery and selfless action in this matter. When you have done so seek out Elnerick Augustleaf, and tell him that you serve Katta. His powers over the arcane are great and I believe he can form the shards into a single master key. Once you have received the Arx Key, place the seal given to you by Elnerick and your Runed earring in this jewel box and give it to me. I eagerly await your return.'

The shards begin to move across the table towards each other until they fuse into one. 'I have focused each shard into one single key. The magic holding it together is strong but the enchantment will fade over time. You will must use it wisely for it will deteriorate with use. Lcea has requested I give you this seal to prove your service to this city. Take the seal and the Arx Key, I hope that you can accomplish what you are about to be asked. Then there is the issue of the [acrylia mines] in the Tenebrous Mountains.'

    You say, 'What acrylia mines?'

    Rallic Aristos says 'The Tenebrous Mountains are rich with veins of the valuable acrylia ore. Unfortunately the mines were dug and controlled by a tribe of savage grimlings from the forests to the south. Negotiations have been attempted with the grimlings but to no avail. Several of the other governors and I have been developing a [plan] to take the mines or establish mines of our own. In either case the mines will have to be defended from attacks by the grimlings unless when placed in that predicament they finally resort to trade negotiations.'

    You say, 'What plan?'

    Rallic Aristos says 'The full plans are not at my disposal but one of my concerns that may be instrumental in our success is the acquisition of grimling documents carried by a grimling courier who is seen frequently running from the forest to the mines. If one of the Validus Custodus attempts to obtain the runners pouch the grimlings will surely retaliate, if adventurers like yourselves obtained it however and quietly delivered it to me we may be able to move forward with our plans.'

    The grimling runner is found on the southern side of the zone. He drops a pack (LORE) which you turn into Rallic Aristos in Katta.

    Rallic Aristos says 'Excellent, the contents of the pouch shall be examined immediately. Take this pattern for a crafting a pack that will be sure to lighten the burden of its contents. I'm afraid I do not have the rest of the [required materials] at hand.'

    Arbogast says 'He that battles what he truly is only truly battles himself. Phenic Dionicas for years has made quite a show of his war on the Vampyres of Tenebrous. This misdirection of truth serves only to keep people from discovering that he himself is a foul demon of the night. Miller and I, for our singular vision of that which is true, are not well liked in this city and so cannot obtain proof for your disbelieving eyes.'

    You say, 'What proof?'

    Arbogast says 'You wish to see the truth for yourself? That is good, you will be taking your first step down a winding road to the only fulfillment this existence has to offer: enlightenment. Take this flask of water, I have blessed it such that it will singe the skin of the unholy. Go to Phenic Dionicas and give it to him, then you will see... you will see.'

    Miller says 'Yeah, splash it right in his unliving face!'

    You get "Arbogast's Holy Water." Go to Phenic in the main government building, 2nd floor, left going up the steps, and give him the water.

    Phenic Dionicas looks at you and smiles despite the fact that you have splashed water all over him - he does not appear to be burning at all. 'Oh, excuse me. You seem to have spilled your water, here have some of mine my friend. Good day to you, ______,' he says.

    You get "Phenic's Water." Return to Arbogast and give it to him.

    Arbogast says 'He simply gave this to you? Cunning indeed for him to cover his weakness so thoroughly - he must have powerful protective enchantments in place, no doubt put in place by his good friend and associate, Tsaph Katta!'

    Arbogast says, 'Ahh, you have retrieved the memoirs, let me see.' Arbogast opens the book and starts flipping through pages, 'Yes here, you... no, wait it must be back... hrmmm, maybe he... but it must... Well, that was pretty clever of old Tsaph Katta, removing any record of who he truly is- probably did it to cover up the fact that Norrath does not really exist.'

I am not one to spread conjecture, but it is possible that Katta's astronomers have discovered that the comet is hurtling slowly toward Luclin and will destroy all life on the planet, so you can see why he would want to keep the truth about the [Exodus] from his journal.'

    You say, 'What Exodus?'

    Arbogast says 'The Exodus is the single biggest lie propagated onto the people of Katta Castellum in the known history of the intelligent races. Hogwash I tell you.'

    Miller says 'A bloody, boldfaced lie!'

    Arbogast says 'A story told to children. Tsaph Katta wove together a tale of Seru trying to kill him on the fantasy world of "Norrath" and how the entire combine fled here to escape from him... a wheel of lies, do you see how they interconnect? Why, I'll bet that even in Shadowhaven, the very site of this alleged "Exodus" and home to one of the grandest libraries you will ever see, not a single shred of reliable evidence regarding such an event could be found. HA! You bring me a book on this "Exodus" and Miller here will eat his hat! Especially if the book is wrapped in that gold paper I gave you...'

    Beriol Talorakoir says 'Ahh, the event that started it all it was the strife between Seru and Tsaph Katta that ultimately brought us here to Luclin. Those must have been interesting times but, being over twenty generations Luclin born, I could only guess. One of these days I would like to read up on the subject, but what little we do have about it is always checked out. If that's what you came looking for, good luck - check with Rianna, she is usually up on those things.'

    Go to Rianna Birchard, to the right of Beriol by the wall.

    You say, 'Hail, Rianna Birchard'

    Rianna Birchard turns to you and smiles brightly, 'Hello, ______. Lots of work to be done - books to shelve, lessons to learn... I know it sounds a bit ridiculous, but I feel so at home here.'

    You say, 'Do you know of Exodus?'

    Rianna Birchard says 'Wow, what an interesting subject - almost impossible to gather hard evidence on, even for me. It seems that everyone was so taken off guard by the sudden change of scenery that no one bothered to keep any written record of the time. First they had to figure out where they were and once they did there was so much disagreement as to what they should be doing - try to get home, stay where they were and settle in or put some distance between them and Seru should he and his people try to follow, which, of course they did. All this lead to the formations of three of the four major cities here on Luclin, all with... oh listen to me go on, sorry. We have only one book on the subject, but Peqi borrowed it just the other day.'

    You say, 'Where is Peqi?'

    Rianna Birchard frowns a bit for the first time this conversation, 'Peqi... Let me tell you, I like just about everyone but if that little gnome never found his way back to this library I wouldn't be too disappointed.'

    The book on the Exodus comes off Peqi Biato, who spawns in Shadow Haven in the buildings near the entrance to the casters' guild. Combine this book in the gold paper Arbogast gives you and return the resulting "A Gold Wrapped Book" to him.

    Arbogast says 'Ahhh, excellent... I am glad to see your interest piqued. It is the truth that will liberate the masses when the masses fail to liberate the truth. To continue to divine and demystify the truth from the mistruth, I employ a powerful component known to the Akheva as 'Akuel xi ans Vius' which translated means 'Thing that tells Truth.''

    Yavik Teralin says 'It translates to 'Gift of the Dark' you fool!'

    Arbogast says 'Oh, the foolish and naive, they are the salt of the land... anyhow, bring me two of these wrapped in the black paper you have and I shall reward you, my new ally of truth, with a cherished robe that was given us by Seru himself. Isn't that right Miller? Miller...'

    You receive "Black Wrapping Paper." The Akuel xi ans Vius are tradeable, but TEMPORARY, and do drop in Akheva. Combine 2 unstacked in the black paper Arbogast gives you and return the resulting "A Black Wrapped Item" to him.

    Arbogast says 'Oh, would you look at that?'

    Miller looks a bit distressed and says to Arbogast, 'You said he would die getting these and we could keep...'
    Arbogast silences Miller with a kick under the table and smiles broadly at you, 'Well done and my very sincere thanks to you. The cloak is in the bank, Miller and I each hold a piece of it. We will go get it for you now.' Miller and Arbogast lean in close to each other and discuss this in whispers for a moment before getting up and heading out, Miller looking most dejected.

    Arbogast says 'Right then, let's get going Miller.'

    Miller and Arbogast do their business with the bank, Miller retrieving a heavy brown cloak and Arbogast a beautiful golden clasp. They look up at each other, unable to bear the thought of actually parting with their treasures when Arbogast says, 'You know what? I think we'll keep them. Thanks for your help, don't be a stranger. Come now Miller, let's not be a bother.' With that, they both tear off out the door.

    Miller says 'Wait for me!'

    You will have to kill both Miller and Arbogast. Miller is approximately a level 47 warrior, Arbogast a level 49 cleric. Miller drops a Heavy Drape, as well as 2 NO TRADE/TEMPORARY swords, Arbogast the clasp (called "Ornate Carcanet"), a NO TRADE shimmering mace (Akheva Bane, +6 wis, 11/24, I believe).     Drenic Garrison says 'The Magus Conlegium are assisting with some studies on the physiology of the Vampyres of the Coterie of the Eternal Night and are in need of [ash and blood] samples. Maralicis Dilsm our Governor of Health is assisting in research on [counteragents] to the venom and diseases native to Luclin. Finally, there have been reports from the agents of Erikal Wolfeye that there is a civilization of [snake people] that live on the furthest reaches of the light side of Luclin in a region devoid of atmosphere.'

    You say, 'What snake people?'

    Drenic Garrison says 'To the west beyond the Twilight Sea is an airless grey region between the light and dark sides of Luclin. Some time ago our scouts cooperating with powerful members of the Magus Conlegium attempted to chart the expanses of the barren treacherous region. During this excursion the scouts and magi encountered a small group of strange snake like men. The magi detected no magical aid that was allowing the creatures to move freely in the airless void without danger of suffocation. When approached the snake men quickly fled. We wish to know how these creatures survive in such conditions. If they prove to be a hostile species then we will have to resort to examining their [anatomy].'

    You say, 'What anatomy?'

    Drenic Garrison says 'I wish to examine the lungs or whatever breathing organs these creature have. It would not be prudent to hunt and kill a living member of this species and society we know practically nothing about but there are several undead snake men in the region as well. I will require three such organs however to perform the proper experiments.'

Among the largest of dangers in this region of Luclin are the vampyres of the Coterie of the Eternal Night. The coterie has been particularly active lately and we have already lost scouts attempting to track their [activities].'

    You say, 'What activities?'

    Celris Shadetracker says 'One of the vampyre volatilis, the winged leaders of the Coterie of the Eternal Night, has been followed flying from their Aerie in the Tenebrous Mountains to a small vampyre settlement in the Maidens Eye far to the south. The volatilis appears to be picking up shipments of wineskins from a vampyre at the settlement and bringing them to their Aerie. I doubt that the skins actually contain wine or any other such relatively harmless liquid. If you could return one of these skins to me I will gladly honor you as I would one of my own scouts.'

    Celris Shadetracker asks for a skin of liquid being transported from the Vampyre Aerie in Tenebrous Mountains to a Vampyre Settlement in Maiden's Eye.     Phenic Dionicas says 'I was on a routine trade route patrol through the tenebrous mountains and the grimling forest when we were attacked by a pack of the vile undead. The creatures that attacked us wore the garments of Shadow Haven merchants and nearly my entire patrol was slain by their claws and fangs. Only [Heratius Grolden] and myself made it back to the safety of Katta Castellum alive and shortly after I was the only survivor of the attack.'

    You say, 'What is the Validus Custodus?'

    Phenic Dionicas says 'The Validus Custodus is the army of the Loyalist Empire. It was formerly known as the Tsaph Katta Militia when the city of Katta Castellum was still being erected upon the cliffs that it now stands. As the city grew and the duties of the militia expanded the governors and magistrates of the time met in council and the Validus Custodus was formed. My father Galin Dionicas was elected the first Commander and Chief of the Validus Custodus. Commander Galin was slain in his sleep the very same night that Heratius body was stolen from the graveyard by the vile Coterie of the Eternal Night. Their deeds shall not go unpunished.'

    You say, 'Who is Heratius Grolden?'

    Phenic Dionicas says 'Heratius Grolden was a boyhood friend of mine and a brave legionnaire in the Validus Custodus. He was buried with honor in the graveyard of Katta Castellum. Several nights after his burial Heratius' grave had been dug up and his body was missing. I suspect and fear that the Coterie of the Eternal Night returned for him to make him one of their own. I pray to whatever gods are listening that some day we are able to [track down the defilers]!'

    You say, 'I will track down the defilers.'

    Phenic Dionicas says 'It has been several decades since the first group of vampyres that are responsible for the death of Heratius Grolden were encountered. I have been watching for signs of their origins since that time to little avail. What we do know is that they wore the apparel of merchants from Shadow Haven. How and why they were turned into the bloodsucking creatures they became is still a mystery and shrouded in many rumors. Take this official request form to the merchant records keeper in Shadow Haven and he may be able to provide you with records of any merchant caravans that departed for Katta Castellum within a reasonable time before the attacks and never returned.'

Ajar shuffles through several books on a cluttered shelf and a few minutes later procures the records and begins writing down the requested information. 'Here are the names that have been requested by Magistrate Dionicas. You can assure him when you deliver this record that it is quite accurate.'

    Nathyn IIIuminious says 'Valdanov departed many years ago. He had become dangerously obsessive with his research of vampyre physiology and the effects of various alchemical formulae on the undead creatures. His obsession began when a traveler arrived in Katta Castellum speaking of a Vah Shir vampyre. Valdanov began leaving the safety of the city frequently in search of this undead Vah Shir and for questionable alchemical reagents with which he insisted on testing on [captured vampyres] being studied by the Magus Conlegium.'

    You say, 'What captured vampyres?'

    Nathyn IIIuminious says 'After an unfortunate mishap with an escaped vampyre in the city the Magus Conlegium and the Validus Custodus declared that no vampyres shall ever again enter the city of Katta Castellum and only their ashes or blood may be studied under the careful observation of the Magus Conlegium. I am very sorry but I have some pressing business I must attend to and I'm afraid I have nothing more to offer. You may take this information back to Magistrate Phenic as he has requested.'

    You say, 'What abilities?'

    Kerzar Clawtore says 'His vampyric abilities of course. Valdanov had either been reborn in undeath far before myself or had a powerful mentor and the time and facilities in which to train. I did my best to resist his attack but I was still subdued by his superior skills and strength. He dropped this key in the struggle. I have no use for it, consider it yours. I must be going before I'm seen by the others. Oh no! It's too late! We've been spotted! May you continue your investigations in the afterlife!'

Valdanovs own motivation for his experimentation was none of my concern, but the outcome is quite fascinating I must admit.'

    Praecantor Selis Dawneyes says 'So it seems you are aware of the outcome of his hidden experimentation. Care to enlighten us as to what that outcome was?'

    Autarkic Lord Sfarosh says 'I am amazed at how little you fleshlings know of what occurs within the very walls of your own castellum. It is known by my Order that Akhevan blood has strange mutagenic effects on the bodies of non-akheves if introduced to their circulatory systems. The process by which the Shadow Tegi are infused with the blood is quite complicated and painful but I would deduce that a vampyre like Valdanov merely had to ingest the blood for the mutagenic agents to effect his physiology, causing the permenent change into what I believe you call a Vampyre Volatilis. I have no dealings with Valdanov since his mutation as I was imprisoned in Nathyns mansion until freed by these foolish fleshings.'

    Theurgus Ajeea Polaja says 'How was it that you came to be imprisoned in the mansion of Nathyn Illuminious?'

    Autarkic Lord Sfarosh says 'I was paying a visit to Valdanov with more Akhevan blood, not knowing he had already been banished by Nathyn from Katta Castellum for becoming the monster that he became. I must admit, Nathyn is a powerful and cunning creature. He was prepared for my arrival, captured me with his sorceries, and imprisoned me in that enchanted chest. I was not offered an explanation, nor do I know how he discovered my dealings with Valdanov, I assume he obtained that knowledge from questioning Valdanov about his mutation.'
