Happily married; my wife plays too About Toukan: I was already hooked when I met my wife, I was very lucky that she got hooked easily. We play together now when we're both home. I've been playing since 2001 so I've got a few more years experience playing then she does... Toucan started on Vallon Zek, played on Legends for 2 months, left Vallon when I could go with my gear...to an Ubisoft server, a French one. Huge mistake. The whole game was in French, even the spell names. If you didn't have a French keyboard, you couldn't key in some text trigger phrases for some quests. While having issues with this on some quest, a nice Ubisoft GM sent me to the British server, where I played until Ubisoft gave up and gave all the characters back to Sony and we all came back to AB...with a free ticket to whatever server we wanted. I'd had real life buddies on Povar since I started playing, so it was an easy decision. I remember being at a Fan Faire in Vegas where 'Venril Sathir wasn't a server choice...but I really look forward to going to the next one now that I know a lot of people in-game on Povar. Besides EverQuest, what other MMORPGs have you played? EverQuest was the first one and will be the last. How did you find out about EverQuest, and when did you begin playing? A lot of co-workers were playing, and discussions on the casino floor were more about EQ than work and as a supervisor this aggravated me. One of my buddies got me the game for my birthday so I'd stop complaining and just join the discussions. Do you know anyone in real life who plays EverQuest? Yes, I know everyone in our guild, it's just made up of people who know each other in real life who use the guild hall teleporter. How did you come up with your main character's name? All my D&D chars names started with a 'T' and Everquest kept rejecting what I was trying. I had a giant stuffed toucan I'd won at a carnival hanging in a corner and saw it and tried it out of desperation after trying 30 or 40 other names. When I got to Povar it was Toucanx or change the name... I changed it to Toukan. What factors affected your choice of race / class for your main character? In D&D warriors are the easiest to play, less rules to remember. I think I went troll because of the regen rate. About how often do you play EverQuest, and how long is a typical playing session for you? Daily, hours... How do you spend your time in game? In the SoF zones, lately either factioning, or hunting for steam-cores. What other class/race combinations have you levelled past 35? I play 4 characters at once, all the time, all 80. Dark Elf Warrior, Dark Elf Wizard, Barbarian Shaman. Approximately how much of the EverQuest world have you experienced? All of it except the high end raid zones. I got burned out on raiding back in the Velious days, and haven't enjoyed it since. What is your favourite expansion? LDoN, I loved the dungeon crawls, loved the points, loved the item that went up in stats the more dungeons you did. What is your least favourite expansion? Planes of Power..it ruined PvP on Vallon Zek for me, too many safe zones. I never did see the high end raid zones of it, won't see them now with fableds coming out. What is your favourite zone? Howling Stones has long been my favorite zone. It was always the most fun to exp in. I leveled Toucan from 53 to 60 in there...and got a bunch of aa's in there. I love the design, the trap floors. I hated when they raised the level caps to where there was no reason to go back. What is your favourite NPC? Any of the Magus's, they made traveling about SO easy. What is your favourite raid encounter (if different from NPC)? I haven't been on a real raid in years. If the war between Firiona Vie and Lanys T`Vyl erupted again, which side would you take? Firiona's pretty hot.. Describe your most memorable moment or proudest accomplishment in game. On Vallon Zek, years ago, Xanit K'ven took down the Statue of Rallos Zek with 28 people (or so) Just dark team players. No bards. No paladins. No rangers. 4th or 5th try of the night, everyone was tired, grumpy...but we won it. Until you've played at level 60 without paladin and ranger buffs, without bard songs....you really can't imagine it. We did it for years. What is the largest amount of platinum you have ever had at one time, and how did you go about accumulating it? I have a lot, the first 5 million or so was made just sitting in Ruined City of Dranik, killing rune dropping mobs, hoping for no-drop runes, getting tradable ones, and selling them in the bazaar during the OOW days. What are some things you would change or implement in order to improve EverQuest? I'd stop seeing just how big I can make the zones. Big means lag. It'd also be nice if the maps were just part of EQ and we didn't have to go to mapfiend to get them. What types of spells, skills, disciplines, and/or alternate abilities would you like to see added to your class? Warrior is pretty decked out, tho it is pretty ridiculous still failing to taunt your target 1/3 the time...and they should have some defensive AA's that are warrior or at least...tank..only. Not open to every class. If you were responsible for organizing and running a GM event, what would it be and how would it play out? I'm the first to admit I'm not creative enough to come up with something people would like. If you had to start over from scratch, what race/class combination would you choose? I wouldn't change it, and I think they've taken most of the class bonuses/minuses out of the game. How do you describe EverQuest to your coworkers or computer-illiterate friends? 'Computer game I play with my wife.' What is next for you in the world of EverQuest? Steam cores, Crystallos gear, whatever low end stuff we can group in low end PoP zones during the fabled. ** Pick the winner in a battle between... Qeynos vs Felwithe - Felwithe.. Elves win. Innoruuk the Prince of Hate vs Cazic Thule the God of Fear - Innoruuk... Tradeskilling vs Questing - Questing, I hate tradeskilling. Instance Zones vs Static Zones - They both have their ups and downs, but I like instanced dungeons. Monster Missions vs Project M (PvP as Monsters) - Monster Missions were one of this games biggest mistakes. Project M was just a failed idea nobody remembers. Soloing vs Pick-Up Groups - Soloing....too many people give up after one death...and quit. Guild Raiding vs Grouping With Friends - Grouping with friends hands down. GM (real people) Events vs Scripted (computerized) Events - GM Events. Arena Royal Rumble vs 1-on-1 Duel - Massive PVP in a real zone where the pc's/mobs jump in is the winner here... Faydwer vs Odus - I haven't spent much time in either. Kunark vs Velious - Kunark, I love the dungeons.. Sebilis and HS rock. Planes of Power vs Gates of Discord - I hated both expansions. Depths of Darkhollow vs Omens of War - OOW was a lot more fun to explore and exp in. Bard vs Enchanter - Enchanter for sure... Monk vs Rogue - Rogues, love that backstab. Paladin vs Warrior - Warrior of course.
