Player of the Week: Tanamen
Real Name: David Character Name: Tanamen Character Race: Wood Elf Character Class: Druid Deity: Tunare Server: Saryrn Guild: Twilight Exiles Guild Website: msnusers.com/twilightexiles Guild Rank: Member Length of Time in Guild: Approx. 1 year Real World Location: Varysburg, NY, USA Career / Employment Industry / Current Level of School: I'm a Machinist in an Aerospace company (MOOG Inc), 29 years there now, whoohoo! High school graduate (didn't need collage back in those days). Hobbies: Playing EverQuest, golf, travel (road trips), and I used to play piano before I got a computer. Family? Married. I have two daughters and two grandsons Besides EverQuest, what other MMORPGs have you played? Due to my work schedule, I only have time for one game. Some of the people I've talked to had played other games and have come back to EQ. They've told me that EverQuest has been their most satisfying, so I have no interest in taking the route they took in trying other games. How did you find out about EverQuest, and when did you begin playing? I began playing EQ during the summer of 2001. My daughter got me hooked on the game. She stopped playing when she began her new career out of state. Do you know anyone in real life who plays EverQuest? No. It was just my daughter I knew that played, along with her friends until they all moved away to get jobs in the working world. How did you come up with your main character's name? When I made this character, I was still a newbie to the game and wasn't that creative, so I used the name generator. What factors affected your choice of race / class for your main character? My first thought about a druid was, I'd like the idea of porting around and less running. The first few characters I made didn't make it far in leveling and I deleted them. The porting helped me explore more zones until I got the hang of the game. As my choice for choosing a wood elf, they're not too big, and not too small. They're just right. About how often do you play EverQuest, and how long is a typical playing session for you? I play mornings after I get out of work, which is the graveyard shift. I can get in about 4 to 6 hours each day during the workweek. But on the weekends, I play marathons. My best run time was a 36-hour stretch. Hard to believe, eh? How do you spend your time in game? Most of my first few years were just soloing wherever I could, but this year I've gotten into trade skills, questing, and working on my epics. What other class/race combinations have you levelled past 35? I have a level 75 wood elf druid, 75 human ranger, and 54 dark elf necromancer. Approximately how much of the EverQuest world have you experienced? EverQuest is a big world, and I believe I haven't seen half of it - more like only 40%. There's so much more out there for me to explore yet. What is your favourite expansion? The Serpent's Spine expansion has been my favorite since it came out, but I now find myself favoring the Buried Sea. But they both have the landscaping that makes me feel comfortable in. I like the style of polar bears and mammoths in icefall, but I also like the tropical setting in the Buried Sea. What is your least favourite expansion? It's too hard for me to pick out my least favorite because they all have their good points. What is your favourite zone? I kind of favor Icefall Glacier because of the atmosphere and the room it has for kiting. Besides that, I've met some nice friends there. What is your favourite NPC? Dogle Pitt. He's my banker and I see him almost every day. How can you not like a banker? What is your favourite raid encounter (if different from NPC)? I haven't been in many raids up to this point, but I'm catching an interest in it more and more lately. That's one part of the game I need to grow more in. If the war between Firiona Vie and Lanys T`Vyl erupted again, which side would you take? Firiona Vie Describe your most memorable moment or proudest accomplishment in game. My most memorable moment was when I learned about augments. It was years of playing without that knowledge. My proudest accomplishments have been making new friends. What is the largest amount of platinum you have ever had at one time, and how did you go about accumulating it? I had a bit over one million plat when my daughter and her friends quit playing the game and handed me everything they had. What are some things you would change or implement in order to improve EverQuest? The population of the game is getting thinner. I'm not sure if it's because more zones have been introduced or because people are quitting the game, but I think another server merge might help bring more people together. What types of spells, skills, disciplines, and/or alternate abilities would you like to see added to your class? There are zones that a druid can't port to, so they port to the closest ones they can, and then run the rest. I'd like to see more port spells to more zones and get to where they're going faster. It's a faster pace world we live in now. If you were responsible for organizing and running a GM event, what would it be and how would it play out? I would like to see an event where every person who joins in on it becomes a warrior, all the same level. It would be like a demolition derby where the last one standing wins. It would be about skill, and not what armor, spells, or AA's you have. If you had to start over from scratch, what race/class combination would you choose? I'd still favor a druid wood elf over other characters - only because I can still solo mobs that are higher in level than I am which my other characters can't, or have troubles with. How do you describe EverQuest to your coworkers or computer-illiterate friends? I tell my coworkers that EverQuest resembles real life situations in a way that you need food and water to live. There's rain, snow, sunshine, night time, lakes, deserts, mountains and flatlands. You also need to earn ($) your way up the ladder, just like in real life. What is next for you in the world of EverQuest? Reaching level 80 once the new expansion is released and making more friends. ** Pick the winner in a battle between...
