SOE President's Flight Diverted After Bomb Scare

Many Sony Online Entertainment players experienced downtime this weekend when both PSN and SOE were targeted in a DDOS attack. President John Smedley was vocal on Twitter Sunday, keeping everyone up-to-date with the status of server restoration.

The hacker group that initiated the DDOS took things one step further later on Sunday – tweeting out a false alarm to American Airlines, claiming that the flight Smedley was returning to San Diego on had "explosives on board."

SOE Live Attendees to Receive Loot Cards

In previous years, registered participants of SOE's annual convention would typically receive their in-game swag items in the weeks following the event. SOE is going a different route this year with the introduction of the SOE Live Loot Card.

Registered attendees will receive these cards on-site in their swag bags and can redeem them on any account that they choose. Additional cards will also be available on-site for $35 each. Anyone who registered but does not attend will receive their Loot Card key via email on or around August 22, 2014.

These cards are single use and will grant the account items for all of SOE's game, plus a mysterious mention for EverQuest Next. Only one card may be applied per account. Check out the full list of goodies after the jump.

SOE Grants Members Two Free Days

Sony Online Entertainment has been plagued by DNS problems since early Tuesday morning, causing players to intermittently be unable to access SOE websites, forums, and games. Today SOE issued an apology on their forums (if you can get to them) and social media:

We deeply regret the recent service interruption. We will be adding two days of membership time to all members’ accounts.

Because domain registration can take a while to filter through internet service providers everywhere, players may continue to have issues. In cases like this things are usually completely resolved within 48-72 hours. If you don't want to wait, you can also try to flush or map your DNS.

SOE Live Player Panel Schedule Released

Sony Online Entertainment has published the list of twelve Player Panels that will be featured at SOE Live. These player-run panels, some new and others familiar from last year's event, offer a wide variety of topics for attendees to enjoy. ZAM will have two of its number on player panels this year: LockSixTime will be on the Social Media & Streaming panel, while Cyliena will once again be on the EQ2 Hardcore Decorating panel.

SOE Live Updates: Extra Space and More

Linda "Brasse" Carlson has been posting updates all over today about SOE Live. SOE has managed to score more seat accomodations (meaning more premium passes can be sold), an experimental improved smart phone signal and more.

Confirmed: increased area of grand ballroom to accommodate 150 more Premium Passes. We will sell tickets online right up to event time (unless we sell out).

Confirmed: hotel has "increased nodes" in ballroom in an attempt to improve smart phone access - to be tested at the event! Initial tests by staff are positive, but huge numbers of people do weird things to cell reception.

Confirmed: Player Got Talent auditions to be accepted SOON - as in tomorrow. Start practising!

Confirmed: International attendees CAN participate in our awesome game tournaments this year!

Confirmed: EverQuest players lead the pack of 1542 people registered with 520 attendees, well in advance of second place EQII with 392.

Confirmed: Dead Carpet event, the Zombie Prom Party - we WILL have a zombie-themed drink special. I hope it does not contain gross lumpy or chunky bits.

Stay tuned for an awesome SOE Live contest launching on ZAM later today!
