I spent the majority of this past weekend in Palm Springs, CA. Beautiful area.
Anyhow, I did get some FFXI time in late Sunday evening, did a couple of campaigns on PUP/WAR, got 2.4k and 2.8k in each campaign. Then I logged onto Andersoncooper and crafted some more Ram Mantles. DING 44 and DING 45 Leathercraft.
I'm totally leaning on doing Leathercraft as a main now, since it seems to be pretty cheap to take to 100 using a Leathercraft guide I found on the wiki. The guide uses stuff that has cheaper synthesis materials, and sells back to NPC at a decent rate, which helps minimize losses. The guide itself starts at 40, so you can use other guides to get yourself up to 40.
This is the first guide I used to get up to 40 -
http://wiki.ffxiclopedia.org/wiki/Leathercraft_0-60_by_Ctownwoody I did not follow this guide exactly, due to the fact some of the items listed are just crap, but here's what I did to get to 41, which is when I began to use the 2nd guide.
0-2 - Sheep Leather (Dark Crystal: Windurstian Tea Leaves, Sheepskin, Distilled Water) - Farm the Sheepskins en-masse in Konschtat Highlands (camp Stray Mary at the same time) and synth on the spot, no synthesis support needed here, just make sure you bring a bunch of materials, and save up at least 6 stacks of Sheep Leathers for the upcoming synths.
2-5 - Leather Bandanna (Wind Crystal: Sheep Leather) - This item is actually not listed on Ctownwoody's guide, but the recepie is easy, and is a decent bridge synth to the next item on my list. Take this to cap, and try to de-synth these to try and get some of your leather back.
5-11 - Solea (Wind Crystal: Sheep Leather x2) - Another easy synth, but uses twice the leather to make. Same thing applies from the Bandanna, make a bunch of Solea, and then de-synth them to try and get some of your leathers back so you could make more. If you happen to run out of leathers, run back out to the Highlands and farm/synth a bunch. Take this to cap, or close to it. I stopped at 10 and started the next synth.
11-16 - Lizard Gloves (Earth Crystal: Lizard Skin, Leather Gloves) - What I did here was farm the Lizard Skins en-masse from Crawler's Nest, then once I had about 5 stacks of Lizzy Skins, I went to the Armor Shop in San d'Oria and bought a bunch of Leather Gloves. Made a bunch of these, and sold to NPC. It's a slight loss, but farming the skins yourself minimizes the loss greatly. I took this to 15, then moved on to a nice bread and butter synth.
16-21 - Dhalmel Leather (Dark Crystal: Dhalmel Hide, Windurstian Tea Leaves, Distilled Water) - Farm the hides en-masse at Bubu Peninsula and synth on the spot when you get a drop. If you try to start this at 15 and try to make these out in the field, you may get a few too many breaks for your liking. If you took the previous recepie to cap, you should be ok. These sell pretty well at AH so you can make some of your gil back. Take this to cap, because the next synth is a big gap.
21-31 - Parchment (Dark Crystal: Sheep Leather, Rolanberry) - Yes, a 10 level gap. Farm and synth a bunch of Sheep Leathers, or...if you have the gil, buy them from the AH. You'll need about 6+ stacks of them. Also, purchase Rolanberries from Gekko in Port Jeuno (Duty Free Shop near the AH) and get the same number of stacks (6+). Go back to San d'Oria, and GET ADVANCED SUPPORT, you'll need it! Even with the advanced support you'll experience a lot of breaks. But with each successful synth there's a possibility of a .2 or .3 skill up. Once you get to 24, the number of breaks will be significantly lower and skill ups faster. Just NPC the product, it's a total loss no matter how you put it. I stopped making these once I hit 29 and began the next item on the list.
31-35 - Ram Leather (Dark Crystal: Ram Skin, Windurstian Tea Leaves, Distilled Water) - A good bread and butter synth here. You'll be using these leathers for a while, so make a huge batch. Kill Rams in either Konschtat Highlands or La Thiene Plateau, both drop multiple skins per kill. Farm a bunch or synth on the spot in the field. If you stopped at 29 you should be ok without synthesis support, but if you stopped earlier than 29, heading back to Sandy and getting support is recommended. Take this all the way to the cap, the next item will be using up these leathers.
35-43 - Waistbelt - (Wind Crystal: Ram Leather x2, Grass Thread) - Hate Yagudo? So do I! Head over to Giddues with about 5 stacks of Wind Crystals, and go on a mass murder RAMPAGE on any Yagudo you come across. You're after their Necklaces! It's a Clothcraft Lv. 2 synth, so even with 0 skill you should be able to make them en-masse. Once you have enough Grass Threads, head back to Sandy, get some synthesis support, and make Waistbelts. Sell them to NPC, they actually sell for a decent amount of gil (1.6k per, IIRC) I personally took this recepie to 42, which at that point, I began utilizing the 2nd guide.
http://wiki.ffxiclopedia.org/wiki/Leathercraft_Guide_by_Galvaya This 2nd guide is a guide specifically for 40-100 Leather, and uses recepies that utilize cheap from AH or easy-to-farm materials. These items also sell back to NPC for a good chunk of gil, which helps to minimize losses. There are also a few bread-and-butter synths in here. Hope this helps you Seyton.
