And has offered the lead role to ScarJo.

Quote:
Based on the 1995 film of the same name (as well as the Manga comic), GHOST IN THE SHELL is the latest anime adaptation in the Hollywood pipeline, with SNOW WHITE AND THE HUNTSMAN's Rupert Sanders directing. Recently, it was reported that THE WOLF OF WALL STREET's Margot Robbie was up for the lead role of Motoko Kusanagi, the cyborg heroine of the series, but apparently aggresive negotiations to get her into David Ayer's just-announced SUICIDE SQUAD may have derailed her involvement and now the word is that a $10 million offer has been made to Black Widow herself, Scarlett Johansson, to take the part.

After her success as the Marvel heroine, as well as the badass in Luc Besson's summer sleeper, LUCY, Johansson has proven herself to be an action star to contend with, giving her a better payday (if she takes it) and puts her in front of a more high-profile project to help grease her career wheels. Personally, I think it's a great project for Johansson, capitalizing on the clout she's built as a strong female asskicker and gives her a little more diversity than a black jumpsuit and red in her ledger. Plus, if Marvel isn't going to give her a Black Widow standalone film, she doesn't have much choice but to pursue other opportunites for lead roles. GHOST IN THE SHELL could be just what she needs.

No word on how close she may or may not be to signing on, but the deal is sure to move along quickly. Johansson will next be seen again as Natasha Romanov/Black Widow in AVENGERS: AGE OF ULTRON on May 1, 2015.

I guess this means I should finally get off my *** and watch SAC. Smiley: laugh

On one hand, she was pretty good in Winter Soldier, and much like Daredevil she was good in the crapfest that was Lucy so might be good. On the other hand, it's an anime-to-American Live Action adaptation, and that's pretty demonstrably a death sentence. Guyver, Fist of the North Star, Dragonball Z ...

That's pretty much what I was thinking. Well, that and "at least they didn't cast Keanu Reeves this time".

I'd watch it because I like Scarlett. But my expectations are low.

Why do they keep doing things like this anyway? Has it ever ended well?

Because someone is eventually going to get it right, and the first to get it right will reap the benefits.

Well, if it's anything like the anime, they'll spend the vast majority of the movie painfully over explaining the plot and then have a five minute action scene followed a group sit down where everyone painfully over explains what just happened.

Can add Edge of Tomorrow to that list as well(well light novel to American live action but same thing). Even going in not knowing anything it wasn't worth the red box rental.

I liked it too. Fairly faithful to the Manga & the best Tom Cruise movie to come out in a long time.

Oblivion did it for me, too. And although that might be an unpopular opinion I thought MI4 to be the best entry in the series.

I would have given it a pass if it had ended about 10 mins sooner. I understand somethings have to change to suit western taste but they should have went with a lesser know and took the risk of a more faithful ending.

I just read up on the original ending and while admittedly it would have had more of a 'cool' factor, I really really liked Emily Blunts character and would not have want her to die.

It was totally awesome when it first came out. Of course, I was like 10 at the time, so what the hell did I know? And to be fair, anyone who wasn't a child in the 70s really doesn't understand the relative perspective you have to put on stuff like this.
