Can we PLEASE get a release date already? It's so annoying seeing all these teasers and trailers without having any idea when it's actually going to air.
Never really watched the original series, but after seeing that action sequence, I'm impressed.
Guess I know what I'm doing this week.
The original series proved that if western animators try, they can actually make non-purely episodic cartoons, and that's why the show is so beloved. The other nice bit is that since it's an English language originally, it doesn't have the feeling of "this dub sucks" due to stuff getting lost in translation, and the voice actors actually do a really nice job on top of that. Also they based all the bending styles on cool martial arts.

Except if it were baby photos, it would be like looking at before and afters of Michael Jackson. Only instead of turning into a white guy, he changes into a chick!
I will have to catch up on the original series, but count me in.

I, for one, can't wait for steampunk earthbending.
Makes you wonder if Toph ever managed to pass on Metal bending. Also, Katara was in that video... I wanna see senile Sokka! (and old lady Toph, who I'm sure is 100x more awesome than she already was)

A bit unrelated, but on the topic of metal bending...
What do you suppose is the 'upgraded' version of air bending? We saw metal, lightning, and blood/life, but I don't remember there being a 'higher level' version of air bending.

Vacuum bending. Creating a space devoid of air around someone's personal space, and watching them suffocate to death.

I'm waiting for them to add Light Bending in the series so the Avatar can create rainbow colored death beams.
The next step can only be an orbital friendship cannon.

Wow, you've got an awesome writing style.! I really dig the narrator'sback story, humor, sarcasm, and the plethora of pop culture references. Altogether a refreshingly different RotR journal (not that I don't like the more traditional ones, mind you).

According to rumors she does go around teaching metal bending, and it becomes integral in the world's law enforcement. Her daughter is supposed to be the head detective/cop/whatever, in fact. There's also supposed to be a group of Anti Benders, with the ability to keep benders from bending like Ty Lee. So expanding on that would be pretty awesome. Keep in mind that's all rumors.

I always thought there should be "Dark/Light sides" of bending. Would love to see an evil Water Bender suck the blood right out of his/her victim which would be a really OP power BTW. I know we have blood bending but still.

Didn't Hama not only control the water in the blood but suck the water out of the rats in prison? (It's been a while since I've watched the episode).
Also, it seems that Katara has let herself go. She should have used that blood bending to try and keep herself young all vampire-like or something.

I think that's specifically a dichotomy the first series tried to avoid. There isn't really a lot of good/evil characters in Avatar. Ozai is perhaps the closest to being more than simply an antagonist and into a villain, yet I never really received that vibe. Even Aang wasn't above lying to settle a dispute.
I liked the lack of preaching. Aang was a vegetarian and Sokka couldn't go a meal without meat, but neither tried to force a lifestyle choice on the other.
And while benders are very important and potent characters in the series, it was never so overly focused on bending that non-bending characters fell into insignificance.
Okay, just watched that episode where they go to see the play that reenacts the whole plot of the show. The part where Toph's actor comes out, and her subsequent reaction, might be the most amazing thing I've ever seen on a television show.
Now, I didn't watch that because spoilers for the first series, I assume, and I'm only a dozen or so episodes in. But there it is, and enjoy it before it's taken down.
Toph's daughter isn't nearly as cool as Toph was. Srsly.
I kind of expected a "everyone is the opposite of their proxy" thing going. Aang was pretty reserved and full of self doubt while Korra is boisterous and self assured to a fault. He didn't really care for the Avatar title, whereas Korra is all over it like white suburban teenagers on ricer cars. Toph was what Korra is, where as her daughter is no nonsense and serious about her duties. Hell, Tenzen is the opposite of Sokka, even with the trademark Beard Stroke™. They're both intelligent, but Tenzen is serious whereas Sokka is a clown. I don't doubt there will be more examples as the series goes on.
As an aside, all the rumors I had read seem to be entirely true, and being confirmed in the first episode makes it pretty awesome. My favorite part, so far, is the music. I thought, when I first saw it, that Republic City would be my favorite aspect of the new show (like I said earlier, it is New York, complete with the Statue of Liberty/Aang and the Brooklyn Bridge), but I found myself really enjoying the swing music.
Long After Edit: I have no idea why I wrote Sorra instead of Sokka. Twice in fact.

I find it cool that they made Metalbending a distinct school, and really like the way they've utilized it with the police force. I can't decide if I want Korra to learn it, though. The Avatar, by nature, is already so OP. Letting there be some skills she doesn't have seems desirable.
I wonder if she's able to see with her feet, the same way Toph and Aang could?
[EDIT]
Also, it's going to be nice to see a fighting style that actually incorporates all the bending schools, rather than Aang's airbending with a sprinkling of the others. It's not surprising that they've chosen to set up the character as having mastered all but one of them. We've seen a lot of Airbending--it'll be nice to see the others in action.
I can't remember, did Aang ever actually learn about using lightning?
But honestly, when I think about Iroh explaining how incredibly different controlling lightning is to normal fire bending, and then Toph's explanation of metal bending, it would not shock me at all if there are some people hiding around in this series that have taken lightning control and turned it into a full form of bending, distinct from firebending, the way metalbending is distinct from earthbending. Lightningbending sounds wonky, though... Thunderbending? Stormbending? And now I'm remembering something else, bloodbending isn't really waterbending's analogue to lightning/metal, I think the plantbending that those swamp waterbenders did would fit much better, especially given the noticeable differences between the way they did their waterbending compared to Katara and Aang's waterbending. I'd love to see some plantbenders make a come back in the new series, too...
But this series definitely looks even more promising now that I've seen the first episode... Like, it met all my already high expectations, and then exceeded them, in a single episode...

Same thing really. Puppeting plants by bending the water in them and puppeting people by bending the water in them (blood.)
