Do you not have hobs or a real oven?

I do, it's just really hard to reheat things like cooked plain rice on the stove.

I plan on making foods that are compatible with being served room temp or cold for the next few days. Chicken salad. Pasta salad. Kale chips and crudites. Bakery bread.

I might also get creative with some of the things like the cooked rice. It was meant to go with the gumbo, which is easy enough to reheat. Those might become gumbo and rice soup somehow.

Use a double boiler. Put a pan with a little water in it on the stove. Put your rice in a smaller pan and place it inside the larger pan. Cover and heat.

I go away for the week and miss all the fun. It's rain everyday since I got here, so I'm currently waiting to see if people will be wandering the camp ground now that the sun is out for the evening.

We had a batten down the booths alert this afternoon, and I decided to check out my email, before I go back out and raise my Pop-up canopy.

Just as well, can only have so many "Obama sucks" threads in one forum. He did last a long time though.

Looking at the clouds from outside of Hopkins it looks like it's gonna pick up again in a couple of hours, don't forget to put it back down.

Ah well, better luck next time then. At least you only barely missed out on a $4 card rather than something like the Brainstorm they gave out way back when.

Eh, I never worry much about card value. I don't even bother sleeving my cards. Which someone last night asked if I had just made the deck right before playing because none of my cards were sleeved Smiley: laugh

Here's my gimpy deck. My loss was to a G/B dredge deck. First round, I creamed him, second round he creamed me. Third round, I had him down to 10 life, had nine damage worth of creatures on the field and a Brave the Elements in my hand. Oh, but for one more point of damage...

The round I lost in a later match was pure mana-*****. I should have mulliganed but figured the odds were in my favor to draw a land next turn. Five turns later, I drew my first land Smiley: rolleyes

No wonder you got mana screwed, you really should run 21-23 lands, even Legacy decks play ~18 lands (crazy landless decks aside) and they have way more free spells and library manipulation.

I'd also cut the rams in the sideboard for more deicides or other removal. If you're casting Rams you've probably already lost the game as you essentially give up 2 mana to cast something that doesn't help you win as you have very little chance of winning a long game.

Heh, I thought I had 18 plains in there but when I broke it down later, I guess not. 21+ would feel like complete overkill for a deck with one mana color and a CMC of 3 or less. For the one game where statistics caught up with me, there's ten games where I'm sitting around with five or six lands out and drawing cards that cost one.

The rams were really just to fill the sideboard. I mainly just built a sideboard for a couple cards and only wound up using the Deicides in one game. Banishing Priests/Lights and Keening App's gave me enough removal. Thinking about pulling two of the Phalanx Leaders since I have so few targeted spells anyway and without triggered Heroic they're just 1/1 junk. Might try Sightless Brawlers against my son this week and see how they go. Or pull all four and go two Brawlers and two plains.

That said, it's always about the tweaking. Until the stuff from RtR block goes out and then it'll be about bitter tears Smiley: laugh

19 plains and 4 Mutavaults would be ideal but short of that (assuming you're not spending ~$100 for 4 cards for the three months they're legal) I really wouldn't go below 21 lands, you need to hit your one, two and three drops (Brimaz would be a great addition) and keep up mana for combat tricks so you really want 3-4 lands in the first 4 turns.

Yeah, I'm not buying any $20+ cards like Mutavaults or Brimaz. Especially since I'd need 3-4 in a deck to make them worth inserting. I'm happy enough getting 5th place on a $30 deck versus 2nd place with a $200 deck. I'd need to win a hell of a lot of boosters to start seeing a return on my investment Smiley: grin

That's why you start playing Legacy or Modern. Decks are even more expensive but they can be called an investment. Smiley: grin

Those $100+ dual lands will only increase in value.

Think of it like a college fund, especially if you decide to make your deck all shiny and black bordered with dual lands and foil Force of Wills.

You'll only have a pile of 75 cards worth the same as a brand new car!

Personally, if I had the money, I'd build a Sneak & Show deck because nothing beats a turn 1 Emrakul or Griselbrand.

Ok, this thread it making me twitch. Got rid of my cards years ago, though random lands still show up from time to time. Don't know if I even have my prized collection of Lord of the Pits around still.

I sold 6 I found in a box of things for like $800. I wouldn't make any assumptions that they'll increase in value. Markets are markets, values go up and down. Counterfeiting cards from the dual land era gets easier and easier, entirely likely anyone will be able to do it for pennies at home in 10 years. This isn't Renaissance art we're talking bout here.
