I'm going to preface this by stating that Gbaji did not contact me about this, has not said a word about this, and has not reported any Karma camping.

That being said, Here's the deal. I know there are quite a few people that rate Gbaji down for various reasons. I ignore it largely because he seems to like taking an argumentative role and brings alot of it on himself. There are several of you who have taken it upon themselves to rate every single post he ever makes down. It's kind of a **** move, especially since he doesn't rate you at all, and the rules call it Karma camping.

The penalty is a no-rate.

The fact that people took a 10,000 post Sage account down to sub scholar quite frankly irritates me, regardless of the post content of the user in question and their efforts at trolling aside. The fact that Gbaji has also been here 5 years longer than the people doing the Karma camping also bears some weight. But, so does the trolling, which is why I'm issueing this official somewhat vague Administrator note to the responsable parties. if you aren't karma camping every post Gbaji makes, then this probably doesn't apply to you.

So, going forward, Knock it off! That doesn't mean you don't get to rate Gbaji down, but the ones who are doing it on every post will be no rated effective immidiatly after this post if it continues. Please note that rates record by timestamp to your profile. If it still continues after that, then I will damn well make Gbaji a guru just to **** those people off.

Stop it.

guru is just too short a word for gbaji

Rate him up to "Poster who takes time to laboUr a point, even when his arguments have been destroyed by simple facts, but persists in wielding his misguided, verbose sword of half-truth"

C'mon Kao - he earned it.

Yes, gbaji should have his own designation - like 'Adjunct Professor of Dorkeries'.

Since we're airing our gripes about rates, I'd like to say that I dislike sub-defaulted posts. They look very untidy and require an extra click to read. Ergo, I often will un-sub them if I can. .....just sayin'.

You can set yourself to view all posts so you don't need to click on sub-defaulted stuff. "Forum settings" up next to the forum search bar.

He wouldn't thank you for using that filthy word to describe any action of his.

Ok. Though I really didn't want to have to learn something new. Smiley: rolleyes

Sub-d posts are still visually displeasing. They leave a thread feeling incomplete...like draft comments left on a document that is trying to be finalized.

Relevant (and probably soon to be obligatory): http://xkcd.com/1357/

Edit: That's just about the victim thing and Gbaji using "free speech" as his soapbox earlier. Kao obviously has the right to moderate the forum as his job sees fit.

I'm one of those that rates people up if they make a good point even if I normally disagree with them. Smiley: frown

Hey yeah I forgot about that. He was sage at one point way back when.

I rarely rate anyone one way or the other.

I'm just putting him on ignore now. It's just really easy to disagree with everything he says and he really, REALLY tries to push buttons sometimes.

I have always been under the impression that the rate system was to rate-down trolls, haters, psychos and spammers (and to engage in the occasional rate-war). While I disagree with much of gbaji says, his comments don't fall into any of the down-rate categories.

I don't have any problem responding to him without down-rating him.

gbaji is not unique in button-pushing. We're all guilty; which reminds me of a foray I took into the human psyche with an NPR-blog a couple weeks ago. Why are we spiteful?

I don't know if it matters, but he has been bouncing back and forth for the last week or two.

I'm guessing someone else also didn't want to see him go sub-Scholar.

I don't get it. Is there some satisfaction gained by rating down? I'm not talking about the occasional rate down, but what drives someone to rate down every post made by someone else?

It's words on a page. If it gets to the point where it becomes annoying, walk away for a bit. Be careful, you may get what you wish for. Sub-D him and who is going to take the other side of the discussion? Then it just becomes a circle-jerk.
