Actually it seems that local TV and the Weather channel has gone off the deep end with dire reports of the winter storm that will hit us here on the east coast sometime tonight. They couldn't just come up with one of the Titans names for it in their attempt to create panic, but name it after a whole class of giants gods.

I wouldn't care about the fact that we'll have between 6" to 12" of snow tomorrow, but for the fact that I suppose to go practice parking for my drivers license tomorrow.. I just got tired of having to ask people for rides to events outside of the city, so I'm finally getting my drivers license after some 39 years since I first took driver's ed.I wanted to see if I still remember how to parallel park.

Back when I was stuck in the middle of no where Naval Air Station, I did drive without a license, so I am just rusty with a few things I need to do to past the drivers test. The teachers of the class I am taking are very good about letting you know what to expect when you take the test :)

I never had to parallel park on my exam, which was good, because I didn't learn how to do that until college. I still try to avoid it.

I wouldn't even have to practice it, but for the fact that I'm dyslexic and get right and left side mixed up sometimes. Maryland requires that you can parallel park and do a 2 point turn on the test and f you can do them successfully in the 3 minutes they give you for each, you then told to go out and drive in traffic along local streets. I'm not crazy enough to take the test in Baltimore City, so I'll be going to Glen Burnie to take the test, as Route 2 is no different then driving on route 40 here just outside the city. Jonwin's been letting me drive when we aren't in a hurry since I gotten my learners permit. So far the instructor had me drive out to small city west of here and drive along a apartment complex streets.

Elne, hit the Bel Air MVA. The on-site course is a lot easier to work with, and they'll probably have you tour Harford Mall for the road test.

I just have to convince Jonwin that Bel-Air would be best place for me to take the test. I actually seen YouTube video, that was posted of Bel-Air test. They of course changed the route since they found out about the video.

I've also heard that Annapolis and Westminster are the best places to take the test. Jonwin thinks I'm being a bit paranoid about preparing for the test, but from what I heard, your best bet sometimes is to say out loud everything you are doing, so the examiner can't claim your not checking mirrors and doing head checks.

I plan to wash the car the day before inside and out. If he wasn't such a tight wad, I would take the car to a car wash that taxi companies use. He also has to get the back passenger side wheel fixed before I take the test, as it seems that one of the local pot holes bent it last week.

If you are able to go to Bel Air for the test, leave an hour or two early, hit I-95N and take Exit 77A to the Rainbow Car Wash. For $30 you get a nearly full service wash, they don't clean the dashboard and such but they vacuum and clean the windows interior along with the full exterior detailing.

It's interesting to me how different things are with regard to driving tests based on where you are. Out here in California, I've never heard of anyone choosing which DMV to take the test at based on ease of the test itself. It's always about how long the wait is going to be. There's not much difference in roads in one area versus another around here.

There is actually a great deal of variation here in quality of roads, road layout, and the drivers themselves around here; e.g. the amount of narrow 1-way streets in Baltimore city. Also there seems to be a clear difference in driving attitudes in various areas around here. It would say that driving around the more rural counties of Maryland the better quality of drivers there are.. but when you get further south (closer to Capitol Beltway for instance) the people just seem to suck at driving more.. for whatever reasons (I'll keep my theories to myself).

Either way with the weather today I'm guessing that Elne had to postpone her test either in Bel Air or elsewhere.
