Amazon Prime Air

Basically, a drone helicopter takes off from an Amazon distribution center and drops off your stuff on your door step within 30 minutes of ordering. It's just a test, but it's pretty damn neat. I suspect that it won't be available more than a few miles from a DC, so I'll never see one if they do end up getting it running, which is a bit sad. At least I won't be tempted to steal the drone.

Edit: Now with 100% more Youtube vidoe.

Time to build anti-aircraft turrets on the roof.

They totally stole that idea from tacocopter!

None of my drones are big enogh to lift a payload. The parrot might if i took the rest of the super heavy *** housing off and replaced it with something lighter. I keep meaning to build a bigger one, but all my other hobbies keep competing for funds. I'd rather have a long range glider with a good camera on it anyways at this point. lots of interesting mountains and wildlife around here to take pictures of from the air.

I found a 3d model of the GAU--8 Avenger gatling gun. I bet that would work pretty well as a makeshift anti aircraft artilliary piece!

That reminds me of the Dehogiflier!

Bonus points if you hunt said wildlife barefoot with a spear like Bushman the Goon on the somethingawful forums.

I wonder how Bigfoot manages to camoflage him/herself when them things fly over??

I got a loaner car from the body shop that is fixing up my buggy after thanksgiving deer collision (it's a PT Cruiser Smiley: clown). This morning as I was exiting the vehicle I noticed a little black case stuck between the seat and the center console. It had a pair of spy sunglasses in it - there's a little camera, recording buttons and even a little removable sd card. The card appears to be empty, but I'm charging the glasses now. They seem to be brand new.

I'm not saying that the NSA is totally going to "disappear" you, I'm just saying that body shop probably shouldn't bother rushing your repairs.

It was a subtle hint that they would accept private POV videos in lieu of cash as payment for the bodywork.

As if having to drive around a PT Cruiser isn't bad enough already.

Smiley: lol inorite!

These are the glasses. They have a different name on them but they're pretty much identical. Nice to know someone isn't spazzing out about losing a $300.00 pair of spy glasses containing top sekret pics and recordings.

It started out life as a Lulzbot AO-100, which is a mendelmax derivative. I upgraded the frame to AO-101 specifications, then beyond that with some more accurate parts of my own design. You can see them and my printer itself here if you are curious: http://www.thingiverse.com/thing:164054 So basically the controller is the same as the AO-100 (a RAMPS 1,4 airduno based controller) but everything else is basically a Mendelmax 1.5 with upgrades. My latest project is attaching two linear rails to the side frame for more accuracy, which will give me one of the more accurate fusion deposition modeling printers on the planet when I am done.

That's a large quadcopter. A glider would be something more like a MQ-9 reaper drone or a predator drone. More airplane based than helicopter based. I have been kicking around the idea of trying to make a quad engine variant of the V-22 osprey design as a long range helicopterglider, but the transition from helicopter mode to forward flight requires some fairly expensive electronics that are out of my budget at the moment. You can see some of the required mechanisms here: http://www.rotormast.com/rm/index.php?option=com_content&view=article&id=23&Itemid=130

I have started collecting parts for the long range radio and video systems. Still will be another $1k on radio equipment alone before I have enough parts to put something in the air that can go 35 miles though. so it will be a while.

I figured that a quadcopter would be better because it can hover and is more stable, although I'm sure the thing in the picture is anything but cheap.

Basically any kind of quad / hexa or octocopter cost is dependent on two things, the radio package and the motor / electronics package. You can buy a high end quadcopter frame for around $200. A good motor the size of the one in that picture will run between $30 and $300 per motor (the more expensive ones are usually not used in quad copters) Add to that an electronic speed controller for each motor ($25 - $250) and it adds up quickly. The long distance control, telemetry and video feed equipement with a built in autopilot and an on screen display runs around $1,000, with another $30-$2,000 needed for the radio transmitter itself depending on features and options. Add to that a high end camera ($5k?) and a decent gimble mount ($50 - $250) and things get spendy with a quadcopter really quick. Radio costs for a powered glider are the same, but you only need the one engine. much less crying if you crash it.

The one in the picture is from Top Gear, so the 5k in camera is about right (probably a Canon 5DmkII or mkIII with an L series lens) and since they use these or cranes for every other shot outside of the studio they probably didn't skimp on anything either.

Also two of these, one for the copter and one for the camera:

I have one of those! Spektrum Dx8's are nice radios. Slap an Eagletree OSD set and a pair of video and radio / data UHF antennas and you can fly anything quite a ways away. until it crashes.

I just paid $5 to have Amazon send some light bulbs to my house with two day shipping because I'm too lazy to make a stop at the hardware store. Plus, we're Prime members so it's "free" shipping (yeah, we paid for the Prime membership but we get our money's worth out of it).
