Let me explain further what I meant. I was thinking that it could be possible for the people running the show, to discourage the Bachelor/ette from selecting a PoC, either by straight up telling them not to, or by purposefully selecting PoC that had very little in common with them. I realize that sounds sort of crazy conspiracy theorist, but it is a possibility. It just strikes me as odd when I read that no PoC has made it past the first few eliminations, with as long as that show has been on the air. You would think at least a few might have, even if they weren't eventually picked as the finalist, or whatever you want to call the winner.

Same here. I don't think I've ever even seen an episode of either of the two shows. But I've seen a fair amount of the dating shows that came about after its success, and they're all about the same. People get to spend time with the central person as a group, and then they also get the option of picking some of the "candidates" for one on one dates. At the end of every episode, there is an elimination ceremony where a pre-determined number of candidates get eliminated. This culminates into a final episode where the central person has to choose between two or three people.

There's a very good chance that there isn't any intentional malice behind the lack of PoC staying in the game longer. But there's also a possibility that there is. We don't know who these producers are or what they're like. And there has been speculation for years that these dating shows are fixed, where the people in charge of the show decide who they want the central person to choose, and put that in their contract. If that is indeed true, I think it's not that unlikely that the show creators would have the central person choose someone that they think their viewers are going to like the best.

While most Americans are probably okay with inter-racial couples for the most part, if presented a choice, they're ultimately going to pick a partner for someone who looks good with the other person, someone that looks a lot like that person. I don't even think it's a conscious thing, but a lot of people get themselves worked up about how cute a couple is or isn't, based purely on physical traits. If you get a short girl and a really tall guy together, people wonder why they're together. Same thing if you have one person who is significantly more attractive than the other. When it comes right down to it, Americans as a whole are incredibly superficial in this manner. Not everybody is like this of course, but the type of people who watch these shows on a regular basis, most likely are. About the only time viewers aren't going to like a pretty girl that looks good with the guy, is if she presents herself as a bitch or a gold digger.

According to a really tall guy, ALL women seem equally short to him. Which is why he never factors height into his judgement of women's attractiveness.

People DO subconsciously gravitate towards partners that have similar bone structures to themselves, or other similar features. (Which often has the effect of ending up with partners that look like members of their own family which is both hilarious and squiky at the same time especially for artists/photographers/scientists/hairdressers who can see the underlying bone structures of other people more easily.) But there is plenty of room across races for partners to match facial structures. A Caucasian with an Asian or an African with both partners having a short, square face with a pointed chin, for example. Or both partners having upslanting brows and downslanting lips. Or both partners having a wide jaw and wide lips, even if their lip thickness is very different.

In Australia most minority families send their children to public schools, and most minorities who attended public schools from young childhood wind up in mixed race/culture/religious pairings. These often involve one Anglo Aussie partner, but quite often involve people of two different minorities. Interestingly they often involve partners of minorities who's background nations are culturally close but at war or cold war with each other. A Greek-Australian with a Turkish-Australian. A Bosnian Australian with a Serb-Australian. A Palestinian-Australian with an Israeli-Australian. They probably give their parents conniptions, but somehow these second generation Australians find common ground with each other.

People who attend public schools, which are all secular, tend to cherry pick their own backgrounds, hanging onto the nice things about their background culture, while sinking into the general Australian culture. It's different for minorities who are sent to private religious schools. They often feel more obligated to their own parents to date and marry within their own culture. But there's no use trying to dismantle the ethnic minority religious schools. There's too many historical private Anglican and Catholic schools that would fight tooth and nail against being reformed along with the others.

We're not on your shows because we don't need any help getting your white menz.

The biggest surprise to me is that the show is still on. But then, I shouldn't be too surprised given that most of the stuff on network TV is tripe anyway.

They outta put a black gal as the central character and then have a bunch of white hipster douchebags as potential suitors. I'd watch that just for the lulz.
