I haven't been doing it on purpose lol. I've just been selling the items I pick up along the way that I have no use for.
Not blaming you, lol. Just pointing out what Joph said--you probably have a mod making the game easier that you didn't realize had that effect. Many of them have a bunch of small effects--the writers are generally good at telling you how to disable them in the readme files. But if you're doing mass modding, it's easier to get fed up going through every one carefully.
Okay, well let me clarify. I actually downloaded a save file for my current game, that started out right before you go to Lothering. The person who uploaded the save file said that was how she started out with 300g, by selling the mace you get for completing the golem DLC. Every other piece of DLC I've gotten, the vendors have offered less than 10g for them too, so I'm not quite sure how she managed to get 300g for one mace. So maybe one of the mods is upping the drop rate # or the quality of the items I get. I'm using 15 mods currently, but the only ones I can think of off the top of my head that might be affecting that are either the Auto Loot one, or "Non_replacing." The rest are mostly graphics or small things that are unrelated to items. I'll have to go look.

Huh, apparently that isn't a cheat. I've never actually done GoA. The mace sells for 339.55.00, and is rewarded by defeating the final boss on hard or nightmare.
Dwarven Nobles can sell it to Gorim for 679.10.00, lololol.
As for the other 600g, I have no clue. But seriously, LOOOOOOL. That had to have been a mistake on the Dev's part.
Justice isn't bad but he's a pretty one-note character. He also dies a lot for me.
Did you do the portals quests around Blackmarsh after you got Justice? Those combined quests drop a full suit of armor for him, if I recall. Really helps his survivability.

Speaking of DLC loot, I played through Leliana's Song last night, but forgot to nab the last bit of leather from the Chantry. I didn't realize this until I finished the damn thing, and it was too late to go back. I didn't feel like like replaying the whole thing, so I downloaded a few mods thinking I could use console commands to get it. Unfortunately, I have no idea what the item ID code is for the damn armor, so I still can't get it. I do have significantly more gold now though.

I did the quests. Then I put the armor on my Arcane Mage and gave Justice my old Improved Wade's stuff from DA:O because fuck that guy. If he wants the best armor, let him start his own game.

What? I didn't want to have to do the mage origin story for a fourth time. And that was the only save file for a female mage that started early in the game.

Finished Awakenings. Took a little longer because it was hard to get into so I tended to play in smaller blocks. I saved Amaranthine because I figured a city was worth more than a fort. I don't know if there was a way so save both since my supposed super-awesome granite walls and soldiers didn't help but whatever. Sucks to be them. Anders apparently took an arrow to the neck so that made it worthwhile.
I killed the Architect because fuck you, Darkspawn. My companions were all "This could be an interesting proposition" and I was like "WTF guys? Dark... spawn... It's not my job to reform these guys. Now hit them with sticks already."
It's stupid easy to be over powered. My companions all died pretty early into the Mother fight and I said "Nah, I got this" and soloed her ass.
The game was only paying minimal attention to the game because not even the game found itself that interesting. Half my epilogue remarks didn't apply to me. For instance, I told the commander at Amaranthine to kill the messenger but I got an epilogue statement saying that he was wandering Fereldan as some plague-ridden Robin Hood or some shit.
They hooked me back up with Leliana in the epilogue which was nice. "Hi honey! You won't believe the day I just had..."
Now onward to DA2 I suppose. I'll try to keep an open mind.

Almost done with DA:O now. I finished the elf stuff and I think it's finally time for this Landsmeet thing. I gave Alistair the "yes I love you but you'll be a great king now go marry that Queen lady" talk, and he seemed to take it well. The relationship wasn't really going anywhere anyway. My warden has been the sword and board type, which meant he never was really in the group, and he apparently didn't approve of my Redcliffe choices.
80+ hours and I'm ready to be done with this game already, if only so I can start up again as a rogue.

I tried to install Dragon Age 2 yesterday, just so it's there when I'm ready, and I keep getting this error when it tries to verify the release date or whatever. I checked the bioware forums, and I found this suggestion:
Quote:
User reports suggest that this has to do with Administration privileges. Under Windows 7, you will need to run an elevated command prompt (basically run cmd.exe as administrator). Then you have to enable the hidden built-ina dministrator account for Windows 7 using the following command prompt: "C:\windows\system32>net user administrator active:yes" ...Then log off of your account and log into the built-in administrator account where Dragon Age II should now run successfully. If you need more detailed instructions on the built in administrator go here - http://www.sevenforums.com/tutorials/507-built-administrator-account-enable-disable.html ...Windows Vista is essentially the same process - see http://support.microsoft.com/kb/555910
My brain hurts... I guess I'll try going to that link later on and see if it makes more sense.

Oh and I don't think I'm going to have Alistair marry Anora. Frankly, I completely agree with him when he said that she seems to be too much like Loghain. She knows what needs to be done to fix the country, and she thinks she's the only one who can do it. She may be wicked smart, but her ego is way too big, and that doesn't make for a good leader. If Alistair marries her, she's going to do the exact same thing to him that she did to Cailan, especially given that his confidence still isn't all that high in regards to being king, even after hardening him. He needs to do this on his own.

And that just made it even more awesome, that and they brought it back as a daily.
But seriously, I never had a problem getting anywhere in bear form. Cow riding a Mammoth was another story, still though! I suppose I'm just bitter that the bear almost got me killed in an encounter where he got stuck and everyone piled up behind him and got scattershoted by the enemy archers. I go wolf more now just because of that, but I really like that bear tankiness. You barely even have to heal the thing, even in a long encounter. Just awesome.

I was debating for a while myself. The whole political marriage over love thing seemed like an interesting storyline. I was surprised Alistair seemed to go along with the idea so well (as in increased approval from him) though. I suppose I'm missing out on being queen, but oh well, I'll have to properly romance him properly in a later play though.

Yeah, I think it's dumb that you have to be a human noble to marry Alistair in the game. I'd be less annoyed if they'd let a human mage be queen as well. But I think that if you harden him, Alistair should stand up for his love and make me queen even if I'm an elf damn it!

My casteless dwarf rogue tried to convince Anora to let him warm her bed at night while she was queen but she said the people wouldn't go for a dwarven consort. Racist bitch.

Now that you mention it, my dwarf nailed two humans and two elves but no female dwarfs.
Also, just to get deep into the weeds, Morrigan felt confident that my dwarf seed would take root in her fertile loam but I haven't seen any other mentions of half-races. Half-species, really.
Edit: Is that even still a spoiler?

That's a matter of Ferelden law. They don't actually have any laws about illegitimate succession--that's more of a modern social thing in the nation. Allistair muddled his claim to the throne by becoming a Grey Warden, not by being a bastard. Technically, Wardens can't hold titles, but the Landsmeet sorta compromises. Alistair doesn't actually become king, he becomes Prince Consort and "resigns" as a Grey Warden.
The laws against Mages holding titles is much stricter, and a Mage can't "resign" as a Mage, so its no surprise that you can't become Queen. They're already stretching the law thin to allow Alistair, no way they're going to stretch it any further, particularly for an Elven or Mage Queen. That would just be begging for future civil war. The Human Noble actually enhances his position, being the daughter of a highly-respected Teyrn, so it's a completely different story.
As for inter-species children, Elf + Human children appear fully human, so it is seen as a betrayal (there's a very good chance that Alistair is actually the child of an Elven Mage Warden named Fiona, who didn't want Maric to tell Alistair where he came from out of shame for being what she is). It's confirmed, somewhere, that half-Dwarves are possible (but incredibly rare, due to Dwarven cultural prohibitions). Wiki doesn't say anything about half-Dwarf, half-Elf children. I'm going to guess they almost never happen--there are already strong prohibitions against relations outside their cultures on both sides, and these two groups would have far less contact than with Humans.
Yeah, but sometimes you're a dwarf and you're tlaking to some red-haired elf chick about her loser boyfriend and, before you know it, you're deep into the Dalish forest if you know what I mean...

I suppose that makes sense, but it's still irritating. I guess I'll have to break up with him and see if I can get Leliana interested in me again. If not her, then I could always go for the man slut.
And Oghren called me ugly the other day. I was pretty put off by that. This is not an ugly face. Oh well, he's got weird taste as a dwarf I suppose.

Keeping an open mind about the action-y combat and "Pick a vague response and we'll tell you what you really said" conversation wheel but Flemeth with leather armor and horn-hair isn't helping

I'm actually a big fan of the two default models, but I might download one of the mods that lets you edit them. Right now it's all or nothing. Would be interesting to experiment with some of the features.
Yeah, I would have liked to change the hair or something but I noticed you can't edit the default. I have a particular look/name I usually go with for my first play-throughs in these sorts of games so I had to start from scratch.

There are ways to avoid being forced to choose between one or the other with Alistair and Leliana. It wasn't intended by design, but its possible without mods. So you can end up as his mistress, and then also be in a relationship with Leliana.
Nobles can also marry for purely political reasons and keep their romances on the side. I don't think Leliana needs to be hardened, either. Morrigan will end the relationship anyway. And Zevran obviously wouldn't have an issue with that.
As for Alistair, obviously not, because only male characters can marry Anora.
Can't speak for the Y side, but the female snarky/sarcastic answers are almost always the way to go for lulz.
Male snarky is the best, IMO. Especially when talking to the Count(or whatever his title was) after his son dies. Aveline calling you on it was hilarious too.

Yeah, I had already @#%^ed that up, so the only way for me to get involved with Leliana again would be to end it with Alistair. I probably could have managed starting up an affair with Zevran before I finished the game, but ah well. I'll let my dwarf princess be the slut. But yeah, just finished beating the game, so yay! I ended up choosing to go along with Morrigan's idea, and that was... interesting to say the least. I almost thought they were going to let me watch there for a second. Do you ever hear anything about the consequences of that decision in Awakenings or DA2?

No, but at the end of DA2 the child would only be 10 or so. Maybe in DA3!
I'd bet a lot of money that Flemeth and Morrigan are key players in DA3, particularly because the comics have recently vastly expanded the lore on Witches of the Wild.

Speaking of, in DA2, my character escapes Lotherin, gets carted to the sea, takes a boat to K-whatever and joins the mercenary company. During the year I'm with them, the Blight is ended by my DA:O character.
In DA:O, my mage leaves the tower, fights at Ostegar, gets rescued by Flemeth, goes to Lotherin (here DA2 starts) and then the Mage Tower and picks up Wynne. When we're back in camp, Wynne says it's been year since I left the Tower. So that's a year between the start of the game and finishing the first major "treaty" quest. Then I have to do Redcliff, Orzammar, etc etc all leading up to the final battle and that's not even counting Warden's Keep & the village with Shale.
(A) This makes me wonder how long I was in recovery at Flemeth's. The only way the time would work would be if most of that year was spend in a coma since... (B) You could say most of the time was taken up in travel but Redcliff to Denerim is around three or four days given the march at the end to save the city. I didn't eat up a full year walking back and forth across Ferelden. (C) I'm not actually worried about it. I just found it interesting. The obvious answer is no one worried about it when writing DA2.

Well, you flee Lothering when it has already been destroyed, more or less. So that marks the start of the journey as the point where the Warden first completes one of the major mission objectives. Then, you have to get to Gwaren, in the far Southeast, take ship, and sail to Kirkwall. The year of service starts there, and you don't know how long after getting out of service the rest of the Act takes place. I'm guessing it's not the next day, but more like a month.
You can probably figure, then, that the Warden has completed two objectives by the time you even leave the nation. You also know that, by the time you arrive in Kirkwall, they had been taking in refugees for months. People probably didn't start fleeing until after Ostagar, and it probably took time for the Hawke family to actually get on a boat.
In game, the Archdemon is defeated in the same year Hawke's expedition launches, so you can imagine the blight has only been over a short while.
The bigger issue is that the conversation with Wynne wasn't actually triggered by progressing a certain amount into the story, but by completing a specific check. If you complete the Mage Tower last, Wynne still says its been a year.
Yeah, like I said. I don't think they sweated the potential for messed up chronology. After all, in theory I could spend "five years" just doing laps around the country if I wanted to, just visiting Denerim, Orzammar, Redcliff, Flemet's hut and back to Denerim. Wouldn't make sense, but I could.
