Well i didn't say she was an expert, but she could know a lot more than most about it. Really have no idea what she does in her free time. She could be some type of economics junky and reads book after book after book about it. Saying she has no idea what she is talking about because she is a SAHM who doesn't need to work and the family has millions of dollars is pretty speculative.

Hell for all we know the entire romney family monetary situation could entirely be her doing. Hubby works, she handles the money.

Non news is stupid news, this story screams yahoo headliner.


No, she rides dressage horses in her spare time. This was confirmed by Romney himself in the leaked Fox interview excerpt.


Disregarding the fact that rdm has no idea what he's talking about, horsebackriding is not a hobby that takes all your free time.

And if she's managing to do it while having MS, I really respect her for it. Having a rather good idea what MS is like, she's battling through enormous physical difficulty to hang on to something in her life that gives it meaning.

I know that what Mitt Romney said was pure political rhetoric. But by invoking her name in a rhetorical context while campaigning for Presidential office, he himself has made her a political subject for public scrutiny.

Yeah. Some are jumping on that comment (OMG! It was "leaked" after all, so it must be something they want to hide), but it's not like dressage is just something done by the idle rich. My sister does it, and is far far far from rich. Her husband works for one of the shipbuilding companies here in town, which is about as blue collar as it gets. She earns some money on the side teaching guitar part time.

It's asinine, but it's just one symptom of a larger problem. It happened to Obama too, when he mentioned "arugula lettuce" and people took it as a sign that he was an elitist for suggesting that Americans eat anything besides good old iceburg. Arugula, aka rocket lettuce, has been an American salad staple for a couple centuries, but it just sounds all fancy pantsy.

Romney just doesn't understand how "little people" live, and he probably never will. Does it automatically mean he'll be a bad president? Of course not. Most presidents have come from the upper echelons of society since the country was founded.

I think Romney needs a Biden-type to bring him back to earth, though. Biden was the poorest Senator when he was tapped for VP. He rode the Amtrak and the Metro into DC every day so he could be with his kids in their suburban house in the evenings (because he couldn't afford that size house in DC proper.)

So he needs to find a moderately successful Republican who wasn't born with a silver spoon, and for whom store bought cookies are the norm. Ideally someone in the 98th percentile instead of the 99th one. If he picks another rich dynastic Richie Rich just like himself, he'll have twice the awkward comments and moments and twice the eye rolls from liberals.
