Sounds like some one is jealous. To be quite frank Id wager it is possible Ann Romney does know a lot about economics. I mean she is at home with her children, that is lots of time to watch/read/listen to economic information. (yes that is speculation).

It's enough time to read about medicine too but I still wouldn't let her operate on me on that basis Smiley: grin

Well i didn't say she was an expert, but she could know a lot more than most about it. Really have no idea what she does in her free time. She could be some type of economics junky and reads book after book after book about it. Saying she has no idea what she is talking about because she is a SAHM who doesn't need to work and the family has millions of dollars is pretty speculative.

Hell for all we know the entire romney family monetary situation could entirely be her doing. Hubby works, she handles the money.

Non news is stupid news, this story screams yahoo headliner.

No, she rides dressage horses in her spare time. This was confirmed by Romney himself in the leaked Fox interview excerpt.

Disregarding the fact that rdm has no idea what he's talking about, horsebackriding is not a hobby that takes all your free time.

And if she's managing to do it while having MS, I really respect her for it. Having a rather good idea what MS is like, she's battling through enormous physical difficulty to hang on to something in her life that gives it meaning.

I know that what Mitt Romney said was pure political rhetoric. But by invoking her name in a rhetorical context while campaigning for Presidential office, he himself has made her a political subject for public scrutiny.

just putting it out there, as a stay at home mom by choice, most SAHM's are in charge of budgeting money and learning how to pinch a penny. We gotta keep those bon bons coming in somehow.

If Romney has his wife in charge of their mega millions, he's doing it wrong.

she's not buying the bon bons, is she?

I'd ask what you meant then by "your fiance" but, that's right... Mormon. Gonna need a bigger stable for all those dressage horses for your wives.

Although, you're going to want another "e" on there unless you're polyga-ma-gay-marrying or something.

Yeah. Some are jumping on that comment (OMG! It was "leaked" after all, so it must be something they want to hide), but it's not like dressage is just something done by the idle rich. My sister does it, and is far far far from rich. Her husband works for one of the shipbuilding companies here in town, which is about as blue collar as it gets. She earns some money on the side teaching guitar part time.

I also found the whole equal pay Walker connection outrage incredibly weak and contrived. I particularly love these bits:

Quote:
Initially, it did not seem that the Romney campaign cared to answer. But that changed this morning when Huffington Post journalist Sam Stein asked during a conference call whether Romney supports the Lilly Ledbetter Fair Pay Act, the first bill signed into law by President Obama. The Romney aide’s answer: “Sam, we’ll get back to you on that.”

Then... two paragraphs later:

Quote:
Romney’s campaign did eventually confirm that Romney “supports pay equity and is not looking to change current law” but the damage was already done.

What damage? The damage between "this morning" and when you wrote the article later that day? Um... wow. That really is a long time to get an answer from a candidate. Oh wait. No. It really isn't.

I keep the wives in the stable as well. Efficiency!

Ah, truthfully I didn't realize that the different spellings corresponded to different meanings. And I wonder why everyone thinks I'm a girl. Smiley: lol

Someone must be getting scared of Romney if they're going this far to paint him badly. This is asinine.

It took a while to get past the fact the article said "today at 10:13am" and it was only 8:50am when I started reading it.

The future is now! Smiley: yikes

I liked their article on how much he likes firing people. Apparently he doesn't love it as much as was expected.

I like to imagine the two ends of the meter to go from "I can't even leverage all these asset classes" to "I just filed my taxes, and paid 13.8%"

It's asinine, but it's just one symptom of a larger problem. It happened to Obama too, when he mentioned "arugula lettuce" and people took it as a sign that he was an elitist for suggesting that Americans eat anything besides good old iceburg. Arugula, aka rocket lettuce, has been an American salad staple for a couple centuries, but it just sounds all fancy pantsy.

Romney just doesn't understand how "little people" live, and he probably never will. Does it automatically mean he'll be a bad president? Of course not. Most presidents have come from the upper echelons of society since the country was founded.

I think Romney needs a Biden-type to bring him back to earth, though. Biden was the poorest Senator when he was tapped for VP. He rode the Amtrak and the Metro into DC every day so he could be with his kids in their suburban house in the evenings (because he couldn't afford that size house in DC proper.)

So he needs to find a moderately successful Republican who wasn't born with a silver spoon, and for whom store bought cookies are the norm. Ideally someone in the 98th percentile instead of the 99th one. If he picks another rich dynastic Richie Rich just like himself, he'll have twice the awkward comments and moments and twice the eye rolls from liberals.

I doubt that late night talk show hosts will really that kind of additional material when they'll already have Romney.
