Is there any censoring/oversight of people's avatars? (The picture you can get under your name as a premium member). I for one would really like to see some sort of standard of decency enforced if one is not in place already. I love Allakazham and have really tried to get involved and help the community here. I (sadly) realize that it many (perhaps most) of the people on here are not offended by sexually perverse avatars. But frankly I am deeply sickened by the constant perversity of many of them on the FF XI boards, I am sure others are as well. Alienone and Sheebasaurus (sp?) rotate blow-up doll ************* abusively bonded, striping, etc. etc. teddy bears- we've got one poster (who's name escapes me) with the "Frodo/Sam/Gollum" oral sex clip splice, and now we have to look at Reaperttk's picture of a little red devil anally raping a penguin? Dressing this filth up in a thin veneer of "humor" by making it cartoonish is only all the more disgusting to people with the maturity to realize that rape is not some joke. The fact that you administrators have not already taken action is as disgusting as the pictures are themselves.

I hope my frank language helps drive home the reality of the offensive material that is being allowed. I am just trying to call it as it is. I suppose that the same people who laugh at the people around the AH shouting {hand} {inside} {trousers} {I'm playing solo right now} and {hundred fists} {up} {Mithra} {hole} laugh at the above avatar pics, but I report players like that to the GMs in FF XI and will follow a similar tactic here. Squareenix has the sense to disciple players whose actions are offensive, just like our government regulates the media to avoid pornography and filth coming into the lives of those who do not chose to poison themselves with it. It is time for you to do the same. I am very glad that your service has a similar system of user feedback where I can express my opinions. As administrators I hope that you can understand that for every person that gets a kick out of the above examples, there is another who is repulsed by them. I am sure this thread would invite a rousing and flame filled discussion on any of the regular boards. Frankly, I may have to find another FF XI resource if I have to be exposed to the worst sexual filth people can fit in a cartoony frame just to read forums here.

I have always been very pleased at how conscientious the administrators are here- particularly in supporting FF XI's Terms of Service and Code of Conduct (witnessed by your strict action against anything promoting bots and/or gil buying). I find your ethics in this regard commendable, and the MMORPG community you have built here incredibly vibrant, helpful and engaging. In order to make it even more enjoyable you, as administrators, need to have the courage to take your moderation of an already outstanding site further by censoring perverse and repulsive avatars.

Thank you for the time and attention you have shown in reading this, please forgive my tone if it was too harsh. I only meant to convey my points with enough force to jar you into a new mode of thinking if necessary. I sincerely hope that you have the insight and courage to take appropriate action.

Was that really neccessary? It's JUST a picture at the corner of a poster's post...big deal on WHAT it is. I mean really...I don't think anyone is dieing from it, no one's eyes are burning, and no angels have lost their wings.

We're all adults here (most of us, and I'm not speaking in reference to age, but maturity), just allow yourself to have a chuckle here and there. Yes, it's perverse humor...so what?

Be a little less self absorbed and just allow people to live their lives.

We remove avatars if they get lots of complaints or are way over the top, otherwise we leave them alone.

Maybe it is just me, but I think the avatar's are cute. Sometimes the topics get a little out of ahnd, but overall the site does a great job. I would try the avatar blocker.

Personally, I love the bears out of ALL avatars on this site. My personal favorite is the one with the sheep. ^_^

Hi^^ Welcome to the internet.

I've been wondering what that was. Thanks for the clarification. :)

Yes, you are correct. This topic, or any topic dealing with Censorship, would be a walking flamefest covered in flaming dog poo only to be put out by dumping gasoline on it. The reason for this is because who the hell are you to say what I can see online. There is nothing "indecent" about a teddy bear in leather and chains(man i love those bears^^, wait is that indecent too?)

Ahh....That was so nice! I kinda of thought hands in your pants or blow up bear were cute too. Hard to pick a favorite, the surprise element is the catcher.

I know that the everquest palette for journal forums has the option to hide avatars. There is no doubt a similar option under development for the normal forums on all branched of this site.

And for the record, if it was oral sex, I think Frodo would have noticed at some point that it wasn't Sam.

I always thought it was oral sex. Smiley: lol Anything else wouldn't be as funny! XD

I love all the Avatars. ^^ Speaking of Avatars...

Hey, Lady, I played and beat Lunar (forgot exact name of the game, it's in reference to "Hear Luna Sing" in your siggy.)

I was wondering, was the sequal any good? I loved that game, but never played the one that came after.

I would put it up, but i don't want it in the rest of my posts. Is there any way to keep it constrained to this thread? I didn't think so. :(

You could say that it's your temporary avatar in reference to this thread in your siggy and link here? Smiley: tongue

Dear Lord that's disgusting!

On a side note, my current avatar is from the movie Legend, and yes, Lunar: Eternal Blue rocked. In Lunar 2, the church of Althena is generally feared as well as revered and functions in sort of the same way as the church in Breath of Fire 2, and Ghaleon's back to kick even more *** than before... though I'd hate to spoil his part of the story.

Let's not forget that we pay to use our avatars. That's why your complaint alone isn't going to to much.

Are you using IE6 to browse the internet? If so, you can solve this problem by clicking on the Tools menu, and then going to Internet Options... click on the Advanced tab in the Intrnet Options, and then take the check out of Show Pictures in the Multimedia section, and press OK. Then Refresh your page.

Of course that's like telling someone to turn on their /shout filter in-game because they don't want to hear one person yelling a conversation. Personally, I'd suggest waiting for the Hide Avatar checkbox to be addes to the forum options in the FFXI view.
