In this thread, thesyndicate is pushing a program he wrote to "enhance" final fantasy. He's charging $10 for it, and it very vague about what it really does. (though, we know it tries to access the internet when you install it ... for "piracy prevention")

I'm just wondering if it's OK for people to post these kind of threads to advertise their own 3rd party software that you have to pay for.

Hmmm... Doesn't sound bogus, but if you have any free time and feel like using your l33t hax0r skillz Kaolian, would you mind checking and seeing if this is free of all bad things?

From what I understand, it violates the FFXI EULA. He's making money off of Square's program

the program itself seems to be legit from the standpoint that it doesn't include viruses and or trojans, and it doesn't steel account info.

Whether it violates the FFXI EULA, i don't know. basically it's a tweak program for graphics fixes and whatnot. But he is trying to sell it too. You could argue either way i'd imagine. Someone should ask squareenix what they think.

Alla makes money off of information.

What whoever is doing this is doing is making money off of modifications to FFXI

Thanks for looking into it, guys.

And, well, I guess he found a way to pay Allakhazam! So it's not ... technically ... free advertising ;)

In general I don't have a problem with people posting about legitimate sites in the forums, unless they get overly aggressive about it. I know when I was getting started, I posted links to our site on every forum I could, so it wouldn't be right if I didn't let others post here. However, we don't tolerate dollar for plat/gil sites or sites that clearly violate the game eula, or sites that could do potential harm to their visitors.

I locked it because the guy was starting to flame a bunch of different people. If he wants to flame, that's one thing, but flaming people while mooching advertising doesn't mix. plus there were reports that the guy was using some rather shady base code.
