On Saturday January 24th, Amazon will make its excellent original series Transparent free to stream, even for those without Amazon Prime. More importantly though, Amazon is discounting Amazon Prime, the best deal in tech at $99, to $72 for the day. Prime is basically never discounted, and $72 is cheaper than the previous $79 that the service went for for years.

Basically get it if you don't have it but want it, or gift it to yourself on the day after your current membership expires if you already have it.

Just FYI, I had to go through "Give the gift of Prime" to get the discounted $72 rate. The "Upgrade to Prime" button still showed $99.

At $6 a month it's worth it for just the movies or worth it for just the shipping -- assuming you order a bit; Christmas alone makes it worth it for us. Plus, when you buy something Prime eligible, you can opt to NOT use the two-day shipping and get reward credit towards Kindle books or MP3s. I got something like ten bucks worth of credit when I bought most of my gifts right after Thanksgiving and (a) bought each separately thus getting a credit on each and (b) ordered well enough in advance that shipping time didn't matter. As it turns out, they just packed them all into the same couple boxes anyway.

Plus if you know other people who just want the free two day shipping, you can add them as one of the four "family members" you can share your Prime with.

It is $99 a year? I thought I paid something like $80 a year >.>

Amazon Prime is the best thing I've invested in. I buy soooooo much through amazon.
Having another place to check for movies is nice too (sometimes A.P will have stuff Netflix does not :D)

Nice to see some joined the A.P family. Hope you enjoy.

You all know about the Amazon Echo? Its odd, I signed up on release...I get mine in April T.T
Not sure if you can, but if it is something you would use or think about, might want to opt in as it is/was a Prime deal 1st.

Price was 79 a year. As already said :)

Then they increased it. Previous users still got the 79 dollar price tag for a period of time (still?).

It was $79 until they jacked up the price last year. Anyone that did the same trick that I mentioned at the top was able to buy a few more years at the lower price.
