Anime for an 11 year old girlFollow

Show her Urotsukidoji or however you spell it.

DragonBall Z is good for all genders, although with all the bulging muscles and grunting - I believe it might have strong gay overtones.

On a more serious note, I rather enjoyed Nodame Contabile.

It's about a guy who wants to be a famous conductor, but he's afraid to leave Japan because his parents died in a plane crash. His girlfriend is a *****, and he meets his neighbor and fellow student Noda Megumi(Nodame for short).

Nodame is a very ****** girl, I think. Depending on how you define ******. She doesn't shower or clean her house, but she's not at all promiscuous or anything like that. She and Chiaki have an odd relationship. here is very little action in this anime. It's pretty much all about music, orchestras, and piano as well as the relationship between Chiaki and Nodame.

Sailor Moon, Pokemon, Digimon, Magic Knights Rayearth, Magical Girl S, Adventures of the mini Goddesses, Slayers, Nuku, Nuku, and maybe Inyu-Yasha.

She really doesn't like the cutsie stuff all that much, she'd prefer a serious action over baby stuff.

Nausicaä of the Valley of the Wind.

This. Get her the manga first though, it's even better.

Slayers, Inuyasha, Read or Die, Trigun, Sailor Moon & Bleach all have strong female characters with prominent/leading roles.

@ 11, she might not be ready for Eva, but I think she might be for Cowboy Bebop.

(But I'm sure she'll cry like a little girl (too) @ the end).

Cowboy Bebop.

If you are trying to scare her off anime, try showing her the one with tentacle monsters.

Also, Samurai Champloo. It's quite clever and a more central female character. I know it's probably blasphemy, but I really like Samurai Champloo more than Cowboy Bebop, though I liked them both muchly.

Start her off with some Miyazaki.

Castle in the Sky should work rather well. If she wants more action Princess Mononoke and Nausicaa of the Valley of the Wind would do nicely.

Well did she try to watch the english dub or the subs? Everybody should hate the dub. :p

Maybe some Rurouni Kenshin, Wolf's Rain, Eureka Seven, Gundam Wing, Gundam Seed, Read or Die, Trigun?

If you could describe or list the types of shows/books she is into that might help. If you have any concerns about how age appropriate something is then please voice your concerns.

Some suggestion's:
Kino's Journey - Female protagonist (who looks like a guy), stories with more maturity and depth, little light on action.
Code Geass - Male protagonist, but it has a very broad appeal. A very active series I think she will like.
Fullmetal Alchemist - Male protagonist (who looks like a girl), broad appeal, and active story.
Princess Tutu - If you think she might enjoy magical girl and slightly more cutesy stuff this might be a good series for her.
Trigun - The animation stands up well, and there is a good amount of action.
Full Metal Panic: Fumoffu - A prominent female lead, comical, and short.

She might like Fruits Basket if she is ok with a cuter, less action oriented series. Digimon could be hit or miss, but usually works with male kids in that age group.

I don't think Azumanga Daioh or Lucky Star would be good to show. They are targeted at a completely different demographic, and if she doesn't enjoy the jokes then she is going to be very bored. I honestly think too many people skimmed over the "eleven year old," part of your post.

If you find yourself believing she may like a particular show I suggest you read the Wikipedia and Anime News Network descriptions to find more about the series.

Probably should watch the first season first.

The most prominent bit of the first season that I remember is Chidori saying "Bye Bye Hentai-san!". Then the scene that happened after that.

Fumoffu doesn't require previous knowledge of the series beyond "Sosuke is a soldier, and he is protecting Chidori." It's an episodic series with no overarching plot.

I'd recommend Kodomo no Omocha or Keroro Gunso (Sgt. Frog). Keroro Gunso is quite popular in Japan nowadays. It appeals to a broad audience and is generally inoffensive.

Some people may laugh, but I'd suggest Little Snow Fairy Sugar. It's definitely a cutesy anime, and my 4 year old niece loves it.
