Anime for an 11 year old girlFollow

#1 Aug 10 2008 at 8:10 AM Rating: Good
As much as I hate knowing my little sister likes Anime, I don't know exactly what she can watch and what she can't. Her favorite 2x Anime movies are Paprika and Spirited Away, so I think she generally goes for the female main character.

Any shows or movies that she might enjoy would be cool for recommendations.

She'd probably like Card Captor Sakura, Magical Girl Lyrical Nanoha, and Full Moon wo Sagashite, assuming she'll like magical girl anime.

I tried, trust me. There's only so many horror movies I'm comfortable showing her. Just last month she saw my copy of House of 1000 Corpses and noticed Rob Zombie directed it and she had asked to watch it.

Pokémon. Just put Pokémon on.

I might have to go with Gooose on this one. I simply don't understand the fascination. Sure, the well-drawn and more "realistic" looking animes like, uhm, what's the anime called where they travel space or something?

But still, most animes I've seen had a script written by an Asian dude on some serious drugs. Gives the word "abstract" a whole new meaning.

I think she would prefer something that feels a little older, and maybe has a little more action.

well I guess at 11 years old it's ok to like anime but at a certain age you'll have to step in to prevent her from growing up to be like vataro

Just so you know, anime doesn't work the same way for girls as it does for guys.

Which is to say that she still may lose her virginity some day.

She can't ******* stand Naruto either, she's the best.

It's funny because I started playing Pokemon Diamond again a few days ago.

She'd probably like Miyazaki's other films too. (All the US release titles)

Howl's Moving Castle
Princess Mononoke
Kiki's Delivery Service
Laputa: Castle in the Sky

There's also one called The Cat Returns from Studio Ghibli. It's basically the Nutcracker. But with a cat instead of a toy soldier.

Here's an ok list: Studio Ghibli movies.

It made me laugh, there's a guy at work who has 8 kids, and he brings a GBA to work and plays pokemon during lunch and break.

We've seen those all, I actually own all the ones you listed + the cat returns. (lol) BUT! Paprika and Spirited Away are her favorites.

My Cousin recently started showing interest in anime and manga. Shes somewhere between 13 and 15, I can't remember. I let her borrow some of my old manga to read.

Azumanga Diaoh
Kodomo no Omocha (Kodocha, Sana's Stage)

She seems to have liked them.

(Ya, I know it's wierd for a guy to have the complete Kodocha series.)

The last couple episodes really throw you for a loop though. You get lost in all the cuteness and forget about the real stuff until the end.

Can never go wrong with Magical Girl anime, just make sure you watch which ones you get as some are rather...creepy to put it lightly. Or in other words, it would be fapping material for Usagi.

Give Lucky Star or Azumanga Daioh a shot. Both are good anime, though Lucky Star takes some getting into before you can really enjoy it. Does she have a preference in terms of type of anime? If you want an old title, nothing beats Macross.

I second Anna on the Fruits Basket. Female main, cute story.

I have this. You could buy her that, too. The little pouch in the back is just big enough for a flask and a pack of smokes. Smiley: nod
