Awesome. He's from the FFXI Forums.

Maybe it lists you as a member of the team when you complete a unit?

Yes, since it only knows you've joined a team when you upload a completed work unit, since the unit goes in marked with your name and team on it.

Only my one apartment pc, but its relatively new and decently powerful. So aside from the crazy quad video card posters I know on here I think I should be finishing a lot of simulations. The only problem is a I tend to run a lock of background processes.

Does your name pop up on the list after you finish your first project?

Yea, after you finish your first WU (block) your name goes on the team list. I'll be keeping a list in my Journal or you can check it directly from my Sig.

ahh, well just added my intel iMAC to the list.

here are the specs of my 4 boxes:

laptop = P4 mobile 256M ram 1800 runs 100% of the time with 99% folding being the ONLY application running.

workstation/game box: amd 939 chip X2 3800+ 2G ram. runs about 60 - 70% of the month. only time it is not running folding in the background is when i need to do video editing and some times when i swap over to windows to play some games.

iMAC G5: last of the G5 iMACs and it is the 20in vs. only 1G ram and forget the clock speed of the CPU. this one will run the least amount of folds. i use this for playing videos out the display window at my second school. so unless i am at the school (only about 10 - 20 hrs a week) it is not folding.

iMAC Intel: 2.2G dual core duo with 1G ram. this one will be running 24/7 now that i have reset the folding to run all the time instead of just as a part time app.

if i get time this weekend i will work on getting one or more of my older computers back up and running to do folding 24/7 as well.

the 3 rigs i have that are off line right now are:

P4 2.4G 800Mhz FSB with 2G ram
AMD athlon 800 with 1G ram
AMD Athlon 1200 with 1G ram

all 3 will be running linux and using the CLI vs, but not 100% if i will be able to get any of them up and running. depends on if i can afford to replace their failing hardware.

I'm in for my work machine.

I ran SETI@Home for years. I was really close to hitting the 10,000 unit milestone when they switched over to that BOINC interface, which I absolutely hated.

Yeah, I started using SETI@home back in 1999 or so and ran it for years.

BOINC was this framework developed by some Berkely folk for generic distributed processing projects like SETI@home, protein folding, prime number calculation, etc. A few years ago SETI@home moved to this framework and stopped supporting the older client.

My main gripe with BOINC was that you couldn't just turn the processing on or off. You had to set up some predefined schedule that was all remotely controlled by the server. I do software development so sometimes I need to turn off extra crap for high-performance, CPU-bound stuff so I couldn't run BOINC.

I don't know if this is a demonstration of how powerful a PS3 is compared to my file server but here are my stats:

File Server:
AMD 3700+ Processor
Folding running 100% of the CPU
WU Time for task completion: 31 days

PS3:
Cell Processor
Folding running ?% of the CPU
WU Time for task completion: 5 hours Smiley: jawdrop

yeah when the PS3 came out and folding went after the combined power of the CPU and GPU it is fully optimized as you know exactly what the hardware is. very nice.

i added my PS3 this morning. too bad you can't carry over the work units you've already done. i'll add my main PC this evening if i remember.
