I'm not too stoked about it... unless the -magic dmg taken can go beyond the 50% cap, what good is it? You cap out w/ a Shell5 merited to level 3 I believe as it is... which will be any party with a whm this day and age as merits are too easy to come by. The augments shield bash dmg needs to be legendary really for it to matter.

If I had to guess based on the other updated to like QD and Counter on relics I'm thinking Shield Bash IV will be in the 700-800 range on average. Right now I average about 560 so guessing the damage might scale along the lines of 610 (II) -> 670 (III) -> 740 (IV) averages with blunt weak mobs going as high as 1K.

Time to head back into Dynamis over the holidays.

Anyone actually get 90 aegis yet? Haven't seen any info on it yet. Can anyone post bash numbers please?

3 more Goublefaupe kills left but I'm estimating a 5% increase over 85 version since that seems to be all it is each upgrade.

Aegis upgrade confirmed for next major update.

It will still fail. PLD will still be a redundant job.

Either a) increase CE cap, or b) make mobs nasty again [i.e. high leve mobs and thus level correction penalty, or just pure nasty mobs so DD+WHM can't tank everything.]

Otherwise PLD is still c) a sh!tty DD job.

But it's a sh!tty DD job that uses a sword and a shield and wears sparkling white armor!!!! Who WOULDN'T want to pose doing that?

Seriously, though, the more I think about this, the more it irks me. Aegis is already pretty much capping MDT now. Increasing MDT won't help in the slightest, unless they up the cap while using Aegis or put it in its own Magic Damage Taken component in the formula. A CE cap raise would certainly help, but I think I finally agree with others who think that it might be too much. Instead, as a compromise, give PLD a VE cap increase (it seems to be what we specialize in, anyway), but have any VE over the normal cap decay faster. It would be nice if it scaled with level, as well, so that we could get more out of it as we got higher in level, thus helping hold hate longer against the DD's. As VE, we couldn't maintain it nearly as well as a CE cap would do. It might even be possible to add in a CE cap increase as a new merit category when we hit 99 - each merit increases cap by 500 or so, but the ability only lasts for 30 seconds per upgrade. Assuming similar patterns in the new merits, we could get something that was usable every 10 minutes and would increase the cap by 2500 for 2:30. Would be overkill, sure, but I can think of a number of people that would at least put some points into it.

I'm still disappointed that SE hasn't come through for PLD. It was the first job I fell in love with. And yet, despite the nostalgia, I think MNK is going to hit 90 before PLD does. And it was 37 as of a week ago.

It really comes down to how many people you are doing things with and what you use it for. In abyssea PLD still has it is uses. The for most of is holding mobs with no or little support. For example:

What PLD excels at now holding mob. For example while NOT trying to kill a mob when you need to get !!. MNKs don't hold mobs while backwards tanking very well and A good monk is going to be killing the mob to keep hate to hold it. Good NINs have this issue less but still have it.

In abyssea A well geared PLD with the right gear and subjob can solo hold most mobs and not get easily killed. Add a WHM and a PLD can basically not be killed except to a move that can one shot you or doom that is not removed.

Basically PLD in 5/5 Empy +2 and Aegis has become the new RDM that can solo about anything but takes forever to do it.

Curious has anyone seen wtf Augments "Shield Bash" IV do?

Does SB now do 2k? or somethign worthwile?

Nothing exciting. On mobs neutral to blunt damage I sit at about 535-560. Not done any real testing to see if it affects stun effectiveness or duration.
