Hey guys, long time reader first time poster... I am returning to FF XI after about 5 years lol.
My wife is going to be running a RDM and I am a little unsure what would be best to run with her so that we can not only level fast but be able to duo a lot of the content.
I'm the kind of player I really don't care what i play as long as I get to play :). Do you guys have any suggestions on what I should run? Any suggestions would be welcome, Thanks for your help!

Static Duo Partner for RDMFollow
Any DD is a good choice, I personally found DRG to be a fun duo job, especially if you go /mage. Other decent choices are DNC and BLU. BLM would be a good choice if you go the nuke route (check ffxiclopedia for the BLM solo guide). Really anything goes well with a RDM. Could even do RDM/NIN + WHM/NIN and clear a lot of content, and of course there is always the option of 2x RDM. But ya RDM works well with anything since it can be a primary healer for a straight balls out DD (see DRK Zerk+SE+LR bitchslap fest) it can be a melee to work alongside a weaker DD such as a DNC or BLU, or it can be a nuker with a BLM or SCH.

Far as level-grinding goes, I agree that any DD-based job would be the best choice. My friend in particular plays SAM and we have great synergy. We have an even greater synergy when he goes on BLU though, but that requires Refresh for it to be truly be good.
For content-based events (I assume missions/quests), my top three picks would be BLU, NIN, or another RDM. With good gear and enough strategy, two RDMs can rip through any content that's realistic.

Thank you to you both, I will be trying out both RDM and BLU to see what goes together better with her RDM

Blu will take a long time to get your spells...its a fun choice but can be very frustrating getting those spells (get the af gloves they help a lot). Plus you are a giant TP feeder.
Mnk is always a nice choice seeing as its got some serious counter/subtle blow going on so less panic healing etc. A mnk friend and I are always duoing a lot of things and we pretty much rip stuff up.
Dnc is another nice choice to have but will have to be geared properly if you want to beast things.
If you are rich you could do nin, cor,pup or rng...those being the 4 most expensive jobs to play.
Drg, bst, smn are decent jobs for their added npc bonus...hey 3 is better than 2 any day.
War is nasty now a days given the fact that they have a nice and powerful aoe ws that can take mobs out like butta.
Pld can be fun....but if you dont gear right will take years to kill anything...of course your Defensive capabilities are sick though.

Sam can be a serious powerhouse as well.
Thf can evade damn near everything and get your monies as well :o

I currently main rdm. My buddy and I have been playing for a few months after a 6 year break. We duo as rdm/blm/nin and bst/whm/nin, depending on the situation. We are both at 90 and we can rip through pretty much anything with his pets. I play the usual support role buffing/debuffing/healing/crowd control and some damage. We zoomed to 90 in Aby and now just go around killing place holders for NM's and skillups.
We both have the ability to solo, but the combination of us together is killer. With BST there are certain pets and gear that allow you to have TH1 or TH2, I'm not sure.
So I think a perfect fit for a rdm is a bst. Think of it more as a trio, and if you both level up your NPC's you could be 1 short of a full party. Its a win win.
