So I was curious... Has anybody been thinking about (serious) uses for new subjobs now that we have lvl 80 and DWIV natively? Of course /sam is now much more viable because of it, and we still have the old /nin for shadows and /war now nicer to use as well. But a conversation I had with some linkshell mates, as well as the video of the dnc subbing /whm for more haste for the KSNM at 80 got me wondering if maybe any previously strange subjobs are now alittle more viable?
For example, I played around with /drk on birds outside AU with a pld buddy just for the hell of it. The attack bonus and last resort were pretty fun, but I actually really liked using saber dance and souleater (though, just using souleater was pretty fun too with full haste gear and haste samba) - since I could cure myself after popping off saber or just without worrying about the HP penalty.
You also get afew nice spells such as stun, Bio II and the absorb line of spells - eventually getting absorb TP and loloccult accumen.
So does this make drk a viable or even a situational subjob? I can't really say, as there are afew glaring flaws I can see already. For example it places more priority on healing ourselves moreso than healing any of the party or alliance. Also, because we would be using drk as a sub, odds are we wouldn't have the skill to make any of the enfeebles affected by dark magic to be all that viable (though i'm honestly not sure how the absorb spells work).
There would also be an issue of mp as well. While this could just mean using aspir samba more often (gasp!) we would of course, be cutting off our use of the more useful haste samba. Even though we would have aspir too, unless you go the pastok route and get an excelcies ring, even then odds are with such a low skill, it would not give us much return. As a galka this seems like it would be a massive problem for me.
So it seems like /drk would be trading our usual TP efficiency for a flat out (but very large) damage increase when you combine it with what we have as well as our new DW trait.
I'm absolutely not saying that I espouse the use of /drk on dnc! Odds are if it *were* more useful than sam, it would have to be in a duo or low-man event type setting and only when you need a big damage boost (abyssea? idk) It's all just theory and conjecture at this point. I'm just wondering if there were any other subs that would have been strange previously that are now maybe abit more viable?
Just wondering what you guys think of using different and previously odd subjobs for a dnc. Like would MNK be more viable now that we can comfortably dual weild and counterstance as well as its other abilities? How about rdm at 99 for all the defensive spells, haste, refresh and convert, or even Blu for spells like refueling and Jettatura, as well as the plethora of job traits you can get from combining spells? Heck, even /cor could be useful now that Quickdraw is available and since our job has a good deal of agility gear available to us (maybe making those denali jackets *finally* a good macro in for dnc?), and since we can lower the mobs magic evasion it could potentially circumvent the need for elemental staves, as well as getting 1 roll like Store TP or Double attack.
*edit* ohh man I was so excited about the idea of dnc being able to sleep and dispel without mp that I forgot that dancer has no marksmanship skill and thus NO GUNS to make use of QD- but who knows? it's unlikely but maybe they'll add in an all jobs gun just for use of QD as a sub... *shrugs*
Like I said, I'm not saying any of these are better than what we already sub normally, or that they'll even be any good, but I would just like to hear the community's input on the matter. :)
