It's me again: DE helpFollow

Recently just got my WHM to a comfortable level of having good gear. And I've been naughty and working on DNC gear now instead of BLM. Some pieces are borrowed, but I can probably easily get when we fight the HNM's.

I've been using DNC while having help farming for spider webs in Wajoam for leveling clothcraft. Since improving my gear the lowest has been 400. The highest 717 with no food. Steady seems to be 530 - low 600's. In a merit party yesterday it was steady around 543, but no BRD or COR. And I had first hand Behe Knife +1 and off hand Joy. Just got Azoth today and haven't had a chance to try it in a merit party.

Currently my WS macro doesn't change too much from my idle.

Idle is

Azoth - Behe +1 or Joy - Black Tathlum
Walahra Turban - Ancient Torque - Suppa - Brutal
Scorpian +1 - Dusk - Sniper - Ulthalam's
Amemet +1 - Potent Belt (no haste belt..) - Cobra sub - Etoile shoes

Weapon Skill
Top row stays the same
Etoile Tiara, rest stays the same
Etoile Casque, rest stays the same
Warwolf belt, and rest stays the same

My base STR is 62 as mithra, unmerited. With +11 in WS gear.
DEX base is 76, unmerited. With +18 in WS gear.
CHR base is 60, unmerited, and I don't currently have any gear to add to WS, that I'm aware of.
My attack is 45 WS gear, and ACC is 34.

I'm sorry if this is a big idiotic post. But I'm not used to taking WS's seriously (fool around with DD WHM sometimes.. haha). I've tried asking my THF friends, but they have THF for TH only it seems.

I'm asking if my DE's are ok (not laughable), and/or what gear I could adjust to make them even better. Though I'm pretty sure they're at least a little below average.

Thanks in advance~

I'm no expert in the damage formulas, but I hope I can offer some advice.

Firstly: I would advise against using Joyeuse in a merit situation. Your current TP gear simply does not have enough accuracy to make using it worthwhile. Furthermore, inputting more accuracy will get wasted on your dagger. In terms of WS, you are more likely to get consistently low numbers because you are more likely to miss on the off-hand hit (Joytoy). Azoth/BK+1 is a very solid combo.

Secondly: Your WS gear does not have a lot of accuracy. As I'm sure you know, DE gets its damage by getting all the hits to connect. Everything else, i.e. attack, stat mods, etc., needs to supplement the accuracy. The gear you're currently using, I would say, is the sort of gear set you would use if you have Building Flourish active. Outside of it, your damage may suffer a little.

Perhaps you could use pieces of the Enkidu set, e.g. hands/legs/head for DE. Dancer's Tights +1 are extremely sexy for DE. You could probably use Denali legs too. Grab an attack earring to replace Suppa for WS if you don't have something like Hollow. Optical Hat works nicely too. I'm not sure if you have the add-on gear, but they can be tailored to work well with DE, e.g. Anwig Salage with Acc+10 Atk+5 and one of the other attack buffs. (There's not a whole lot of gear DNC can use in the grand scheme of things -- which is good, I suppose!!)

Also, use your Etoile Casaque for TPing too. It has the same accuracy as SH+1 with a whole lot more. :p

Hope that helps? :x

Good morning,

The first thing I want to point out and that you mentioned in your post is that your Dancing Edge damage is not laughable at all.

As Secret said the biggest thing about Dancing Edge as well as many other Multi-hit WS is making sure you are always landing all of your hits. My typical DE returns 13 TP (14 for Double Attack, etc) – so I always make sure I am able to hit this no matter what I am doing on Dancer. So that should be your first priority. You can adjust your gear based on what you have available/want to switch out to make sure you’re consistently hitting your max return mark then start swapping out for STR/DEX/ATK pieces to increase damage.

Using Dagger/Dagger will also (in most cases, never all) increase your overall WS Damage as well if you’re fighting stuff that you are NOT CAPPED ON ACCURACY The additional accuracy you receive from the off-hand dagger will make sure you land the final hit more consistently – which is incredibly important in it’s own right; but you also have to consider that you’ll be able to use Azoth/BK+1 for a nice chunk of attack in your offhand while you Weaponskill.

Another important thing is Merits. Saber Dance and Dagger merits help out tremendously. I personally use 8 Dagger and 8 Sword (because I use Joytoy a lot – but this isn’t about weapon choices) – and increasing your base skill is one of the most important things you can do overall when using a weapon as it will be universal in it’s benefits. So if it’s something you have room for and are interested in – that’s a good investment as well. Dancer is an incredibly accurate one-handed job as well. On top of Accuracy Bonus traits, merits, available gear, etc – I can easily achieve a TP build that allows me to eat meat (which is an excellent goal to strive for) instead of Sushi.

You have some good gear. Looking for the balance of ACC/Other is what you should work towards now. I have an average WS build myself – and my gear is far from excellent or as good as some other active Dancers, but I will list my WS set so you can compare.

Azoth/BK+1 (Joytoy for messing around) – Smart Grenade

Anwig Salade (10ACC, 5ATK) – Peacock Charm – Spike Earringx2

Denali Hands – Mirke Wardecors (10ACC, 3DW) – Sniper’s RIngx2

Forager’s Mantle – Warwolf Belt – Cobra Unit Subligar – Dancer’s toe shoes

Pretty average build if I say so myself. No CoP or ToUA completed yet – can upgrade the earrings but I am focusing on Gil investment/finishing my crafts at the moment which involves a lot of money tied up in materials.

For your own set:

Denali Hands are a great WS (and solo) piece to have – and can be pretty easy to pick up with a little luck if you are interested in Nyzul Island Assault. Otherwise – adjust and tweak as you please – as I can’t really offer advice on gear I don’t have yet.

Good luck and thanks,
