Hi!

A friend of mine is having performance problems with Starcraft 2. He says it starts up just fine on the highest settings, but after a while the framerate drops real low, even if he changes it to the lowest settings. I had him try out speedfan and to send me the results, since it seemed like an overheating problem, and here is what he sent me: http://i.imgur.com/FhnD7.jpg

That's pretty conclusive, right? Definitely an overheating problem with the graphics card? I'm not entirely sure since it's doesn't specifically say it's the video card that's 80C, but eliminating the CPU (Core) and hard drive (HD), that seems to be the case. His card had a TON of dust in it when we opened it. We got it all out, but it seems it's only made a negligible difference in the performance. Would I be correct to assume that his video card is completely shot?

Try spinning the fan on the card by hand and see if it still moves freely. If so, leave the side off while you turn it on and make sure the fan actually spins under its own power. He may have let it get so dusty that it burned out the fan motor or damaged the bearing in it.

Yeah, his video card has a failed or blocked fan. The card itself may be damaged at this point. He should immidiatly discontinue using the computer until the fan can be inspected, and likely either buy a new video card specific fan or a new video card. if its an older card i'd just write it off and upgrade personally.
