GTX580 100% load 86'C for FFXIVFollow

#1 Feb 02 2011 at 7:27 AM Rating: Decent
CPU: 980X (3.8GHz)
Asus Rampage III
6G RAM 1600
OS: Win7 (64bit)

FFXIV is run at 1080p
8xQ MSAA, 10(highest) for General Drawing Quality
others at standard
Ambient Occlusion is OFF

However, in-game, my GPU (i have tried two GTX580 and getting the same results) will be 100% loaded and temperature will rise to 86'C

Same result when i tested with Ungine Heaven
API: Directx 11
Shaders: high
Tessellation: normal
Anisotropy: 16
Anti-aliasing: 8x
1920x1080

Is my configuration and results common for a GTX 580 card?

What is your CPU load during FFXIV when the GPU is at 100%?

Hmm, you have a thousand dollar processor and a five hundred dollar graphics card, but you couldn't drop an extra hundred bucks on more RAM? I'm assuming your going triple channel, which is why you have six, but that's still a bit low.

I have no solution to your overheating issues, I just found your system choices amusing.

The 580 GTX runs fairly hot. 97C is the maximum safe operating temperature. What size monitor are we dealing with here?

Also, FFXIV isn't yet fully optimized for the 580 GTX engine. They had a bit of a tough time tuning it for the 480 GTX, and the 580 GTX introduces some fundamental rendering engine changes that they aren't yet taking advantage of. I would expect to see better performance from the card on FFXIV a few patches in.
