Microsoft Security Essentials (MSE)Follow

Is anyone else having trouble with it? I start up my computer today and I come across an orange icon - saying something about how I might not be protected, update now. So I click to big Update Now button, or something like that, in the MSE console.

Should I be worried? I'm also getting it when I am trying to reinstall MSE, like it told me to. Actually, this screenshot is from the incident when trying to reinstall, but I'm pretty sure it's the same message from before. What should I do?

I also can't find MSE so I can try to fix it from the console. It's not in my Start -> All Programs list, and it's not in my Add/Remove Programs list. I just found my MSE folder in my Program Files, and it's barren...only 1 subfolder and 2 other random files, one of them is a setup.exe, which I tried to run, and it gave me an error saying it didn't have all the pieces, and to re-download from Microsoft..this would normally mean it's already been partially uninstalled or reinstalled?

Anyone know anything about this? I just want advice before I do anything.

I've never seen microsoft security essentials install itself as a Driver before. I do know it can interrupt network communication if it thinks it is out of date though, so it may install as some sort of soft device that ties into the network card maybe? I'd uninstall it, go grab a new copy from microsoft.com that you know is good and reinstall. if it still prompts for a driver then, just go with it I guess? What netwrk card are you running, one of the broadcom cards perhaps?

Yeah, that message you see is part of the hardware installation subsystem. Basically any WHQL signed driver will bypass that part. WHQL certification takes a month or so, even for microsoft so they may have just pushed it out anyways. That must be some sort of supplemental driver that works with a broadcom chip then.
