WoW Induce Internet Crashes (was forum=21)Follow

#1 Oct 27 2010 at 10:47 AM Rating: Default
Ever since the new big patch playing wow seems to cause my internet to crash for all of 10-30 seconds. I only get this when playing wow and not any other MMO or while just surfing the net. Sometimes it happens within the first minute or two of playing sometimes its good for maybe an hour then crashes. It is happening both in high populated areas like Dal and low areas like outside UC pickin some peaceblooms. I've been playing for 3+ years now and never had a single problem like this until the new patch... anyone else having a similar issue??

any ideas on how to fix this would be much appreciated!

Tried updating all your drivers, most importantly your ethernet or wireless adapter drivers?

Also, if there is an update for your routers firmware have you applied it?

Might want to post this in the cross forums section for hardware and technical support for Kao to help you out.

You should have an ethernet card & driver.

The patch yesterday was supposed to correct the cog 'o doom crashes. Maybe your problem is fixed now?

I'm going to move this to tech support in case someone there is better able to help you. You're best off just going through blizz support to be honest though.

Is wow crashing, or are you losing internet access completely? Can you surf the web after this happens?

A couple things you can try. First, check the actual coax cable from the wall to the modem (assuming this is indeed a coax cable modem and not DSL) it should be very, very tight and impossible for you to unscrew using finger pressure alone.

If that checks out, Look in device manager and see if your network card is sharing an IRQ with your sound or video card. Given that it occurs randomly visually, if that is truly the issue i'd guess sound card.

If that isn't it, try downloading and running Wireshark, and see if there is any odd traffic errors on your network connection with WoW running.

Also, you need a router. Running a computer without a router is just begging to be hacked, especially if you have a cable modem connection that is always on. You can get a wired one for under $35, no reason not to if you have anything of value on your computer.

Heck, that may actually solve the issue if you are being probed whilst playing on a regular basis.
