FFXIV WONT PLAY OPENING MOVIE ~ PLEASE HELPFollow

#1 Oct 17 2010 at 9:08 PM Rating: Default
after updating all my drivers and updating my video bios and direct x ive finally got the game to work perfectly on my gaming laptop. problem is the opening movie wont play, it just starts to load up and goes back to the start menu, does ne one have ne ideas to what would cause this coz my system should be more then enough to play the game. I have an alienware M17x R2 with I7 820, 8gb DDR3 RAM 1333mhz, 1tb harddrive, blu-ray player and 2 ATI RADEON MOBILITY HD5870 1gb each GDR5 Graphic cards in a crossfire configuration directx11. ive tried turning off crossfire, making configuration quality of ffxiv to the lowest, reinstaling FFXIV making shore anti virus and firewalls r off, updating bios and drivers (As said), and have search the net for ne infomation but i cant find anything relating to the issue. i even contacted square enix, and all they said was that to upgrade to a gaming laptop, which it is???? so any ideas will be greatly appreciated coz im out of ideas :( and though not a big deal i really want to know why i cant play it.

It might possibly be a video playback codec issue, but that would be very unusual. Maybe see if you can find and launch the opening movie file directly from your installation directory?

what resolution are you running it at? Some cards are having issues above 1080 vertical resolution.

I don't see any other instances of this anywhere, so it's not a widespread issue that people are reporting much. Unfortunatly you might have better luck getting this figured out at the AMD / ATI video card forums.

Only other idea I have would be try a fresh installation on your laptop of windows 7 with the latest drivers and see if that resolves the issue.
