Goblin Cracker is nice for the ammo slot for farming and soloing. Personally, I'd use it over Tiphia Sting, since the cracker doesn't have -25 HP and -4 EVA penalties.

Anyway, despite what you think the goblin cracker is a better choice for soloing/farming than a tiphia sting. As I stated in a previous post, the -4 EVA and -25 hurts more than it helps despite the +2 ACC it provides.

Well, seeing as how most mobs that are farmed (and in some cases solo'd at least from my perspective) are EP/DC -possibly EM, the contribution that the sting provides against those mobs for farming/soloing would be marginal at best. And as a MNK75 with h2h, crit hits, counter fully merited I don't see that there really would be a huge difference between the sting and cracker since MNKs themselves are DOT pros.

I agree the tiphia sting is an excellent piece for the ammo slot for most other things, but not when it comes to farming and soloing. Another example is shura togi. I would never farm/solo in it because the -50 HP isn't very helpful when for the most part I want to maximize my HP and EVA because I know the less I get hit, the more I can keep going without having to slow down and rest. Arakan samue is obviously a much better choice than togi, even a NQ scorpion harness for that matter. That doesn't mean the shura togi is no good or that samue and scorpion harness are better overall; just not for soloing/farming sessions.

Same thing between a goblin cracker vs tipia sting for that same reason. That predominantly is the main reason why I suggested it in the first place.

I apologize if I'm coming off as an ass. That really isn't my intention as I'm just trying to explain my position in more detail based off of my personal experiences farming and some soloing as a MNK75.

Not to mention that this isn't a "what to wear when you're soloing/farming on MNK at X level range" guide.

Is it better to keep my smart grenade on over the tiphia if I can hit the accuracy cap without the tiphia? Trying to get another viewpoint on this comparison.

Looks like mixed set wins but maybe only by a little. There are of course assumptions that acc is not capped.

Overall very very close. Adding the gain from the counter and evasion I think usu set still is the best. (I'd trade .5% for +29 evasion and counter +2.)

I'm sure this has been addressed somewhere before. but:

Charger's mantle. How does it measure up to the other attack back pieces? does the 5 atk over come the 2 STR (amemet+1), 3STR (Foragers) or 4STR (Cerb+1)?

Is there any reason the Cobra Unit Cap isnt included here? Ive been thinking about getting it when i can equip it, but i haven't really noticed any mention of it. I wear Crow Beret in exp and figured the Cobra Cap will be a really nice upgrade, is there something i dont know about it?

Now for my question. Did a search of the monk forums for the boots Creek M Clomps; 4STR 4VIT. Not alot showed up. I'm thinking these would be better than denali for dragon kick, and denali would be better for asuran fists, does that sound right?

This thread should help a little. I really should learn to tinker with damage formulas myself.

I recall older threads talking about weapon progression which stated:

...Mythril+1 > Tourney Patas > Patas+1 > CC (if possible) > TM > TM+2, etc.


Is the Patas series no longer necessary/worthwhile? Tourney looks like another point of +DMG, but loses +ACC, and Patas+1 is overshadowed quickly by TM Hooks only two levels later. Is it acceptable to go Mythril+1 at 38 until TM at 50?

I know not everyone is sold on Iota Ring, but I truly can't understand leaving it out if you're putting other "sidegrades" like Blood Ring in the guide. Or Ecphoria, a lower Acc ring than Snipers/Woodsman obtained at a later level, with the only real benefits being no negative stats and a tiny amount of Store TP (and I'm not complaining that Ecphoria is there, it totally deserves to be mentioned).

If the +3 DEX of Iota pushes you to an even number DEX total, it's a +5 Acc ring for MNK (3 Acc, 2DEX=1Acc). 3 Acc and 3 DEX is not "4.5 Acc", it's either 4 or 5 Acc. So potentially, identical in Acc performance to Blood/Snipers/Woodsman.

Iota has no negative stats, like Blood/Ecphoria. AND it has a H2H WS modifier (+3 VIT) on a good Acc ring, a pretty unique feature. Bigger deal on HF and DK (and for those PUPs out there, Stringing Pummel) than Asuran, but it's a benefit on any H2H WS. Hell, even the minor benefits of raw DEX AGI VIT are something. Admittedly not a massive deal, but I'll take even a minor increase in crits, decrease in enemy crit, more evasion, and less damage taken.

For anyone who is using a Snipers, Woodsman, or Blood Ring and has an odd number DEX, Iota is simply better. May not be a huge leap, but it's not even an argument that Iota beats those rings for TP or WS.

This is a MNK guide, but you also may have people who also have 2-handed weapon jobs, where +3DEX is even better as a DD stat (making Iota better for Acc than a regular +5 Acc, no matter what). Or a BLU who likes the spell modifier stats. So you've got other people who may get even more mileage out of the ring. Like the Hollow/Ethereal discussion, this is a MNK guide and you're talking about what to pick for MNK and not relying on other jobs. But Iota isn't the "almost as good as the better choice for MNK" option like Ethereal that people are rationalizing because they may use it on other jobs. Instead, here you're saying it's not worth the effort to get what is potentially a superior choice to the other +5 Acc rings for MNK, because... it's only a little bit better AND it may be more useful to other jobs?

If you have two of Rajas, Ulthalam's, Snipers +1, Toreador's, Divisor, Mars's (lucky you)... OK, use those. If you can't use two of those, Iota clearly wins over the rest if it leaves you at even # DEX.

Personally, I have Rajas but took Jalzahn's for my COR and RNG. And Snipers +1 and Toreador's aren't really in my budget right now. Excess Ampoules = Iota is the best thing I could buy with them and it also happens to be the best thing I can put on my finger unless I pony up for Snipers +1/Toreador's.

I wouldn't tell people they need to go do Einherjar just to get this ring on their MNK. But it's easily possible for someone who regularly does Einherjar to have no desire to commit to upgrading a Mythic and have more ampoules than they really know what to do with. Iota Ring is at the least the best MNK ampoule item, and quite possibly an improvement for a MNK's ring collection.

Yes. Denali Bonnet is the most useless piece of sh*t in the game. With perhaps the exception being Homam Zuchetto.

As far as earrings go, Diabolos's Earring is better than a Merman's, unless you're in Dark weather.

Generally speaking, people do either have a Diabolos's Earring or a Hollow Earring. However, i'd expect Diabolos/Hollow to outdo Merman's x2. With reguard to Asuran fists, You'll want to be TPing in Hollow/Brutal, and swap in Diabolos's for when you WS. The extra Acc will help more than 6Att.

Tortoise Earring +1 was specificly not included due to the fact they're pretty expensive on most servers. I felt the price was unreasonable for the small increase over Beetle Earring +1 for upcoming MNKs. However, if you have the gil to play with by all means, use them.

At lvl 71 you can start using Gnadbhod's Helm for WS if you are lucky enough to own that. Pretty sure it would outperform Shura Kabuto. Hard to aquire drop though unless you have a solid group going. Went 3/5 on seeing the hat in the BCNM so not very uncommon.

re: Denali Bonnet

Denali Bonnet can be good when /drg if W. Turban would take you to 27% Haste (since 26% is the target). Usukane would take you to 25% in that instance, so Denali might be the better choice (depending on other factors), and of course if you don't have Usukane then Denali is the clear winner.

EDIT: To whoever rated me down, you need 26% haste from gear to hit the true 25% cap, due to internal rounding factors. So in the case where you are at ACC cap with /drg (something more plausable due to the ACC bonus JT it grants) using Wyvern Earring, Byakko, Black Belt for a total of 22% haste, then the bonnet vs usukane comparison would come down to 3STR vs 3ATK and about a .4% haste difference... Note how W. Turban would be flat overkill in this case. In such a situation, the haste and attack from bonnet would trump 3STR from Usukane (assuming that you would most likely equip dune boots on your feet over something like fumas). This is admittedly rare, but it does mean that the item is not so awful that you should completely trash talk it as if it has no redeeming qualities in any circumstance whatsoever.

Maybe These are worth adding. while im not the most clued up on how much of a benefit the dex will be they're still a strong piece for chakra at the very least i think.

Lucky for you that Mirke with Acc/Att augments is actually better than D.Body is, pretty much all of the time.

And yes Cobra Unit Harness is an upgrade from SH. Thanks for reminding me, I need to add it.

I spotted this crafted gear item that looks good for MNK:

Looks to be Bonecraft 78 cap for NQ. Another one of those, "Wish they had that when I was leveling." items.
