Speaking of WoW ... why do you guys call damage dealers DPS? You just not realize how stupid it sounds?

"What type of jobs do you generally play?"
"A DPS!"
"A ... a damage per second?"

Well, e-peen is usually measured in DPS, not damage done, so it's actually understandable why people call everyone a dpser other than damage dealer.

According to Wowhead's guide, you can queue up for the dungeon at 84. The only thing about the easter holiday I find annoying is trying to find the rarer female/race combos. I just barely got that achievement on my druid this year.

Damage Per Seconder makes less sense.

As I said, you are watching this by the wrong angle. You need to think "Recount", wich is an addon that WoW has that show measurements. The one that is more used is DPS. Or HPS. Or TPS.

No, I get what DPS is. Believe me, I spent a good two years near the beginning of Final Fantasy XI trying to convince ********* that the Dark Knight doing 100 damage per hit every two seconds is doing less damage overall than the Monk doing 60 damage a hit twice a turn every one and a half second.

The title just doesn't make sense. You are not damage per second, you are doing damage per second. I am a runner, I am not a miles/kilometers per hour.

When you put it that way, it does sound pretty stupid. It made me giggle. =x

I always used to use DD early on, after coming from XI, but no one else did (because DPS was the term Blizz used, officially).

Oh, I do understand your meaning.
I'm just saying it's easier to say DPS and DPSer and not say Damage Dealer.
In a place, time, situation where everything gets acronyms, even more if you are dealing with adolescents as a majority of your controlled population, it's kinda expected to see things like that.
In the end, it's easier to say DPS or DPSer and get the meaning across the board easier than to say Damage Dealer. Besides, it's a sticky word.

If you think about it, if you stick with your racionalization, calling tanks as Tank is quite wrong too. I remember when that wasnt used at all (before MMOs and such), it was more "meat shield" or something. It's just that everybody started calling it like that one day and it's like that since.

Also, the 5th or 6th line down on weapons in WoW is a Damage per Second rating, so it's been included in the game since the beginning. DD is more specific, but it's like people talking about an ATM machine, or saying "please PST".

No, I get quite irate over people that say ATM Machine as well. This is why we live in a generation that believes typing u in place of you is okay.

Might as well call tanks "DMPS" for damage mitigated per second.

To be fair, I don't think RAS Syndrome and the mutilation of the English language are exactly one in the same - not that your point is any less valid.
