Siphon MP II so good are they going to gimp?Follow

Got this at R44 and I am suitably impressed with it. Here are the two spells so you can compare:

Siphon MP

Siphon MP II

I was getting anywhere between 145-195 mp back on a single cast on a single mob if unresisted. Multiple mobs was netting me 500+ so this spell has got a lot of power for me as my THM's MP pool is hovering at just over 1k. All this for 15mp more. Smiley: nod

Another spell you can look forward to I would say and another one CON's will rank THM up for.

In my opinion as a THM you don't need Siphon MP. Generally @ r50 you won't be running into any MP-related problems as long as your MND attribute is at 80+. With a base MP pool of >1000 you can go from one cooldown of Exaltation to the next unless your agenda is to use Shadowsear without Spiritbind every time it's up.
Aside from that most notorious monsters are immune to Siphon MP.

Overall I think the spell itself is being overrated. I'm not saying there is no situational use for it but in most cases you can really save yourself the 3 action points.

While it's true that NMs are immune to siphon MP, you can still use regular mobs in the area as your mana batteries.

For faction leve NMs there is no way you will run out of mp. However, for Great Buffalo which has a ton of health, you will need every bit of mp you can get.

Yeah I actually have fought both types of NM's (free roaming and Faction) and the biggest problem was MP. The technique when I am running out of MP (usually at least twice per fight) and my exaltation timer is not up, is for a member of the high level mele to take down a close low level mob and I drain as nuch MP as I can get. This has kept things ticking along nicely until the next recast of exaltation. I don't disagree though, this spell is pretty useless during leve's, behest, however if you are fighting Doblyns it will keep you topped up. Suppose its down to personal preference. Anyway the topic here is how much better Siphon MP II is compared to Teir I.

I can only imagine as I still only have the first one. But seeing as how I can't live without MP Siphon I'm sure the 2nd one will be even more useful. As it seems it can drain twice the MP as the first one, wow. Can't wait to get it. If i forget to drain a couple leve marks in a row I could be running low on MP, so at least with that I would be a little safer.

I don't see how you can run out of MP on any NM encounters if your attributes are allocated correctly and you're wearing proper gear. I use "Spiritbind" every time it's up and it usually carries me from 1 CD of "Exaltation" to the next. If it doesn't I'd always have 1 or 2 stacks of Ether in my inventory.
Generally we prefer to incapacitate and kill our NM's quickly so we would never have any melee classes purposely pull outside mobs solely for the purpose of a THM's MP gain. My advice would be to micromanage MP better to not even get into that predicament in the first place.

Well I suppose I'm not really that experienced in fighting the NM's so I havent really had time to finetune my playing on that count. I still think Siphon MP II is worth equiping as you can occasionally get low, but there are better spells to equip depending on your situation. I'm not saying in the OP that Siphon MP II is better to equip than anything other than Siphon MP I. It is entirely sitational and dependent on your individual playstyle. Some mages use more than others, personaly I'm of the frugal variety and micro-manage my MP very well. The argument for spiritbind is a very good one though and something in an NM sitation I havent tried (only through not fighting them very much). Most of the time - in Leve groups for example - spiritbind is not always viable option. The leve groups I am playing in are usually 8-15 people parties and we put our leve's on five for the challenge and fun. It's on these occasions that you 'sometimes' require an extra boost.

Yes, "Spiritbind" is something that both THM's and CON's have on their bar in our shell, especially for NM encounters.
As for guildleves you are absolutely right, "Spiritbind" wouldn't be a good choice in that situation but I have also never had MP problems in guildleve situations, be it r40s @ 5 star or r50 faction leves.

I did just notice that you aren't physical rank 50 yet so I can see how you might still be facing MP issues. I would recommend a MND value somewhere between 75 and 100, depending on your gear, if you are a DD-role. If you are a healer than I'd put MND somewhere around 120 - 140.

Did one of the faction NM's yesterday so its the first time I have done one in quite a while and certainly not since I was this sort of rank. The party was 15/15 and we had two R50 CON's and a much lower level THM as well as myself. I used exaltation once through the fight and drained about 380 mp from a couple of nannygoats that wondered in front of me. Of course they agro'd but at my rank it was just a few hits between cures and they were down. Finished the fight with over half my MP and my timer was at about 6 minutes. Maybe my previous experience was due to my level.

Yea that's what I would think. Btw. if you are referring to the LL-area faction buffalo, the humanoid in that encounter is siphonable ^ ^

Siphon and Sygian II on caster group works well for NMs. That way the trash you end up tanking from Siphons give you MP a second time ^.^

If they are becoming a nuisance, drop a sleep spell. Should be able to drain while slept. Or at least give you a break for tanking the crabs/goats etc.

The Dodore "adds" are Siphon-able, as is the Goblin trash.
