Hey guys

I recently re-joined FFXIV (During the Welcome Back Event) and thanks to my Epic LS KOTRT on Durandal, I'm Fast Approching my First Rank 50 (only 5 ranks to go) YAY :D

Anyways I've been looking on various site trying to figure out what gear I should aim for once I hit the magic 50 and came up with the following:

Weapon: Ifirit's Harpoon
Body: Darksteel Haubergeon
Head: Cobalt Chain Coif
Legs: Felt Trousers
Feet: Cobalt Sollerets
Hands: Cobalt Vambraces
Waist: Cobalt Plate Belt
Bracelet: Raptorskin Wristbands
Ear's: Explorer's Earrings and Militia Earrings
Neck: Explorer's Choker
Rings: Explorer's Ring and Spinel Ring
Undershirt: Cotton Undersleeves
Undergarment: Cotton Braies

Just wanted to know what everyone Thought have I made the right choices, am I asking to much as my first 50 is it worth all the Gil and hard NM hunting or Dungeons.

I would love to hear all your thoughts and suggestions and also What should be my next Class that will compliment my Lancer I've already lvled Thaumaturge and Conjurer to Rank 15 to get some spells to help solo.

thanks in advance
Dave

GC stands for Grand Company.

Weapon: Ifrit Harpoon are quite outdated if you want high-end set up. There are three spears that are high-end, which are GC Lieutenant Spear, Garuda Spine and Gae Bolg. The Obelisk is a contestant for high-end with double/triple meld and/or HQ, however you can't use it as a DRG. Gae Bolg win uncontested, but it also takes ages before you can touch it. Reason being Acc bonus is actually quite good and DPS is more important than DMG. Ifrit, Mog Fork and HQ Hart-Guisarme are useful while you work toward the high-end spears. The GC Sergeant Spear is quite good, however you should rather save the seals for Lieutenant version.

Body: Darksteel Haubergeon is very pricey and only the HQ version has extra PIE. At the beginning you should just find any body pieces that give STR/ACC/ATK and double meld it with PIE or Crit Attack. Alternatively if you want you can just use the AF body piece since it's free and quite easy to get. What you want to work toward is Darklight Corselet but it will take ages. GC Lieutenant Body depends on company (Twin Adder is extremely good) and Double/Triple Meld HQ Darksteel Hauby are alternative if you can't work toward DL Corselet.

Head: There are far better stuff than the Chain Coif, the Veteran Pot Helm for example is extremely cheap. There are unfortunately nothing good to meld on Head slot for DD. What you would want are either the Achievement Crown for all lvl 50 DoW/DoM, GC Lieutenant Hat depends on the GC (the Twin Adders one is awesome, I can testify as much :P +15 PIE and +15 ATK is good) and at the very top is Darklight Eye Patch.

Legs: Boarskin Skirt or Felt Trousers with double meld STR/DEX or STR/VIT. AF pants for cheap alternative. Finally Militia Subligar (drop from Gold Bazaar Hamlet Battle).

Feet: Veteran Moccasins or AF feet. Best is of course Darklight Caligae. There are useful crit atk materia for boots but they are very pricey.

Waist: LNC can't use Cobalt Plate Belt. GC Sergeant Belt (depend on GC). Veteran Field Belt or Explorer Tool Belt. Any lvl 41+ Belt with double melded Enmity down or TP bonus (very pricey). Finally, Veteran Sash (add +3 PIE) which is very cheap.

Hands: AF hands is very easy to get and give +40 ATK. You can use Cobalt Gauntlet with double meld STR or ATK, but I would prefer Felt Bracer as it's useable by all DoW. STR is better than ATK if you get a high DPS spear. Best is Darklight.

Ears: You got it right. Also have a look at GC Earrings, depends on the GC some are quite good.

Neck: Explorer Choker or GC Choker or Electrum Gorget +1, depends on your set up.

Rings: Explorer Ring is not very good. You want HQ Rubellite or Tourmaline Ring.

What is the extent you are willing to go for gearing up?

Thank you for your speedy reply

You seem to know your stuff I'll definitely change my selections there I'm Really enjoying Lancer (I Loved DRG in FF11) and I intend to unlock DRG here on 14.

I hopefully intent Lancer to be my main Class (I will LVL as many as pos) so I do what the Absolute best Lancer can have.

I mean I don't Expect to get it overnight I'm really enjoying just Solo'in and getting my own Gil and Working my way to a goal. So I will start with the Average Decent Gear (the Cheaper the better :D) but will slowly upgrade to the best in each slot

thank you for your time

ATK stat boosts your auto-attack and increases Weapon Skill marginally. STR/PIE boost your auto-attack and increase Weapon Skill by larger extent, however these two are capped by the Weapon DPS (the lower the DPS is, the lower the STR/PIE cap). DPS affects Weapon Skill damage the most, as it limits the effect of STR/PIE on WS beside directly increasing WS damage. That is why despite Garuda Spine, Obelisk or GC Lieutenant having lower DMG stat they do lots more damage than Ifrit Harpoon on WS.

At the start you would want something around 37.5-38.00 DPS, 300 STR/280 PIE and 350ish Acc. Once you get there start finding ways to improve those parameters.

so can u just clear things up a bit I assume you're Suggesting to Unlock DRG what are the benefits to that and how does DRG differ to LNC.

I dont quite understand the whole Job system they've brought into ff14. Once I Unlock DRG does that Replace LNC when ever I Equip a Polearm (basically like an upgraded version of LNC) or is it a separate Job that I have to then LVL up and I can choice to be a Drg or a LNC by switching weapons.

I was also looking over your suggestions and I wanna check If the Stats I get from gamerescape.com are correct or is there a better site for me to work out which gear I should get. here is the stats according to http://ffxiv.gamerescape.com/wiki/Category:Lancer_Weapons

Ifrit's Harpoon 151 DMG 3.5 Delay 43.14 DPS Other Stats: Attack Power: +30 Fire Resistance: +15 Additional Effect: Fire Damage
Gae Bolg 164 DMG 3.9 Delay 42.05 DPS Other Stats:vAccuracy: +30 Crit Rate: +30 Crit Attack Power: +100 Store TP: +30
Garuda's Beak 127 DMG 3.1 Delay 40.96 DPS Other Stats: Accuracy: +25 Crit Attack Power: +45 Wind Resistance: +15
Storm Lieutenant's Trident 149 DMG 3.7 Delay 40.27 DPS Other Stats: Accuracy: +20 Crit Rate: +5

Now when I first saw that I assumed the Ifrits Harpoon would be quite Decent (not as good as the Gae Bolg in DMG) but the lower delay and Higher DPS made it better.
are all that correct and which one should I aim for (Gae Bolg taking the longest to unlock)

Sorry If I'm asking to much

No the Ifrit Harpoon DPS stat is wrong, it's 39.60ish. The rest are correct.

Once you unlock DRG, you can equip job stone to become a DRG. Basically it's a more specialised version of LNC that you can change back and forth by equip/unequip the job stone, and it shares level as LNC so you don't have to grind level on DRG. You however have to do quests to unlock more skills as a DRG.

Hi I know its been a while but I wanted to see what You though of my gear now.

I hit rank 50 a few weeks back and unlocked DRG.

I just got my Full AF gear Last Night (that's why I'm posting now) so here's my List now and what I hope to get soon :-

Main Hand: at the moment I'm Using Hart Guisarme (not HQ) but since the newest update (i.e. Skirmish) I was thinking of getting (Hopefully getting more like :D) the Gaintsgall Trident. Is it worth It I'm thinking it is because its Meldable so maybe Double PIE meld or PIE and Savage Might? I'm still looking into getting Gae Bolg in the long run.

Body, Hands, Legs, Head and Feet: Full AF gear, I'm looking into getting what was suggested above i.e. Darklight gear.

Waist: Explorer's Belt

Bracelet: Rubelite Bracelet

Fingers: Rubelite Ring and Tourmaline Ring

Neck: Electrum Gorget

Ears: I still haven't got any yet their quite Pricey lowest that I like is 400K (I have got a Gaintsgal Longbow on Auction for 1.5mil which will pay for my ears)

Do you think that is okie obviously it isn't the Absolute best but its a Starting Point of which to build apon.

Is there any reason I should LVL Archer or Puglist up to a certain lvl (i.e. any useful skills which would compliment DRG)

thanks again
Necro Warning: This post occurred more than thirty days after the prior, and may be a necropost.

If you have static, go for Skirmish it's the fastest route to good weapon. Unless you are very rich, don't try to double meld Giantsgall, double melding is all chance and I have been blowing up a lot of stuff to Grade III/IV double meld. A single melded Acc should make the Giantsgall comparable to Moogle. A double melded/triple melded Giantsgall is very good but I doubt it can still outperform Garuda/Lieutenant nor Relic, simply because DPS is quite a big factor on your stat. From people posted tests, around 40.00+ DPS will have a cap of 350 STR 310 PIE where over those figure will yield diminishing returns. However SE also stated they are aiming to make it 1:1 regarding character attributes from level and attributes from gear in v2.0, which means that gear attribute will be lesser compared to current where triple/quad meld yield insane value. If you have time, just do Chocobo escort to pick up Grand Company armour pieces (cause the Lieutenant Spear/Trident/Lance can take quite a lot of time to purchase).

For PUG you would want Backside (or w/e skill that forced crit from rear attack), Second Wind and Feathered Foot. For ARC you want Decoy, Chameleon and Quelling Strike. That's 6 out of 5 skills you can equip, so choose the skills you want to equip depending on the situation (Decoy is mostly not useable in most NM/Primal fight, though for some other they are highly valuable).
