Even getting hacked is better in Rift.Follow

Recently received an E-mail from Trion about my account being renewed. This was a little surprising to me as my account has been closed for some time. So I login to the account management screen just to see whats going on and it turns out someone from GA has been paying for my account for some time.

Since Huard Justa was so kind as to setup a subscription for me I went ahead and changed my password and logged back into Rift just to see what kind of damage had been done. Much to my surprise I found all of my characters had been leveled up to 50 and were coin locked.

If he hadn't hacked my account I might have sent Huard a thank you note.

"Coin Lock" means that the character cannot sell, delete or mail any items or currency.


I did file a petition and got the IP address history wiped. The more I think about it the more I'm leaning towards deleting the leveled characters. I think my highest level before was in the mid 20s and now I have 3 50s and no idea what to do with them and missed a large portion of the game.

To unlock it you just have to enter the code that Trion e-mails to the owner of the account. Which I recieved a couple weeks ago and just deleted thinking it was some form of a scam since my account was supposed to be canceled. Got another one sent to me though after I filed the petition.

Yeah, I wouldn't delete them. Just leave them there and start anew. You might want them later. I can't see much reason for needing more than 4 character slots on a server, anyway, since it's very easy to swap roles within one class.

I had something similar, but not nearly as awesome, happen in WoW. I had quit during Lich King, and I got e-mails from the one friend who had my address asking me why I wouldn't answer her. Apparently my account got hacked, sold, and someone was playing me. My evil twin (or the seller) had paid for the expansion on my account, and the person had played through about half the quests on my main. Unfortunately, to wrest control back to my account, my entire inventory got wiped clean and I only got back the items I was wearing pre-hack and a small portion of the things I had in the bank. (Plus my cash.) So I have credit for doing all these quests, but no gear...yeah, it was fun trying to get back into the swing of things at max level and old gear. Glad to hear things turned out better for you.
