but this one is making it a sure thing for me: 1 free game (of 4 options).
I was already going to get Mario Kart 8, as it is the only racing game I enjoy. I will be picking Windwaker. I already own and have beat it many time, but the HD version goes look really nice (and I just could not make my self buy it over again for just the look, but a free game [after a game has been bought] heck yea!)

My system came bundled with Super Mario Bros U, I bought Windwaker HD, so I'll be getting Pikmin 3.

ugh. Super lucky. If we had that list, it would be a hard pick between Sonic and Monster Hunter :3
I already have SMBU and Windwaker, so it's either Pikmin 3 or Wii Party U for me. I honestly don't know which one would get played more... I looked up a couple reviews on Wii Party U and they were very mixed, so I'm not sure.

$200 is cheap for a console but still a lot of money for something you're not sure you really want.

I forget where I read it, but due to the low number of WiiU consoles that have been sold, MK8 is on par to be the second lowest selling game in the history of the franchise, and it has nothing to do with the quality of the game.
They should really release everything on the wii shop on to the wii-u shop so you can play on the tablet. I don't understand why they trickle stuff out of their shops. It is really stupid. Like making NA wait 5 months after EU to get super mario 3 on 3ds.
My issue is them releasing certain games for one or the other instead of both. The 3DS can handle Ocarina of Time but not Link to the Past? Bullsh*t. I own both systems. I'll decide what system I want to play it on.
Edit: I'm specifically talking about virtual console games. I know why something like MK8 won't run on the 3DS.

It's not that they can't run the games, it's the fact that Nintendo knows people are only looking forward to the re-release of older games. They are sending the more popular games, LttP for example, to the WiiU VC in order to entice people to by a WiiU. If they released it for both systems I guarantee the majority of the people would only get it for the 3DS.

I'm aware that's why they're doing it, it's still ********* First, anyone who spends $300 on a console for a VC game is an idiot. Second, Nintendo needs to get their head out of their *** and realize they're alienating far more customers than they're bringing in by pretending that VC games have a chance in hell of selling a $300 console. I'm pretty adamant about not being a pirate, but even I bought a PSP with the intent of turning it into a portable emulator for older games.
Eh, to be honest from what I read they can't run super nintendo games through VC on 3DS the same way they can other games. If they edited it (like sega has done for ecco the dolphin for example) the system could definitely play it - but from what I've read even GBA games can't run all the VC features.
Maybe it's not true. If it is, they are kind of morons, not sure why they would build their 3DS so stupidly... but w/e.

Only thing that interests me about wii U over keeping my wii only is idea of being able to play the VC games on the pad. But until they move the VC games to wii U shop - can't use them on the pad (as far as I can tell)

VC shouldn't be anything more than an emulator. If it is, they're doing it very, very wrong. Aside from the power of the system running the emulator and the controls available to the emulator, there is no reason games from a specific console wouldn't be able to run on the 3DS. And since GBA and SNES games are already available for the VC on 3DS, incompatibility isn't the issue.

There are no SNES games on VC for 3DS. None of the ambassador games were SNES, and I've trolled all the 3DS store enough to know there are no SNES games on 3DS store.
My understanding for gameboy advance is they use the "DS" capabilities and run them like they are in a phantom cart slot from that system. This means they don't have save states and can't go into sleep mode. Again, I'm pretty hazy on the details/could be wrong.
Honestly if Ninty made it hard for the system to run SNES/GBA they are morons, but would you really be shocked?

I thought one of the Yoshi games on the 3DS was a SNES port, I could be wrong though. Either way, there are working SNES emulators available for the 3DS, meaning there's no hardware/software excuse for not porting SNES games to the 3DS.
The issue with emulating the GBA is that there is only one working version of the GBA BIOS and it's damn near impossible to find. There is a bogus version floating around that a lot of the emulators use, but it's extremely unstable. I've spent many hours going through hex to try and find the right BIOS and I still can't find it. But this is Nintendo, not some random hardware cracker. I'd be amazed if they couldn't get a hold of the BIOS to their own hardware.

I had that BIOS...I really wish I knew what HDD or floppy it is on -.- I didn't label "pirated" stuff from my youth.
As to the 1st part. Yes. Yoshi Island was/is Super Mario World 2 on the SNES. It was ported on the GBA as well, but as Super Mario Advance 3.
Hmmm. The GBA emulator (PC) is near perfect, and I have a "bios" for it. Usually it doesn't need a bios. Only needed it for a few games that had bugs otherwise...
