I got mine in the mail today. I don't know if I am going to keep it or not. First huge complaint that I have is you can't even log into the main menu of the console without giving them a credit card. I know this is required if you buy games but just like my Android phone I have TONS and TONS of games on my phone and I have never spent a dime. IF I do decide to buy something then worry about CC info. I do not like the idea of giving a company that we know little about my CC info just to turn my console on!

I was part of the Kickstarter and the way they ignored their backers was pretty bad. Then their update last night boasting about what an awesome job they did while people are still bringing up issue after issue and still being ignored, was absolutely ridiculous. They then turned around and feigned ignorance on the whole thing. I stood up for them through this whole thing, right up until last night anyway. I would strongly suggest anyone who is interested just sit back and wait a bit. As is the hardware is highly questionable and the software is in need of a few updates.

As far as the CC stuff, I have no idea. I've downloaded most of the emulators as well as a few demos and have yet to enter any billing information. But I guess that just goes to show how broken the thing still is.

From what I have found it looks likes people who bought one through kickstarter are not required to give CC info unless they go to buy something. I ordered mine right after the kickstarter campaign. It has to do with when your username was registered I guess. I have contacted them about a way around this or simply to give me a refund as I have no desire for them to keep my CC info stored. Most of what I ever planned to do with this console was emulation.

It was mentioned awhile ago that a CC would be required before the store could be entered, which is partly why I was surprised I didn't have to enter one. The excuse given to Kickstarter backers was that it was necessary so backers could have a seamless experience.

Buy 25 dollar Gift Card, register it to your name, use it to enter store, win.

Unless you buy something It only checks the card 1 time for a dollar im guessing.

My wife use to do all out bills online with prepaid debit "gift" cards. I say used to becuase you have far more control over your charges from a bank issued one than a prepaid.

I honestly dont understand the "credit card info" argument, Its no less safe with them than any other retailer, and if you have the debit card but still use checks there's a special place in hell for you. If its that big of a deal fo "record keeping" swipe the card and write the balance in your check book. Dont make everyone wait for you to write the damn thing out slowing down the whole line.

It's potentially a lot more dangerous to give OUYA your CC info than a major retailer. OUYAs system is new and untested, hastily put together, and the details of it are completely unknown. With major retailers you at least know what payment system they're using or they're big enough to use their own, meaning they probably have the resources to properly secure it.

Also, anyone else have their OUYA turning itself on in the middle of the night? I've woken up the past couple days to find it on.

I only have a problem with people who use checks in two circumstances. First is when they wait until the whole transaction is over before they start filling the thing out. You can be writing the store name, the date, and signing your name on it while they're getting you the total. The second case is when you go through an express lane (like, 10 items or less, etc.) and the store doesn't have one of those systems where you just sign the check and they print all the information out on it. But really, I've had people who take way longer trying to figure out the debit swipe apparatus than it takes me to pay via check.

I tried using a gift card ( I have a rebate card from tiger direct) but it did not take it. I did find a way around the CC thing. I used a testcard # which is basically a Credit Card that does not do anything. It won't allow anyone to make a charge on it, but it was enough to satisfy the Ouya to let me use my console.

I didn't get to play with it much but I found that most of the actual games on it right now look to be junk. The emulation however it great so far. Messed around with the NES and SNES emulator abit last night and seemed to run flawlessly.

I've only barely followed this but is there any tangible benefit to the Ouya versus a recent gen. cellphone or tablet with a micro HDMI output and Bluetooth controllers?

From what little I've read, the Ouya seems a lot more limited than a stock Android device which makes me wonder what the point of it is. Just a cheap gaming-only solution?

It's just an Android based console that is being left open for the community. But because it's a dedicated platform with a dedicated controller, developers can design games with that in mind.

There have been a few decent looking Ouya games pop up on Kickstarter, but I mainly bought mine with the intended purpose of being an emulator console.

Wouldn't it have been cheaper to just get a Raspberry Pi for emulation, if that's all you were going to use it for?

I think the idea was to inspire lots of creativity and community development. Kinda like a raspberry Pi thing. I did not buy one though because I already have a powerful smartphone and a tablet that I hardly use as is. Well except for surfing the web or streaming music on my smartphone when I am waiting in lines or otherwise bored away from home.

I didn't really have interest in it from the beginning, so haven't been following it much. Unfortunate to hear that it hasn't been as smooth a launch as one might have hoped :(.

I was part of the Kickstarter, my purchase was just as much about supporting the concept as it was about the actual hardware. I assume this thing will get used even less than my 360 or my PS3, which are lucky to get the dust knocked off their fans once a quarter as is.

That was something I was thinking of doing but that overall would cost more then just getting a Ouya for emulation.

That looks like sooooo much fun. Just the projectness of it makes my man and nerd impulses fire off.

Holy **** I've never ever in my whole life seen anyone pay with a check at the grocery store. I don't think anyone in this country accepts them.
