Call me spoiled as well, but I can't justify paying anything if I'm not sure I'm going to get 100hrs+ out of it. There's too much good free or *free stuff out there these days for me to justify the money, and the old games keep stacking up. Things like the PS2 era Final Fantasy games get a play through every couple of years, just to pick an example.

I don't pay full price for those games either, for the exact same reason.

Me either, I know that I got Bioshock: Inf., Xcom:EU (Which I sold for 8 dollars), Bioshock (Which I gave to Turin), and Mafia 2 for 25 dollars. So with the 8 from Xcom, total I paid was 17 dollars. PS3 games Like I said I use Gamefly for. DmC i paid 29.99? for I think as a pre-order.

I only buy stuff on sale now days.Very few games will I preorder, NISA and Jrpgs being the exception, and thats only so the companies see interest in that market so they keep bringing games over.

The last full priced game I bought was Simcity '13, which I returned to amazon 2 days later, only because the wife wanted to play and didnt inform me til it was already out, and before that WoW:MoP and Diablo 3 Collectors Ed.

Just finished the game, the ending was good but also kind of ****** up. The illusion of choice in the game was a nice kick in the nuts, considering the past two games. Smiley: glare

FYI- I don't see how beating 1999 mode and getting the achievement of doing so while not using the dollar bill vending machines is possible without the golden pistol, machine guns, & the ammo gear you get from the pre-order/season pass.

Also, setting crows on fire is a lot more fun than it sounds.

Simply put, you only use the weapons that the enemies mainly use which are machine guns, shotguns, and the RPG. Then just scavenge ammo from their cold dead hands pockets.

It takes 2+ headshots to take down normal mobs with the Golden pistol. I shudder to think what its going to take to kill a handyman. And the mobs stumble around a lot more, making them harder to hit >.<

Also, I thought the kicking you to the main menu if you run out of $ in 1999 mode, post death, would mean starting from the beginning again. It doesn't. So if you want to have all the money you had before you died, just die some more until it kicks you to the menu & restart from your last checkpoint with full money. Then, try not to die again.

There's been some differences in this playthrough as well in Battleship Bay relating to the decision whether to throw the ball at the couple or not (still dunno what happens if the time runs out though), not having Fink's guy show up (I got his gear reward from someone else), & dialogue relating to choosing a different necklace for Elizabeth (but that one's an obvious difference as I chose the cage this time).

Yeah, I actually said "oh honey, didn't you read the end of that one?" It's like the folks who think Wuthering Heights is a love story when it's a "everything goes terrible because of obsession and revenge and people being terrible people" story.

You need to remember she led a sheltered life. Death, Betrayal and War don't sound nearly as horrible in books. Most generalize or don't get into the gory details of each person. I havn't read the book personally, but have read lots of books with war in them overall, and unless they're trying to show how gruesome it can be.

Most books gloss it over, and only show the overall good that came from it, not the human brutality side.

Least thats how I was taking away her comments. Showing shes naive to what revolution actually means.

Except no part of Les Miserables remotely hinted that things were better for the people following the failed revolt. It's not a question of how bad war is, the revolution in Les Mis just completely and unambiguously failed.

I figure she just got bored during one of the long-*** sections dedicated to the manufacture of jet buttons or Hugo's thoughts on the viability of night soil as a means of feeding the growing population of Paris and just never finished the book Smiley: wink2

More charitably, it was two only partially related thoughts that just happened to sound amusing together. "A revolution just like in Les Mis", stop, "They're going to have better lives", stop.

Finished the game at 17 hours (including watching through all the credits). Felt well worth the time & money.

Also, I just noticed I received zero achievements on Steam. Guess it was bugged. I don't care but it's weird.

@ Joph

Now that you've finished, who's to say that Elizabeth's version of Les Mis ended the same way as ours? Hehe.

I did a 14.5 hour marathon yesterday to finish the game, (plus 2 hours Friday night) First game in a long time I can't wait to actually play through a 2nd time.

I'm in no rush to play through it a second time and may never replay it (I guess I'll see what the DLC offers) but, after a night's rest and reflection, I found the (full) ending immensely satisfying.

And finished. 19 hours for me, that does include some long pauses while I was playing and doing some spring cleaning yesterday.

Well worth the money. Still kind of processing how I feel about the ending. Enjoyable ride though for sure, I can see myself playing it again and forcing myself away from my weapon and vapor comfort zone a bit. I have a tendency never to be without a sniper rifle once I get my hands on one and anything that could be crowed I dun crowed it.

The only part of the game that kind of fell short for me was the bit with the 3 tears and the dead mother. The pacing was just off. I felt like that part had far too much needless backtracking and directional stupidity.

Other than that I had a ton of fun. Will try 1999 mode for sure at some point.

More or less my feelings on the pacing, part of which I had a feeling it was towards the end and had a sense of urgency to finish at that point. Also seemed to always have the sniper rifle myself, it was just too darn powerful and fun to blow heads off Smiley: tongue Missed 3 recordings and 10ish of the video things, not bad IMO. Probably try to find those on the hard setting and save 1999 mode for DLC.

You can actually replay the chapters on your current save. This would allow you to enjoy the second playthrough without having to do a scavenger hunt in each area.

I finished in about twelve hours, but I missed ten or so recordings and five videos/telescopes. Once I got my hands on a hand cannon, I pretty much never put it down. Crows and a hand cannon is a quick way to take care of a crowd. One part I didn't care for was the bit near the end where you're in the future, looking for Elizabeth and you would get mobbed by those weird mask wearing freaks if you got spotted by that creature with the horns on it's head. The entire game up to that point is pretty much a straight forward fire fight, but you really had to sneak around in that area, which didn't really work for me.

Yeah, that was also the first time in the game on normal mode that I had ammo problems. Was a bit strange going from always full to, crap I need to throw away my beloved sniper rifle and burst gun for a pistol and shotgun. Once I realized they leash if you run past them though it was not too bad.I just found their leash point and stood on the edge and whacked them. I was not in a sneaking mood.

I actually killed the first couple rooms full of them and was grumbling about my dwindling ammo before it occurred to me to sneak past. I didn't find it too hard, just a matter of timing and ducking.
