There have been a lot of games released this year. Some good, some not so good. Picking a favourite that we all agree on is a tough call. That's where you come in.

While the rest of the crew are arguing over their top picks for 2012, we want you to share yours.

Which release this year do you think is unparalleled? What title has had you slumped over a keyboard until the early hours? Which game has had you grinning like a child who just discovered ice-cream? Which one, unique gem of interactive entertainment has had you crying more than that time at the end of Avatar?

Let us know.

Entry is simple. Just go to this article right here and reply with your nomination. Speak your brains.

Not that I won't vote (not sure which yet), it seems a little odd that a site focused on MMO's would open voting to all games.

This site has a focus? Smiley: wink

It's a little counter-intuitive, but I think it kinda makes sense.

We're all fans of MMOs, but most of us play other games as well. It' just happens that MMOs are the genre we enjoy the most. So if the best examples of MMO gaming lose out to other titles on an MMO-focused site, it says something about the state of MMO development in general.

Of course, Jarimor might have a different reason. He's the EiC, after all :)

We need to band together to make sure KoA wins, just to rub salt in the wounds.

I call foul. That list shows a game being released on the Mac.

Can I nominate Russian Roulette? It's a very exciting game, the only problem is that it has low replayabiliy.

I'd vote for Puddle. Smiley: thumbsup

The only one on the list I've played is Diablo III, and I'm kinda 'meh' about it.

I'd probably vote for Dishonored, The Walking Dead, or Journey, mostly because they're not sequels. Smiley: lol

Borderlands 2 really surprised me with how good the story was, and the voice acting was excellent.

Torchlight 2 is wicked fun, and was great right from the start.

Diablo 3 was enjoyable for a short while, but ultimately was a disappointment. They've changed a lot, so it might be better now, but as long as you have to keep actually running story quests to go kill bosses, I'll pass.

That got my nomination. I went in to that game with some pretty high expectations and it still blew me away.

It really wasnt that great of a year for video games though, imo.

I keep hearing that, but it doesn't really register for me. I feel like this year's been better than most.

Perhaps I'm looking for different things out of the market than others? A lot of my gaming mileage this year has been done on smaller downloadables.

The bulk of my gaming this year has been Forza 4 (came out in 2011), Diablo 3 (extreme disappointment), NCAA Football 11/Madden 13 (cant give these GotY), Torchlight 2 (easily second place for me) and borderlands 2.

I played a ton of other other games sure, but those got most of my attention.

What's your nomination?

Journey's my GOTY, and it's not even remotely close. A very special game, IMHO, and I think we'll grow to appreciate that even more as we get some distance from it.

There's been a lot of other games that I've enjoyed, too, particularly on the smaller/indie end. And I've missed a bunch of titles that I thought looked solid, and plan to go back to, as well.

Shooting from the hip:

Shank 2
Syndicate
SSX
Sine Mora
Closure
Trine 2
The Walking Dead
Starhawk
Minecraft (err...technically)
Dyad
Papo y Yo
Madden 13
Tekken Tag Tournament 2
Borderlands 2
Dishonored
The Unfinished Swan
Pid

(Bolded the ones I particularly enjoyed)

I would agree with this one if it wasn't for the fact that the game is nearly unplayable without a controller.

Isn't that a very short game though? Value goes a long way for me in what I consider a great game, and if that game is ~2 hrs (first google result) for 15 dollars, thats pretty terrible value when im getting 3hrs to the dollar in torchlight 2 (only level 48 out of 100 on my main character to boot) and close to 4 hrs to the dollar in borderlands 2.

It's a short game, yes. 2-3 hours, tops.

Whether that's worth $15 depends, of course, on the perceived value of the experience. A straight dollar-to-hours comparison is fallacious, because it assumes that those hours spent on different games are inherently identical. But we don't weigh all our gaming experiences the same; some are more potent than others.

For example, all the hours that I've spent in Borderlands 2 don't amount to more than the 2 hours I've spent in Journey. BL 2 was entertaining, no doubt. But Journey wowed me...I played the final sequence with with my mouth agape in some kinda weird joy/amazement combination. I'll take those 2 hours over the hundreds I've spent in Skyrim. But that's just me. It's all about your internal metrics, of course. Wholly subjective.

'Course, it'd probably be tough for you to really love Journey now, after it's been talked up to death. Smiley: lol

PS: I expect it'll see a discount after it gets some GOTY nods. So maybe it'd be worth waiting until then?
