I hope they haven't made the NPCs quite so touchy about talking to them with weapons drawn. So many times I would end up getting myself in trouble for that. The biggest thing I am hoping for is that the voice acting is more.. reliable? standard? compared to oblivion. Drove me nuts when a beggar started off with like a thick cockney accent and then had no accent at all when they answered a question. Just messed with the flow of the experience imo.

From the "Making Of" trailer, it sounds like there have been huge improvements in the voice acting since that was a complaint of Oblivion that also disturbed the immersion of the game. They have something like 50 actors doing 120 voices- oh, and Christopher Plummer has his voice in this game.

That's good to hear. I always just tried to pretend that the person was only using that accent to make people feel more sympathetic for them and that the 2nd voice was how they really sounded.
I gave up on worrying about immersion about the third time I had to level by jumping under a dock for 20 minutes in order to avoid sub par stat growth.

Djorn the Mage.

If you haven't yet, make your way to Whiterun. Just for the music. Oh my God why does a random town have such good music. Nevermind, this is apparently just general "Day!Town" music. But it's still so good.

Also, playing a mage I picked up the Sparks spell in the beginning. I felt like a Sith Lord for quite a while.

This is not a bad thing.

So, I wondered on over to the local Gamestop for the midnight release, and was rather shocked to find a line 300 people long. The last time I went to a midnight there, there were only about 50 people. It was about 34 degrees out, and I did not wear a jacket. On top of that, since I had failed to bring my receipt with me, I had to wait until all of the people with receipts could pick up their games before I could get mine. The Gamestop staff knew their business though, because I only had to wait about ten minutes after midnight hit.

Just wait until you pick up a few perks in Destruction. You can dual wield the spell for extra power and add an knock back effect. Right now, I'm using Spark in my left hand and a one handed axe in my right hand. I'm leaning towards mage, but I definitely want some more physical options available to me.

I took a look at the map I got for preordering, and noticed that the area that I had explored in about three hours of playing is only about 2 1/2 inches or so across. This place is freaking huge.

I'm going to bed now, I've taken tomorrow off of work, so I have three days to play.

My brother gifted it to me on Steam. Looks like I won't be waiting 'til winter break after all. Fare thee well, schoolwork. Smiley: lol

Only played for a short while, but very impressed with the character models. Usually I spend a super long time tweaking everything (spend 7 hours making a character you like the look of, play for 140 hours in first person never seeing it), but the presets were very good, and I only really messed with it for a few minutes.

I typically play these games as a sword-and-board tank character, but I'd like to go with more of a spellsword build.

The soundtrack is ABSURDLY beautiful. I've only gotten to play like 45 minutes so far. But I've reserved an hour or two to dedicated play.

The opening to this game is easily superior to every other ES game by a pretty significant margin. Morrowind? Walk into that building and handle some paperwork. Oblivion? Walk through this dungeon and kill rats, then watch your king die without even remotely trying to help.

Skyrim? RUN FROM THE MOTHA-F***ING DRAGON.

And I really like the way they structured the opening with regards to the main story. You play someone who was JUST entering Skyrim illegally. So your character really melds well with your experience, trying to figure out wtf is going on. And the intro does a really good job of that, imo. Especially with regards to playing the two factions off each other.

First, the stormcloaks are your partners in misfortune, then they are the allies that just save you from death. But then the Imperials save you, and the Stormcloaks are all gunning for you (though I want to try the opening again and wear stormcloak armor to see if that changes). But then you happen upon the Imperial torture room. Etc.

Skyrim, you replace the real world.

Oh well I never actually beat Morrowind or Oblivion (I would get so far then get disinterested) so I figured I will play through both of those games before hitting up Skyrim. I should have enough funds to purchase the game at that point.

The hard part is going to be avoiding all these bloody spoilers.

I've never actually played any of the other games, myself. I watched a friend play one of the previous two, though I can't remember whether it was Morrowind or Oblivion. Oblivion, I think...

I remember that it was fun to watch all the hilarious ways that he accidentally got himself killed. He couldn't go 5 minutes without wandering into a new area and getting mauled by a creature, or accidentally pissing off a powerful NPC, or falling to his death.

So I just did a really cool quest.

It started when I was wandering around and found the body of a "Treasure Hunter" in the wilderness. There was a note on him which indicated he was looking for a sword and that it was in a certain barrow, which started a quest and put it on my map.

The quest itself was actually fairly bland, it was typical dungeon diving when I got to the barrow. What was really cool was the boss at the end, guarding the sword. It was a ghost that would hit me with a sword while shooting lightning at me, then once I got him to a certain point, he split into two ghosts that appeared in opposite corners of the room. One ghost shot fire at me, the other shot ice. After I killed those two, re reappeared and went back to the melee/lightning combo.

What was cool to me was how I picked this up randomly in the middle of the woods, and the boss was awesome. It makes me wonder how much of these little random quests are spread around the game. I'm guessing an amazingly huge amount.

Oblivion was good, but the game has a lot of gameplay problems that can make it frustrating. Still, I ended up putting over 300 hours into one of my characters alone. I rarely buy new games, but made an exception for Skyrim and so far, it has not disappointed. Bethesda basically mashed together Fallout 3 and Oblivion to make one amazing game.

If you want to play an Elder Scrolls game, own a decent PC, and don't mind spending extra setup time, you could always buy Oblivion GOTY edition for $20 and then mod them stuffing out of it to mix most of the complaints of the game (you'll still hear the same 12 ******* voice actors again and again and again and again and again and again...). Updates include a ton of bug fixes, updated graphics/environments, more exciting combat, auto-scaling rewards, wider selection of spells, completely different monster placement, reasons to explore dungeons, etc, etc. You can literally turn Oblivion into a completely different game.

I just wasted 5 minutes of Skyrim time, thank me and be grateful!

I just spent an hour trying to make a character that looks like me, and ended up with something that looks exactly like a cross between Sam Worthington and the dude who played Bullet-tooth Tony in Snatch.

Guess that'll have to do.

By hilarity, he means you get ************ into the air and die.

Right now, I'm exploiting my way to capped sneak. You don't even have to move around for Sneak to level up, you just have to be sneaking while enemies are looking for you. I found this nifty little spot with a couple enemies on the other side of a gorge. I toss an arrow over every thirty seconds or so to keep their attention and the skillups come rolling in. My last three levels have come from nothing but Sneak and I'm about to hit level 50 Sneak skill. I'm running low on arrows though, so I don't know if I'll make it to cap, but I'll have one hell of a good head start. It looks like you have to actually hit an enemy for Archery to skill up, otherwise, that would be going up pretty quick too. I've put about a hundred arrows into the side of that cliff so far.

I didn't get too far in Oblivion. I loved it for a while, but some things became tedious to me. So far in my couple of hours with Skyrim, they seem to have gotten rid of the things that got to me. I can see myself playing this for a very long time. It is effing great!

This. Oblivion had a lot of problems, but I still happily put a lot of hours into it. Oblivion looks like a joke next to Skyrim. So how many hours is Skyrim gonna get?

Just a heads up for people on PS3 (might be a problem on other platform also)

I played for maybe 5-6 hours without problem then my game froze while it was auto-saving. I had to hard reset the PS3 and when I tried to get back in, I got an error message (error 081003 or something like that). I still ended up on the main menu but couldn't load any save. The only option available was new game.

If that happens, just exit the game and go to save data utility and manually delete the last auto-save. Since the game uses 3 slots to auto-save, deleting the last one should not set you back too far.

So, I started my way towards the Greybeards after killing the dragon. Now, this is a dragon that breathed fire in my face multiple times. I'm pretty badass, right? So, on my way through the wilderness, I see a wolf attacking a ram. I decide to go kill it before it finishes and sneaks up on me. As I approach, BOOM SNEAK ATTACK BEAR TIME! One-shotted by a bear. I just took fire breath to the face, but I can't fight off a bear?!

Later, I start my way up the 7000 steps. I find this woman who tells me to watch out for wolves. Thanks, lady, I figured that one out after killing about six or seven before getting to you. I bid her fare-thee-well and proceed...

...to be mauled in the face by a Frost Troll! You'd think that woman might have mentioned something about that.

Smiley: lol I'm having a blast. I switched to a one-handed weapon + magic off-hand build. I keep getting these cool two-handed weapon rewards, but maybe my next character.

Also, this:
