race experience modifiersFollow

#1 Mar 02 2006 at 10:04 PM Rating: Decent
I was playing the other day and someone told me that the giant races get -exp% and the small ones get +exp%. Could someone post the races and their modifiers for a newb like me :)

IIRC troll's and iksar's have a -20% penalty, ogre's have a -15% and halfing's have a +10%? Everyone else is on standard xp. I'm sure someone knows the exact numbers but that should be pretty close.

TILT
Troll/Iksar -20%
Ogre -15%
Barbarians -5%
Halfling +5%

All other races are a 0% modifier including Vah Shir for some reason or another.

As for class modifiers, Warriors and Rogues retained their +5% xp mod despite the eliminate of class penalties. The Powers That Be admitted that if penalties were eliminated then bonuses should be as well but they felt the bonus was minor enough that it wasn't worth the people screaming "Nerf" just to make things fair.

Edit: Thread with testing and cites on the class bonuses in case you're interested.

And for what it is worth, the exp penalty is not noticeable.

Yes, if you compare yourself to someone else in every aspect you'll notice a difference. For example...

You'd have to...

...kill the exact same mobs at the same level.
...hunt in the exact same zones.
...have the exacet same group make up.
...die the same number of times.
...get the exact same rezzes.
...get experience from the exact same quest.
etc.

There are so many ways to gain/lose epxerience in the game that measuring it against some other class/race is nearly impossible.

it is, especially for people who play with the same friends routinely.

it means if you duo/trio/group with the same people, you level slower, and eventually they have to stop for a while to let you catch up.

it means that painful 59 grind and 65-70 take 20% longer.. etc.

It also depends on the road you take to 70. You might notice it less if you plan on flying to 70 in a few days.

EDIT: I was mean/bitter to include the profile link.

Well okay, but only from the standpoint that not everyone needs to be concerned with an xp penalty...

After I wrote it I figured I shouldn't spotlight anyone who has a different playstyle than me. Who am I to say reaching 70 with 12 days /played and then focusing on skills isn't the way to go.

That has got to be a stripped toon used as a bazaar mule or something (I hope, don't mention that 12 day thing to me, I hurts my head).

AC of 1179 on a level 70 sk? OUCH. It'll take an anguish+ geared cleric a full bar of mana to keep it alive against light blue con's.

First hand experience with Iksar's is they do level slower but if you're having fun killing things the penalty won't matter. Iksar's AC bonus is nice as well and the regen is a nice little drop in the bucket as well.

Thank you Jophiel for the link and the list.

Oh and I wasn't going to post about you guys commenting on the profile of my character, but I’ve been commented on that more times than I would have liked. First off the equipment shown on eqplayers is wrong. Second, so I got 70 in 12 days worth of play time what of it. I got great groups and help from many players. I didn’t stop and get time and anguish flagged because I was more intent on having fun and leveling up. So what if I cant tank your Overlord Mata Muram or some other raid mob. People don’t just ding lvl 70 and suddenly have 15k hp and 5k ac. I chose the path of getting 70 first and my equipment second. I pay to play this game just like you do and if I chose to play a way that you don’t like then don't invite me to your group and leave it at that. You don’t have to take my profile and be malicious about it.

I know you removed it from your first post, but still I didn’t ask for you guys to look at character and make fun of the way I play. I only asked about race exp modifiers something I wanted to know about.

Sorry but I wasn't going to take it any longer.

I do apologize Manayan, but seeing the word newb linked to a level 70 toon kept me thinking all day - not about you but about the game in general. Doesn't it mean there's something wrong with the game?

It's not just you, lots of people do it. I like this game a lot, but I wish that part of the game were different.

I guess I wish reaching the highest level in the game meant more than it does. I wish being the highest level in the game carried with it some status that we have attained a certain level of knowledge and experience (and I don't mean points).

But that's not how the game is designed currently, so it's nothing against you personally for playing the way the developers allow (or maybe even intend).

Joe you do make a good point. I think the game has changed. I used to play back when velious was released and the game sure was different. Back then there was more of a status when you capped out your toon. if I ever had a question I would send a tell to a 50+ and they were usually knowledgeable enough to know the answer. I think the developers have slowly made leveling easier since PoP. The developers want more people in the endgame faster. Its pretty obvious that EQ is more focused on raiding and other high level events rather than slowly making your way to the top and learning a lot about the game.

Yes, mathmatically speaking, it does take longer; however, with all of the variables in the game, you will not notice it.

speaking from experience, you most certainly do.

when the level cap is raised, and your guild takes a day or two off raiding to hit the new cap... you show up at the next day of raids as one of the only people not at the cap.

when you only duo your character with an RL friend... when they hit 40, they have to PL you/take xp deaths/or you have to xp some when they aren't on... because you are five levels lower than they are.

etc.

yes, exp modifiers make a difference when levelling. can they outweigh the pros you gain though? yes.

I personally prefer to spent a bit longer levelling but having something I can not buy with time/money (there is no aug i.e. which makes you immune to stuns from the front).

Groogle is right about the raiding. but, how often does that happen? ;)

for some it might be true that they i.e. play every tuesday and Friday for 3 hours each. I don't see that with everyone though.

on top of that, I for instance used to play with the same crowd, same race (all Iksars), but fell behind. why? I had LS exp turned on. Smiley: lol
