I truly love this game, I really do.

I decided to redo my Divine Might earring. So I followed the instructions dropped my old one(leaving me without any earring), got a Light ore, illumink and parchment and waited for the next full moon. OK, it was the second full moon as that pesky RL thing got in the way through the week.

Some of my shellmates and I were in the chasm farming up some THF boots (took 3 days but are you ever in luck if you're a MNK) and they finally dropped.. Feeling pretty good we were going to run over and do a little Dyna when I noticed my full moon was near. So I bailed, grabbed my stuff and headed with great anticipation on up to Ro'maeve... where I sat on the Group W bench with a dozen other adventurers watching the dolls meander about.

Six hours later, near 1 in the morning, full moon ended without the toilet bowl filling even once. And I thought camping kings was a PITA. The good news is that in 4 days I get to do this again... starting @ 3:19 AM.

Really S-E ? Really?!

Run fields of valor when it's raining or thundery? You'd at least get something out of your stay there.

Maybe you could check the /clock and see what in-game season/month you camped the full moon? It won't show up as often in spring or fall, as one could expect of rainy seasons.

Please don't defend FFXI's crappy weather system like that. "Seasons" really shouldn't be a factor when you start demanding people schedule play around 2 week spans RL where their ability to actually play may be in question. While most weather complaints do relate to trials (Fire and Light in particular), the fountain thing is one of those situations where clear weather is vital on top of the moon phase. I can also think of a quest that depends on foggy weather.

Since I don't see SE directly tweaking weather patterns anytime soon, a solution this problem in Ro'Maeve could be putting two "Zilartian Weather Devices" behind the moon gates. When activated simultaneously, clear weather is guaranteed for 5 minutes. And just to make sure people don't grief it for others who do need thunder/rain arcana kills, it would have a half hour cooldown timer.

I had exactly the same experience, along with at least 8 others. I was there on Saturday through all of the Full Moon period. There was not 1 second of clear weather. I know that that zone has more rain and thunder during spring but this is ridiculous. Making a quest require full moon, only 3 game hours window each game day plus clear weather must be SE's old view of balance. There's a thread on the official site about this also.

Or a simplified solution would be to remove the requirement of clear weather and just make it require no elemental weather going on.

The simplest solution would be for it to work under any weather. I know it's not realistic for the moon to be visible during a thunderstorm covering the entire area, but at some point gameplay has to come before realism. The game should not be made more annoying in an attempt to be realistic, especially where weather is concerned. We are already fully capable of wearing bikinis and metal underpants while traipsing through a blizzard with no ill effects. I think it's OK to fudge things a bit with lunar visibility.

Of course, we all know the reason it's like this isn't due to realism. It's an intentional roadblock to accessing Divine Might, so the OP's being "unlucky" is basically working as intended. In fact it's more sadistic than realistic. It serves no purpose other than to have made a few people feel special years ago, and that's a rather dubious purpose especially now.

Making a few people feel lucky is at the heart of their end game designs though. They love to create all manner of appealing rewards for every job only to make them require a lot of luck to get. A perfect example is logwatch and an even more perfect is the original neo nyzule's design. Post adjustment neo nyzule is borderline sadistic with its 25 runs per key item tweak (that's honestly a very high number for one piece of gear)., but it maintains the trend. If you find the end game events entertaining or enjoy the battle's then that's where the real value is for most players, because the tangible rewards come in spurts and are overall a measure of luck against the random number generator. The only place they've ever incorporated a solid progression scheme where you can measure a foreseeable time/benefit ratio is abyssea, and that's never coming back. May the dice be in your favor.

You only need to clear F100 once for the key item, though.

It's only 25 clears if you shoot for F80 instead, but who's gonna bother doing that? If F100 is impossible for you to reach, it's not like F80 is gonna be a cakewalk in comparison. Chances are any group that can occasionally make it to F80 will be able to manage a few F100s if they just kept going.

Don't get me wrong, it's still a sadistic event.

Where SE is concerned, "working as intended" is seldom a good thing. I think you're probably saying that since it's working as intended it isn't likely to change. You're probably right, but crap is still crap whether it's intentional or an accident. It still stinks.

Oh, I'm well aware of how Tanaka rolls. The problem is, the endgame events are seldom entertaining on their own merits without there being a reward for either myself or my friends. If I want to just screw around and kill time endgame events are not the place to do it. I'd rather do Campaign, non-AFK XP in Abyssea, or find something to solo on my BST.

I like seasons. I don't like how there are quests which make me wait for specific weather or a specific moon phase to complete.

The weather system is fine. Weather-based magian trials and quests like this are the problem.

I spent about 2 weeks, seemed like waiting for the water to come up in the fountain with moon. Sigh this game is the biggest time sync ever. Probably why my playdays are through the roof
