Boy, hope this post generates a bit of responses since I'm feeling lonely on these forums. Please don't force me to move to the <ugh> EQ forums!*

I "maxed" my alc tolerance at 200 ages ago and didn't realize the cap has crept up to 575! Jeez, I'm a real lightweight now! It's embarassing!

So I went to bar in Katta, since I was roaming around re-exploring old zones. Kinda fun place where the drunks bust out with nonsensical statements from time to time, and the bartenders chastise then, even threatening to cut them off. But the Katta drinking laws must be very tolerant since I haven't seen a drunk NPC ever thrown out and they keep harping on with their stupid observations undeterred by the harried barmaids and barguys.

IN any case, I bought some of the cheapest swill they had, interesting Luclin brands distilled from Owlbird brains and Sonic bat detritus, etc. Real yummy-sounding brewskis.

I didn't really keep track but I was able to "skill up" pretty much 1 point per drink from 200 to about 275. Then the skill ups got a little less than 1:1 but they still came pretty often. The brews cost like a 1sp apiece, so not worried about cost. I was worried about reaching blocking points since I read on some old forums that some guys had to click on 150 drinks to get 1 skillup at "higher" levels, and those posts were old so by "higher" they meant 300 or so. Ouch!

Of course, those posts were back in the day when this game was actually tough to play and the Care Bears hadn't broken down the entry door. Not today!!

Got to 350-ish and the skillups were now coming about 1 in every 3 drinks, which means I had to start buying more often and bigger stacks from the poor harried barmaid who's still having to threaten the town drunks with banishment for their inane shouts. The music got annoying too since someone not evident in the room is playing a sea chanty of some sort and someone else, also not in the room, is signing along very badly. (Remember the Monty Python cheese shop sketch? Those guys playing, singing and dancing in the back until John Cleese yells at them to stop? I felt like that altho in EQ they never stop...)

Got to about 400 and the skillup rate drops to 1 in 4 (about) so I really have to booze it up big time now. I might have to start spending... GOLD pieces! However, I notice that because my AT is so high now, I AM RECOVERING FROM DRUNKEDNESS MUCH FASTER! In fact, I'm getting close to being able to non-stop guzzle... the time when I'm so loaded, I can't get any drunker is very short now. So while I have TO DRINK MORE, the good news is... I CAN DRINK MORE!

So spending gold pieces unlike sewer covers I fill an entire bag (10-slot, not 40, what you think I'm a raving drunk?!) with Owlbear Spittle Brew and guzzle myself all the way to 500! Woot, end of the line in sight! And no Katta cop has tried to toss me out onto the street yet.

But now the skillups come rather infrequently. Sometimes 1 in 10. Sometimes so rare I start to think I may have hit a hidden halfling AT cap! But, wait, I'm playing a damn HALFLING! We drink with the best of the races. We can keep up even with dorfs if someone else pays for the booze! So the RNG starts turning in my favor and the dings start coming and soon enough, after maybe about a half dozen refills of my 10-slot bag (well, 16-slot now, to be safe) I get to 570.

5 dings to go! I have to admit these were sloooooow but what am I going to do, stop with the finish line directly in sight!? NOT THIS HALFLING!! So I force myself to down about 50 more Ownling Spittle Brews, along with a stack of Sonic Bat P#ss** Lagers, and sure enough... DING 575!

I'm now a proud truly and fully FULL-BLOWN ALCOHOLIC HOBBIT!***

Just don't remind me that the cap is probably going to 600 next month with the expansion. I don't need to hear that now, because my head is really really really hurtin'!

*Seriously, those forums scare me. I posted some innocent and brief (by my standards) comment concerning warrior dps of some weapon a while back and there followed a string of responses each of which had content suitable only for an engineering journal... a PHD engineering journal. Some players (not saying who but melee types high on the list) take this GAME (very operative word here) far too seriously!!

**Can you believe the bad worD filter doesn't like "p*ss"?

***This is a post about DRINKING! Surely, everyone who reads this has an opinion and/or exciting story about drinking, either IRL or (preferably) in-game! Just don't post long technical stats about how a drunken warrior does so much more/less damage per swing when loaded... PLEASE! Just post NOW before the devs discover that encouraging drinking alcohol in an online game is decidely politically INcorrect and all the game's booze vanishes in a fit of extreme temperance (wow, there's a oxymoron if I ever saw one!)

I hate Trade skills and I consider Booze trade skills
their was some Quest in TDS I had to get a certain level for Booze - pain in the A...
I have only maxed my old Raiding Sham to 200 for a Raid it was needed for.
Booze is free during the Anniversary in POK booths I would buy some but never maxed my current raid toon yet a Wiz.
But I expect some futer raid I will need to be maxed Booze some day so I keep leveling
But did I say I hate Tradeskills.... what a pain in the A..

Just a reminder that fastest skill-ups come when one keeps drunken status at the maximum. Have another when that little jolt tells that you can drink again.

I forget where it was, but some years ago, one of the zones or events was tuned for high alcohol tolerance. They could do it again.

LOL skilling it up now is ridiculously easy.

I had added a hotkey with a stack of 1000 beers, so I'd keep at it, trying for skillups. Went from 200-210 getting about 1 skillup for every 40-50 tries. Then they had the patch last winter where skillups came much faster if you were way behind your current cap. Started getting skillups every 1-3 tries, all the way into the high 300s.

Must admit. it was rather easy. I did all that while doing some work on a second computer nearby. To raise a skill from 200 to 575 in under 2 very casual hours and for an expenditure of what had to be less than 20pp... well, did I mention the Care Bears have infested Norrath?

Yes, it was ridiculously slow before, and now it's ridiculously easy. Seems they can never get it quite right ;)

That does happen a lot. They always seem to overcorrect big time. So a class that's seriously over-powered is nerfed to the point where it can barely perform its essential functions. It's like a basketball or hockey game where the refs called a lot of questionable penalties on one side for half the game and then during the second half they "fix it" by calling picky penalties on the other team.

Remember how tough language skills used to be to raise? And on FV that was a fairly big deal since there was no common tongue.

As I recall, you had to group with someone with a higher language skill, speak in group until you got 5 skillups (which required TIME) and then zone before you could continue. There might even have been a daily cap on skill-ups, not sure about that. I just know that on FV it was a BIG achievement to max all language skills. I had a friend who worked on it on and off for months and I think he quit the game without having maxed them all. He was kind of OCD so he might even have quit the entire game out of frustration lol!

Guilds hosting weekend language fairs in East Freeport were popular player events and widely attended. I remember people being annoyed with me because I refused to teach them Thieves Cant. I'd share all my language skills, but sharing Cant was a bridge too far. Thinking back I seem to recall rogues shouting roleplay threats in Cant about sharing the language with non-rogues.

Yeah, a good role-playing rogue should have his license taken away for sharing Thieves Cant with ordinary folks.

Reminds me of how hobos would put marks on gates outside of farmsteads to indicate to other hobos whether the farmer (or more likely, his wife) was going to be good for a handout or more likely to use a shotgun.

I don't understand wine tasting. You have this premium wine you swish around like mouth wash then you spit it out bah !

Plenty of bottles of wine have tried to run from me with no avail !

Check out the movie SIDEWAYS. Two guys go on a last fling right before one of them is getting married, in the California wine country. They visit various wineries where the elite are testing wines and spitting out their mouthfuls into these big tubs. One of the two guys gets loaded and his buddy chastises him for drinking so much. The first guy gets pissed and says, basically, "I'll drink as much as I want." He picks up a big container of wine and starts to guzzle it down until his buddy tells him he's drinking out of...

the spit bucket.

LOL

Sippin's surname was FOURTIES for a long time. Then I changed it to CHARDONNAY. Then BLACKANDTAN. I have no surname at this time.

Is that a wine tasting, or wine judging (for competitions)?

My understanding was "wine tastings" was kinda like the free samples at Costco. Just to let you try a few things to see if you like them, but not so silly as to spitting it out.

At wineries you can go either way. Actually drink, spit out or a little of each. If you drink every sample you're probably not going to be able to sample for long.

Swallow or spit... where else have I heard that question?
