Logged in today and noticed a familiar name in the same zone. I sent a tell, and sure enough it was an old guildie who had changed servers many years ago when our guild disbanded. He recently came back to see what the game was like today. What are the odds of playing a lowbie char on a new server and this occurring?

Well, we started chatting about our guild (my 1st EQ guild) and how it would never likely ever come near to being formed today. We were Venom Brood, an all Iksar guild on the 7th Hammer. Never had a chance to go anywhere as how can you raid without Clerics, lol.

So, were any of you in what could be considered strange or weird guilds?

My brother and his then-girlfriend started an evil-only roleplay encouraged guild on Rodcet Nife server <Rise of Darkness>. Something like 140+ characters at one point and probably 90 of them were necromancers. I started out as a human rogue but got convinced to be a dark elf enchanter to "support guild efforts". Guild was a bit more successful in content when they opened it up a bit... but it was more fun with the narrow vision. He and I have revived that guild (just for us to dabble) on a couple of occasions on different servers. The original guild died in 2004, but I still remember other players like Ubeen, Galfos, Xetnifien, Senenuala (could never spell it right and didn't here), Auronio, Gravens and Dragonnok. Oh and the 7 year old girl we had in the guild with a purple froglok paladin named Purplehaze (or something close to that). Her paladin skills > mine to this day.

I have a defunct playerkiller guild on Trakanon server called <Red is Best> that never really took off, granted we didn't even try to recruit. Got lots of puzzled tells from people though.

I was in a progression guild called <Kicking Snakes> when snakes still kicked in EQ. That was a cool bunch, but it fizzled out not long after I got caught up in level to the main core. TSS was new content at this time.

I have some alts in the old, old Allakhazam poster guild <Aude Sapere> (did I spell that right?) which I basically was in when only Jonwin and Alwayslost were logging in with any regularity. What's neat about that guild is the way-back Zam connections that still have characters parked there. <Lunar Mutant Rights Now> is similar in that it was a whim born out of a thread discussion here... I mostly credit Jophiel. That was a fun couple of months pushing Luclin content. We got strongly to the 50s with a core, but lacked numbers/enthusiasm to push further (with in-era gear only from Luclin we kind of capped ourselves out without much bigger numbers).

I have an enchanter in <Unholy Czars> which is not a strange or weird guild per say, but has the cool habit of not deleting membership until it's been a real long time. It's very cool to login to a guild with 2000+ members and many have been active in the last year (at least last time I checked). I think Jonwin is still playing in there too.

----

I've run into Swiftwulfe (a monk I knew from Rodcet Nife days being in some guilds together) years later when mergers of mergers reunited characters I had moved long away. He'd kept my old main's name on his friends list for like 7 years... that was really cool actually. I'm going to see if I can find him. You've inspired me KC13.

Haha!! Venom Brood! I remember you guys :) Had a few interactions with some of you, back in the day. Don't remember any details, but seem to recall you were a pleasant lot. I do remember a couple clerics I knew being asked to join groups with them, for the aforementioned reason you stated... needed a cleric for anything tough back then!

My early guilds were Disciples of Stone, Jesters League of Antonica, and Ethereal, if any of those ring a bell.

Funny story.. my first night in EQ >ever<, I lost my corpse under the trees in Kelethin. A couple nice folks came to my aid, and spent about half an hour looking (even though we never found it), and then quite a while answering questions I had. Shout out to Tiliani and Martle, I'm sure you'll never see this, but thanks. Anyway, I added them to my friends list (the first entries), and would occasionally send them a tell and catch up on things, and thank them again for their kindness.

Well, many years later (I wanna say 2006 or 2007), I hit my friends key, and who's logged in, but Martle! I sent him a tell, and blew his mind, he had just logged in for the first time in years, and couldn't believe that someone he new was sending him a tell.

Those old times I miss. The game is fun for me these days, but nothing comes close to what it was way back when :)

My first guild was First Order of Blood Knights, fondly they live in my memory. This was an all-Iksar guild on Bristlebane server. Players felt that the guild was doomed because of a lack of clerics; if only we knew then what we know now - that the shaman would become a good healer - more might have stuck around. However, our esteemed leader grew miffed with management particularly about the appearance of the cultural armor of the time on shadow knights. He was so upset that eventually he committed character suicide by going into a dungeon in that expansion and inviting the mobs to end his existence. Neither he nor his alts ever came back. And not long afterward the guild dissolved.

He made one post on these forums as I am aware:

So what I hear is... KC13 and Grove want to start an all-Iksar guild.

What server? Smiley: nod

I wonder if there's ever been a REALLY successful one-race guild? I've heard of iksar guilds, ogre guilds, Halfling guilds, "Little people" guilds (a bit broader restriction, but let's throw it in), "elf guilds" (same comment) and probably others but most don't seem to last too long. They're usually set up as a lark without a lot of serious commitment. And that's fine cuz a game is to be played for fun. Anyone know of such a guild that has lasted a long time and thrived? I can't even think of a good- or evil-restricted guild that has lasted a long time (outside of the Zek servers) although I certainly am not familiar with every guild and it wouldn't shock me if there have been some.

I had a similar experience with my 2nd ever char, also on 7th Hammer. My Dark Elf Necromancer, Darlokki, lost his corpse in Nektulos. I was frantically running around when I got a tell saying the corpse had decayed. Then, another saying to meet at the Neriak entrance. There, I met another DE Necro and was given a ton of items. I wish I could remember her name, but what I do remember was her guild, The Dark Exile. She must have been the one and only nice member as over the years, guilds I have been a member of, had several "run ins" with said TDE. No matter, I had and always will have a soft spot for them due to that one member.

I also remember TDE. In one of my early guilds, the co-leader left for TDE. He really wanted to raid, and our guild (which was all groups of people who were friends IRL) should have been called Herding Cats :)

He was a good guy, and still came around for some of our events, and grouped with us when he was free (OP wizzy for the nice DPS!). But, yeah, overall, their rep on the server was not a real good one.

I have been playing EQ now since March 2000, and except for a short break have always been an EQ addict! I too was on the Seventh Hammer, and remember a lot of the Guilds that were on that Server during its time.
My first guild was called <Jesters of Norrath> and was comprised mostly of RL friends, with names I also still have in my friends list with the hope of one day seeing pop up. Amdeng, Hooke, Dimmsumm, Ciani, Sardaan, Azzkikr was a few of the many friends I had there!! <Disciples of the Void> was my 2nd Guild, and was a big part of forming the first on 7th Hammer server Coalition of Planar Progression (CPP), which was designed to help non raiding members of Seventh Hammer to progress through PoP.! I soon transitioned to <Savage Arms> and became a full time raider until I retired in 2008.
Back before PoTime became and Instance, there were battles to see who could complete the Tier 1 Trails faster to see which guild got to progress to Tier 2. Aditunnas, GL of Savage Arms and the GL of TDE used to always get into zone wide /shout and /ooc arguments about which guild was there first and who was going to raid those old PoP zones! Lots of laughs when I look back on it now!!
I may forget some, but, between The Dark Exile (TDE), Fires Within, Forged Souls, Savage Arms, Lunacy Unbound, and Diligence, that pretty much was the top tier Raiding Guilds on 7th Hammer from 2001 till they merged with Lanys sometime after I left. I didn't return to playing till 2012.
I remember a guild named Mithrilmoon Mystics from back then also. Always thought that was a cool name for a Guild.

Way the heck back in the day there was Sisters of Saryrn, an all female guild (on Saryrn, naturally). You didn't have to be a woman in real life to join but you did have to have a female character and, of course, act respectfully in the guild to the other members. I spent a short stint there with my first real main, a human female cleric of Erollisi Marr but they weren't especially active, mostly just a smallish casual chat guild.

Rodcet Nife had some fun ones... see how many I remember correctly (and probably some of them are Quellious guilds from merger round 1 that I have just attributed to Rodcet because that's where I started):

<couch potatoes>
<drunken fishermen>
<Unity in Rodcet>
<Casters Alliance> (or something like that... they were all caster classes and the guild mission was helping others... so they'd show up in random places and buff you, or go to crazy lengths to get you rezzed.

<Sons of Kings> --some very cool people were in that guild in it's heyday
<Claws of Coldain> --an era-locked guild that stopped with Velious content and was still somewhat active into LoY era
<Ascent> --the uber guild all us newbs were in awe of
<Outcast Adventurers> about OoW era they became worthy of "elite raiding guild" status, and were pretty respected on the server. Another top guild wasn't particularly loved.

...and a guild with dragon in there name (I know... rare right?) but a pretty big family guild that did raid content without the high-end pressure or drama. Again very respected on the server.

There was an all-girl guild on 7th also.... Amazon Storm maybe? Can't remember for sure, but Amazon was in the name.

I'm not quite social enough for guilds, which is not to say that I haven't joined any.

When invited, my troll could not help but join <Is Not An Elf> on Luclin. It was never particularly active, but that was OK.

I see now that there are also one <Is Not In A Guild> and two <This Is Not a Guild> guilds.

On Fippy, I joined <Whatelseyougonnado>, which was basically a guy, his gf, and me. Again, it never got anywhere, but the name amuses me.

Because I am an experimenter, I eventually created my own guild just to look at the options the leader gets. Because I'm "of a certain age," I named it <Killing Is My Business>.

I don't have any strange guild experiences, but in the interest of having something to contribute, I note that there are <Bored Players>, <Bored to Death>, <Boredom>, and <Rampant Boredom>.

Also, <Looting Please Wait> and <For All the Awesome Loot>.

Strangely, most of the frog-named guilds don't seem to have actual frogloks in them.

Sisterhood of Roses was an all female good race guild on druzzil ro. It was quite successful for 4 or 5 years.

Legion of Grobb was an all troll guild on druzzil ro. With no healers, it only lasted a few months but was fun watching 40 or 50 trolls run around kunark.

There was an all-froglok guild on Rodcet back in LoY era. They weren't boxers and it was just 5 real-life friends family doing stuff together. I know about it because they let my dark elf cleric join a Dulak group to get the Temperance spell drop. I can't remember the tag, but it was pretty cool seeing a pack of froggies tearing stuff up together.

An all-froglok guild now (with the addition of rogues, monks and SK) is one of the more class diverse non-human (or Drakkin) single race options you could try and do.
