Premium Service character upgrade searchFollow

#1 Jan 28 2015 at 10:41 PM Rating: Decent
All,

I've been away from EQ for a few years and decided to come back and give it a go again. I used to be a premium Allakhazam subscriber, and had created profiles here for my toons. One of the things I used the most was the character upgrade search, where I could load each character's profile and do an upgrade search where Allakhazam's would recommend upgrades from what I was wearing, based on the search criteria I'd selected.

When I logged onto the site tonight, for the first time in years, I wasn't able to find much initially. I checked out what was offered for premium subscribers, and they clearly state as one of the benefits of paying for this level of support that you can load your characters, and do "Character upgrade search"es. Figuring in for a penny, in for a pound, I went ahead and paid for a year's subscription.

Now, however, while I can find my old characters loaded, there doesn't appear to be any way of editing the profiles (to either update equipment or to put them on their new server, post consolidation). Further the search function itself seems to be severely gimped and I see no way of being able to have Allakhazam (or ZAM, I suppose) compare my severely outdated equipment and offer recommendations as how I should upgrade based on my class and level. The only reason I paid for premium service was so that I could have this ability. Being out of the game for so long, I don't know what's great gear anymore, and what I could look to buy in the bazaar (or loot myself) for my toons, and this was a way for me to quickly and painlessly learn this.

So my question to you all is did I miss something and these features are still there (or maybe I have to wait a day for things to sync up), or did they stop supporting these features but not correct the "benefits you get by being a premium subscriber" page on their info page. I will be somewhat upset if the latter is the case, as indicated earlier, those features were why I paid the subscription fee.

Any clarity you can provide me is greatly appreciated.

Thanks,

-Tim

Sorry all, disregard. It just started working for me! I don't know how or why it didn't before, but it is now. Smiley: blush

Maybe also tell us what server you're on and some folks here could assist you as well? Give advice? Group? Guild with?

We'll do it. We're weird like that.Smiley: tongue

Fr Bijou,

Thanks for the advice. The three toons shown in my sig block below are my characters, and I find myself on Drinal now. But I'm in no position to be able to group or guild for a bit. My UI is all messed up (does anyone have a good one to recommend over stock?), I don't remember what my spell lines-up are, and I'd be much more of a danger to groups than mobs. For example, last night my necro accidentally auto-attacked that SK quest-giver in Overthere, and I found that feign death wasn't loaded anywhere, and had to sprint to Skyfire to stop him from beating on me. Although I did gain a few hard-earned skill points in dodge on the way. :-)

This is actually my second return to EQ, and I think the changes this time are much more confusing than last time. I'll probably end up rolling up a toon and just having him go through the tutorial just to walk through some of the more basic changes.

At least I have a fair amount of plat on hand ... I used to do trade skills (researching low to high-end spells mostly) and dumpster dive for profit a lot, so I should be able to upgrade my character's gear a little now, while I get my bearings. I didn't raid much before, so most of my gear was bazaar bought and small group/solo-able, and I was close to the top end for a character equipped that way could be. But I'm somewhat surprised at how very few equipment upgrades the database here shows for my levels ... I expected a huge difference given that I've been away almost six years. Augments improvements seem to have jumped a lot more than gear. I honestly thought that there would be a lot of cheap upgrades from newer stuff from the expansions I'd missed which had been all farmed out and was selling for a song. Ah well, I'll need to level up to get the good stuff, I guess.

Anyway, if any casual guilds on Drinal are looking for a Paladin, Cleric, and/or Necro, let me know, and I'll look you up once I'm able to play my characters again with some semblance of competency for their levels.

OK I give up! I've been trying to find this feature with NO luck!

Zam does a good job of burying some features in the site, probably because it's been built up repeatedly on the shoulders of other programmers.

Can someone point to the spot on the site? If it's blatantly obvious, I will /bonk myself in advance. Smiley: blush

Sippin,

I agree with you, that it is very hard to find. But ... go to the upper right hand corner of any page, and to where your account name is in light blue letters. Put your mouse over the name you'll see 8 options, one of which is "characters". Click on that and you should come to a page with your characters listed. Click on the character you want to look at. Once there, near the top of the middle of the page, just a little higher than your character's name, is some choices in small blue letters ... profile, edit gear, etc. Click on "tools" and it will take you to the equipment upgrader. You have to have "premium service" aka pay a monthly fee for the tools to work, I'm almost certain.

Let me know if this doesn't make sense!

Nice! Thanks for the info. Potentially very useful altho with how buried it is, I can't imagine too many players use it.

Be nice if it could import from Magelo, too. Or even just import from EQ's "outputfile inventory" command.

I'm not sure if Magelo doesn't offer something similar. I have a paid Magelo account but I haven't delved too deeply into that either.

I do use this site a lot for checking gear upgrades so this is worth the effort to manually edit my character if it will do the upgrade searches for me.

Thanks! Allahazam should hype this on their home page...

Assuming defiant was already in the game when you last played (and I think it was), that's not surprising at all. Your characters are all in the low 70s. The new stuff has all been added to higher level gear as they've progressed through those levels (now up to 105). There hasn't been any gear updates for that level range. Defiant was added in as a default gear for anyone to use while progressing past those levels. Not a lot of reason to spend time on new/better gear.

The next big upgrade for you really wont happen until level 80/82. That's when the HoT stuff becomes available. There are some bit pieces that you can find along the way, but I'd really just focus on getting to level 80 and buying/grouping for HoT gear. It's a night and day jump in terms of quality and nothing between what you've got and that gear will really be worth spending much time getting in the meantime. At that point, there's a pretty even curve of gear upgrades ahead of you that will certainly keep you occupied. But yeah, there's not really going to be anything new for the level 70 range.
