How To Win EQ!!Follow

#1 Jan 20 2015 at 1:24 AM Rating: Decent
I play one character in a large leveling/progression guild on Firiona Vie. I put my heart and soul into that toon, all my plat too. I research my class, quests, and try to be the best I can. If a guildmate needs help, I drop what I'm doing and rush to their aid, any way I can. I am constantly frustrated by players that disguise themselves in ignorance (or really are so) or laziness and exhaust the time, patience and resources of their fellow players. I believe that these folks are killing the dedicated fan base and have been for years. Along those lines, this is how you win Everquest:

First, create a bunch of different toons, fill that server selection screen! If you are have a paid account, make a heroic character: it will give the illusion that you have been around and know your class. Don't worry about gear, leaning the game, your class or anything else, that comes later.

Second, join a large(bigger the better) friendly and helpful guild. Ask for guild groups. When in that group, if anyone discovers that you are completely inept, say the following, "Sorry, my gear sucks" or "Sorry, returning player here" or "God, its been so long since I've played this <class>!" After you have killed everyone in your group several times, apologize profusely and ask them what you are doing wrong, ask to borrow money, ask for advise, ask for something from them. They only exist to serve you right? They aren't there to enjoy the game, heavens no! If you get gear from them, wear it for a week then put it on a trader. If they give you coin, put it in the bank and save it. If they give you advise, well you can't sell that, so disregard it.

Third, ask to have all your alts invited to the guild. Try to get in as many as possible so that a) fewer people will catch on to what a negative contributor you are to their team and b) you will be harder to remove from that cash cow...err, I mean guild. Repeat step two with all your alts. Eventually, you will level them all up due to the fact that most players are very nice and sympathetic to idiots.

Fourth, get raid invites! This is the big money here so don't skip this step. If you can manage it, try to log in more than one of your alts during the raid. Because you have sold all or most of the decent gear given to you or drops from groups on your trader, virtually every raid drop is an upgrade for you!

It is important to remember that performing your class or role poorly is a huge plus!

-If you are a tank, the elder senior tanks of the guild will devote time to teaching you (taking away from their game play, also a plus: if you can slow down those ahead of you, they will soon be behind you right?), throw AC augs at you, aggro weapons, etc.

-If you are a healer, the same may occur as mentors come out of the woodwork to shower you with gear and advise. You may notice that healer mercs will accompany your groupmates.....you are doing it right!

-If you are a dps class, yes, you will get the same treatment as tank and healers do, but also the added benefit that because you suck so badly at your job, you will be lower on the aggro list than the dpsers that are pulling your weight. This works in group or raid.

Make sure you stay with this guild as long as you can, make a lot of friends, and generally apologize often. If you can conjure up some story about being a veteran, being disabled, spouse or children issues, or some rampant tragedy in your family, you will be categorically forgiven for anything. Squeeze that guild and its players for all they are worth. Don't forget the guild bank; its like the fridge of need rolls! Appear humble when asking for items from it: "Please guild officer, may I just have this rusty dagger?" Bet you get a good item! Put that on the trader too.

Repeat steps 1-4 on a Free-To-Play account(another one, if you are already). Learn the nuances of poverty, prestige items versus non-prestige.

If you become good at this overall scam, you might try your hand at a raiding guild. They are much more stringent and wise to slick scammers such as yourself (some of them even are so themselves and will not appreciate the competition). You will find kind and patient hearts their as well; however, and you can squeeze them dry!

If you get booted from either the raiding guild(or cant get into one), do not fear, the song has not ended! You should, by now, have several very high level toons and one trader. Simply haul your Ubah L33tness out to old world zones and camp rare and valuable drops. Rare epic drops which can be traded are a must! Why? Dedicated players get epics. Demoralizing those folks just means less bodies to climb over on your way to the top! If you can get one person of your class to leave Everquest, doesn't your Magelo rank improve? Now, you could just destroy those items you camp on all your alts, or perhaps even sell them to the folks who keep coming to your camp (yes, its your camp, you own EQ, they are just a nuisance, not really people)!

If you follow this simple guide, you too will win EQ! Better hurry though, many players have already caught on........

I feel your pain but, you know, if you let yourself be turned into a doormat, SOME people will walk all over you.

I love to help newcomers and returnees, whether in my guild or not. I've given them plat, gear and some PLing, along with my most valuable "gift": advice. But I use my head. I give them reasonable amounts and I advise them to earn some levels on their own and come back when they've dinged a certain level and I'll offer some more help. I add them to my friends list and watch to see if they are playing at least semi-regularly.

It doesn't take ME long at all to recognize the "greedy beggars", like some of those you describe. Then I stop giving them anything but advice and that advice is usually to start doing some of the game "work" on their own. They get the message.

You're right about one thing: a well-managed guild should pick up on this kind of behavior fast. Guild banks can be restricted and the membership can be warned about lazy and greedy players. Raids require participation and performance is easily measured with various tools available to guild leaders. If you don't show up regularly, or if you show up and don't fulfill your class responsibilities, a well-managed guild is going to deal with that. Nobody gets a lot of gear in a capable raiding guild without pulling their own weight.

What I read from your comments is that you've been overly generous with your time and treasure and you've gotten burned. I salute you for your generosity since the game NEEDS new and returning players and helping them out is good for all of us. But I have to fault you a bit for letting others abuse your generosity.

Keep being generous, just be a bit more cautious with who you help.

You may be reading some of these people wrong, a lot of what you said could be my son when he was 10, he thought people were his friends and he didn't mean any harm.

Also there are some people who are not that intelligent who play think maybe even handicapped and some that are just not getting to play very often, they don't have the time to get that great at their part but they can be seen to try.
