Why is it that some of he simple things in life here on EQ has been taken away. Infravsion for one, a fairly simple code, that fell by the way side and has made playing hybrids like playing a human. I play a lot of different character races and like them all. I prefer playing the hybrid because back in the day it was interesting on the Infravision and what not.I can remember when i played my first human that holy cow..i can't see a thing at night so have to work toward a fire beetle eye. Go back to the simpler way of doing somethings or should i say harder since we have lost the reason for a corpse run or for anything that is not just for the EXP grinds.

sorry for the rant been waiting for many years to type this.

The Care Bears have invaded Norrath. Simple as that. God Forbid any player should have to make an effort to see in the dark or find his corpse. Heck, I'm surprised players below the level of 85 can still even DIE!

I suspect that some of the changes were simply made because:

1. More popular competition didn't do it that way
2. They (SoE) were tired of support/GM petitions over the same kinds of issues (corpse runs comes to mind here).

The vision thing (to my recall) was half broke (in that the variance between the "tiers" of vision was no longer as per original design") in some patch. Since then (or in the later years if my memory on the first statement is false) the effects were put on so many easy to obtain items that you would have to purposely play blind as it were.

To me, corpse runs had become silly once PoP gave us insta to most of the world travel and had graveyards in most of its zones. In that setup a "respawn at bind or respawn in zone gy" pop-up would have made far more sense.

When I was younger I used to ice, rock and mountain climb a lot….There the consequences were high but the inner reward was even higher. In my years I have come to the conclusion that the more the challenge the higher the reward. Nothing gain without pain. Same with EQ… when we first started in 1999 there were things like corpse decay, begging for or bartering for binds and ports, killing things for mere silver and copper. But the learning curve and challenges were high and this made it more FUN or at least to me.
Two examples; I remember running from Qeynos to Freeport, took me a few hours, sound turned up so I could hear anything in the distance…hiding and avoiding, worried about dying and thinking if I was able to get to corpse on time? But I made it, was mentally exhausted but the mental reward was great.
My first fungi cost me 33k and took forever to save up, only to lose it on Rallos due to falling asleep at the keyboard….but the consequence or success = the reward.
Have to agree with Sippin & Snailish, majority of people still like to be spoon-fed. We lost a lot of population to the other games because they were so dumb-downed for the masses, and EQ bent to the competition. I wonder if we would have the same base now with us hardcore loyal players if some of the consequences were still in the game?

Did they change something with the default vision? Honestly, it's been so long since ultravision items weren't commonly available, that I never noticed. Honestly, in the grand scheme of things, having fun is all that matters. Of course, "having fun" means different things to different people...
