Ages since an update.

My excuse is that I haven't been playing at all. Subs have lapsed. Real life has me mostly good-busy and time is just not available. I've also been lacking any real in-game motivation since the December holiday season deflated the Mutants momentum.

I actually feel a more regular need/want to check in on these forums. They're probably my favourite part of the game at this point.

SOE's best bet to get me back at this point would be a new progression server. My personal preference would be for one with long timed locks that have nothing to do with the best raid guild racing kills, and possibly even an expansion pack stop point (anything from Velious to LDoN I could be excited by... but a mountless server would really do it so pre-Luclin I suppose). I could play original for at least 6 months without going stone-bored (or needing alts lol). Kunark would easily hold me for a year...

...whether such a server would hold a viable population is an entirely different tale. Oh well.

What have people been up to? In game and RL (if you like).

Been playing a lot of ESO...a really cool game, by the way. It got kicked a lot because it isn't Skyrim, but it has some really cool ideas and a boat ton of quests....I love to explore so this game is very good for that.

I would totally start up on an expansion server like that...or would start an expansion guild if you so chose Snail....Smiley: sly

Real life is real busy...CIF track starts next week and I am working fill time at the Y, so not a lot of gaming time, but real life is good so...Smiley: grin

I'm still getting used to the increased power of my characters so I'm swapping out a lot. Trying to come up with a plan going forward which might just boil down to 'level the under 85s to 85 and then switch back to the 100 group'. I've read about the crazy nerfs coming with this month's update so I'm bracing myself for that.

Took my 75 Paladin and a few other 70s to my spot in Loping Plains and cut a wide swath through treants to get Blacksmithing Mastery. I'm hoping at some point, they'll actually fix the 'make all' functionality though I'm not optimistic. In the meantime, I've programmed my Nostromo speedpad to hit the combine button. Got my formerly 73 wizard to 75 so now I have to make her (Rk. II) spells. I'm playing on Test so it's also possible I'd buy all the Rk IIs and also the Rk IIIs from Katta Castellum then re-copy her and level her to 75 again. But given the plan, that may not be worth it since she's not going to be 75 for very long.

Might buy a guild village on Test. Give me some place to set up houses so I can block stupid mod rods again.

I've been all out grinding AA's the last couple weeks including last weekend, to fill all of the latest ranks of important AA's on my 95 SK while upgrading a few outdated AC augs where possible.

This is because to my dismay he was smashed by a City Of Bronze trash mob when attempting to duo with my Shammy at 92 a few months ago! (a yellow con - Wild Braxi - they hit hard lol). Though I did not pop a merc, thinking that my well AA'd duo could tank and heal w/out mercs as they had always done with trash mobs in VOA tier one and two zones.

He lasted about 1 minute while burning his mitigation disc, and my then 92 Shammy definitely did not have the burst of direct heals to compensate for the damage this Braxi (trash mob) did to my under prepared SK.

I used everything in my Shammy's healing toolbox...Apathy-pre slow, Growth line, Gotikans Recourse, Freezing Gift (for the twinheal on next direct heal spell), Counterbias, Reckless Direct Heal, Gotikans Direct Heal, got Union of Spirits AA off in desperation ...But he was flattened. Then I went back at 95 without many of the new ranks of AA and popped one merc which made it a very hard fight but the shammy could hardly add to dps as he still had to heal a lot. Almost died numerous times during the fight.

Then added a second healer merc and I finally killed the trash mob in reasonable time but it was harder survival wise than it should be imo.

I Tryed Googles (sp the named rat) in COB but it slapped my SK upside the head then he FD'd after my Shammy gated out lol.

So off to re aug and grind a few crucial AA's left in the hope that I can finally take on a tier 4 named at 95 in VOA - the level the expansion is made for. Smiley: bah

This is what I meant re unprepared tanks in the "Interesting Phenomenon" thread by Sippin. I've just been there re my recent experiences..

My SK was unprepared and I am informed of modern EQ like many here on these forums and never left the game to return, so I could imagine a true returnee.

Fun times though and the grind continues....

May 20th 2014 Edit/Update: For the benefit of any in the same boat as I was, I upgraded my 95 SK's gear from the VOA T2 ("Formal" visible gear) that it had before, to the ROF t1 ("Boreal" visible gear) and the SK can now tank COB trash comfortably with my Shammy as main healer w/o a healer merc.

I have been mostly playing CIV 5 with the occasional day in eq. This past weekend I was reading John Ringo's UNDER A GRAVEYARD SKY, and logged onto eq long enough to burn a lod on the druids in garden. That is when I wasn't working.

After a few months off, I came back and played my 60 Beastlord. Nothing eventful, just some questing and grinding.

I am tired of reading about and watching TV about the coming zombie apocalypse...
If it doesn't happen soon, I am going to have to go shoot up some expiring ammo.

I've been "slumming" of late, gearing up a slew of very low alts for a friend and my nephew. I also can't believe that it was also the first time I've spent any real time in Karnor's Castle and Mistmoore Castle. Now that I know them better, they will be fun zones to visit when the chars in question level to the zone!!

Trying for a couple of drops, but when they say an item in EQ is rare, I think they mean you'll get it when you're ready to retire after a "career" in the particular zone.

What's CIV? I'm terrible with acronyms / abbreviations for games. If it's about zombies, maybe I should try it out. Loved the old Monster Bash type games.

EDIT: Also had seen trending on Facebook page, that US Pentagon has a plan in place for upcoming zombie apocalypse!

EDIT 2: Didn't do anything in game that I remember. LGuk is awesome. Can't beleive you missed it, even going back there high level just to explore it. My first long exp there was first Fableds year. I missed it during the hey day, 'cause I was teens and low 20s most of 2000-2003, 'cause I only would get spurts to play. 1 job, 1 self-employed part-time job, a band, I was busy most of the time.

My EQ computer rig is old... I have CIV 2 loaded on it and I do play it every so often. Fun game... I recently tried (the also ancient) CIV 3 and the learning curve is steep enough to make it an interesting challenge. I'll be ready for CIV 5 in about 20 years at this rate.

I finaly finished my thesis and it got approved by the school, so I decided to relax and mess around with my shaman. I turned in like 2000 bone chips to make her allied with the lizard people so I could do the cudgel line, since it's the last iksar epic I have to complete.

And holy crap this is the quest that has tested my patience the most. I spent like 8 hours running around the sewers of East Cabilis trying to get an iksar outcast to spawn, I've done all of the 1.0 epics and iksar weapons save for this one, and I've never had to farm this much to get something to spawn, and the worst part is that this is the start of the quest chain!

I don't know if it's bugged or something, but if it was like this back in the day for young iksar shamans, I salute them.

Yes, it was Smiley: cool
I miss those old days, even camping stuff and building faction days and weeks.
Years ago I worked for Cabilis faction with my DE SK, killing these pure humans standing in ruins in LOIO. Can't remember anymore why this faction was needed...

Honestly, Civ 3 is probably the weakest of the bunch. 1 was the classic, with 2 being basically the same with some added stuff. 3 introduced a ton of new stuff, but also created some "odd" imbalances to the game, making warfare far more strange and difficult than it needed to be (armies and SOD -stacks of doom!). 4 introduced cultural boundaries (big improvement!), which made dealing with city flipping and unrest still a bit strange, but at least understandable and controllable. It still retained some of the problems that 3 had with civilization sizes and corruption, but tamped them down quite a bit. Also introduced religion and created much more variation in civ types.

Civ 4 was kinda the best in the series IMO, so if you're upgrading from 2, I'd honestly skip 3. Civ 5 is just "different". It's equally good as 4 IMO, but is also a very very different game than the original 2. I will play both 4 and 5 nowadays, but wouldn't bother with any of the older ones. Just my personal opinion on the series though, YYMV.
